yes, bundled apps in use for mail and IM/VOIP. Apart from that, nothing much in use: omWeather, homeIP and cpu/battery applet.
imho, it has to do with the wifi, because at home (next to the access point) it is better than at work, where the link is bad and often drops. But that is real-life for me.
as an N810 owner I have to correct the nonsense written above:
1) it will stay standby for a few days at most
2) standby here means offline mode: no wifi, bluetooth, gps... nada
3) if you want to stay connected with the net (IM presence, mail moniroring), battery life is 6-7 hours max. Just looking at it eats battery.
But panels do not need sunlight, they already give some power when some light shines on them. And unless you live in the dark the whole day, it means that a small current is available the whole day. When off, it charges a bit, when on it reduces battery load a bit. I wouldn't be surprised that over the whole day it could give you enough extra time to make a difference.
I'm using the same theory as the car manufacturers that plan to put solar cells in the roof of cars to feed the electronics a bit. Not much, but enough to reduce fuel consumption another bit
Maybe I should get my calculator out before continuing?
yes, it did on my N810 too... but the current one now actually installs...
spoiler: no need to try, it is dog slow, buggy dragging and typing,... not worth the time (I removed it again)
I only recently started a rant on the SlimDevices forums regarding the fact that they wrote their complete media streaming code in Perl. Sure it's very portable, but because it sucks up 150MB and more when run, it also make is *less* portable as you require heaps of memory to run it, so embedded devices are out.
Somebody ought to hang the people who try to write whole applications in it. Each tool has its uses.
VMWare bloats your memory, even if you're not using it. It loads several services that just sit there.
Virtualbox is just short of being an install-less tool. Shut it down and it stops using any computer resource (except some HDD space of course). And yes, I also thing it runs faster than VMW (no need for fancy graphics and such)
Why not use Gizmo, it does voice and maybe soon video too (under linux - the windows version already does), and they have good working gateways to jabber and MSN. What more do you need?
Ehm.... I remember reading this story about a year ago (maybe more or less), does anybody have an exact date on when this happened or is this just another urban legend that keeps coming round?
I now have my Dell Latitude D820 for about a year and I absolutely love it.
It has a 15.4" widescreen at 1920x1200 non-glossy. Everybody who sees the screen is amazed by the detail and resolution.
I can easily get two source files (80 columns) next to each other and still have room for an IRC client and some shell windows.
And Ubuntu loves it too (just no good binary driver from NVidia to be found - the bastards)
You can still get them with XP so that you at least have something speedy for the occasional drop into windows;)
1) The extension was done on Monday, so it can't be april fools. Slashdot is just almost two days behind in reporting it...
2) The real reason the extension was done was because many organizations complained about the lower quality and less interest from students (info taken from the mentor mailinglist)
And about (2) I can just give this hint: If you're a student outside America, why would you work two months for just 4500 dollar? That is certainly not enough if you convert it to another currency. Getting a real job just pays better....
I know some people who live there and I have been there several times myself, and one thing you can be certain of is that the Swiss government does everything it can to screw people. And if it weren't for the tourists whose money they need, they would close their borders completely.
It is on my list of nations where I never want to live (right below the US if you're interested).
true... lowering the clock helps. Still, I have seen enough problematic uses due to interference. There's a difference between using I2C or SPI on a PCB or using wires throughout a case. They simply miss signal integrity guarantee.
So you'll need a usb port for each item that you want to monitor (PSU, case, cooling,...). Apart from usb port shortage, this also means more wires inside the case will be restricting the airflow.
In Belgium, large events like Rock Werchter have your name on the ticket and you only get in with your own ticket. A specific service (free of cost afaik) was set up for trading/selling in the genuine cases of people being unable to go or change date.

No, the solar cell 'assisted' the battery. So without the solar cell the battery would have been dead much faster.
Not to charge the laptop completely, no.

I'm still waiting for the first netbook or laptop to feature solar cells in the lid, instead of the stupid logo they put there now.
Come on, it can't be that hard? And don't tell me I'm the first to think of this?

At least it is a more open platform, has a very nice screen to display content and is quite cheap if you go for the N800...
So this is news? Rockbox has been offering spoken menus and player content for many years.
Also on ipods (a little less than two years).
I wouldn't be surprised if they would patent it anyway....

But very important (and what the others failed to mention): SYSTEM has no access to the network (including mapped drives,...)
Why? It was 100% build by _me_
Eh? My 486DX2-80 used to manage with just a tiny heatsink....
Well, if that is your logic of thinking, I can tell you that the US must certainly have deserved 9/11.
Now, does this make you feel better? Now go and leave this planet please...

Too bad they didn't include power and noise measurements for that Samsung drive
Isn't this what http://www.ohloh.net/ does (and much more)?

or SPI as a matter of fact....
The only problem is that I2C and SPI are not ideal on longer lengths, and certainly not for inter-component (MBPSU) communication.
So you'll need a usb port for each item that you want to monitor (PSU, case, cooling,...).
Apart from usb port shortage, this also means more wires inside the case will be restricting the airflow.
