even without having an entire media empire (Rupert Murdoch) spewing favorable propaganda 24/7 for free?
You mean ABC/NBC/CBS/CNN/MSNBC and all the others weren't spewing favorable propaganda for Obama 24/7? From what I could tell Shepard Smith of Fox News seemed genuinely delighted when they called the election for Obama, so I can't figure out which media empire was allegedly backing Romney...
At some point you just have to account for the laws of physics.
Pushing a vehicle at 80MPH down the highway is going to be hard to do and get 54.5 MPG..
I can see a few responses to this:
1. Conspiracy Theorist -- The government knows this and is just using CAFE as a way to lower freeway speeds to 50 MPH. 2. Pie-in-the-sky Optimist -- Engineers will develop a clever solution to the wind resistance problem. Perhaps something akin to noise cancelling headphones, but a 'wind cancellation' solution. 3. Pragmatist -- These standards will be seen as unrealistic and subsequently revised downward by a future administration.
Guys, really? Fahrenheit? In a science article? On an international website?
I don't even advocate the usage of Celcius in this case, so why not use 33 degrees Kelvin? This at least give us _some_ idea of how close to absolute zero we are. Otherwise, why not use 'near absolute zero' and leave out the numbers completely?

degrees Kelvin you say? In a comment to a science article?
We should make it so Congress only gets paid when they actually accomplish something, make them work on commission./pipedream
I think you're on the right track here, but I would propose something like this:
If Congress passes a budget and actually pays down the national debt, they get their salary plus a bonus. If Congress passes a balanced budget, they are paid their full salary. If Congress passes a budget with a deficit, they lose a % of their salary. If Congress fails to pass a budget, they are all ineligible for re-election.
Congress may want to raise taxes to make sure they get their bonus, but they would then run the risk of not being re-elected.
If I had added the word "usually" would that have been sufficient? Yes, there are exceptions, but cars are not designed to cause accidents, guns are not designed to auto-discharge and IDEs are not designed to create bugs.
I accept your points as valid. Nevertheless, I take exception to sensationalist reporting that blames the vehicle rather than the driver when the driver is clearly at fault.
i defy anyone to "mow down" anything with a semiautomatic rifle. get a grip
You misunderstood. According to the summary, the weapon is capable of mowing down pretty much anything all by itself. This is similar to news reporting of SUVs causing horrible accidents.
The Apollo 1 spacecraft had an inward-opening hatch. If it had opened outward and had explosive bolts like Mercury / Gemini the fire would likely not have been fatal.
..."Part of Dragon Capsule Returns Safely To Earth." Unfortunately, the back half is jettisoned and burns up. It's a wonderful achievement but it isn't a spaceship. The shuttles were spaceships. Earth doesn't have any at present (unless you count the US Air Force's little robot one).
By this logic, Apollo wasn't a spaceship since the "back half" (a.k.a. Service Module or SM) was jettisoned and burned up prior to re-entry.
It's a concept at this point. It must be noted, however, that all of the hardware was tested this morning (Falcon XX uses three Falcon9 first stages, plus one Falcon 9 second stage).
I believe you're referring to Falcon Heavy. Falcon XX is a different beast
we've lost space missions because of metric/archaic screwups
I can only think of one probe that was lost due to this. Please cite the additional mission or missions that were lost.
The mission that was lost was not due to an incorrect conversion, but rather due to a miscommunication about which units were being used. Had this error been detected, the conversion would have been trivial.
I'm not sure I'd go so far as to call Mitchell an "American Hero" (TM).
Yes, he walked on the moon and that puts him in very rare company. However, I think he was a bit of a loon. I think NASA may still be bothered by the whole unauthorized ESP experiments that took place on the return trip. That kind of thing is definitely "not in line with NASA expectations"
HP's former CEO made some rather unclear and confusing statements and was subsequently fired. At this point, it is not clear what HP will do with the laptop / desktop business, but everything I've read indicates that they'll remain in hardware (servers, storage, printers, etc.)

No, if any Republican said/did/thought something at any time, the same belief/action/thought must apply to all Republicans in perpetuity.
It's a /. thing - like hot grits or first posts, but a lot more annoying.

Cars don't cause accidents. Guns don't kill people. IDEs don't write bugs.
I believe his middle name is Bruce.
The Apollo 1 spacecraft had an inward-opening hatch. If it had opened outward and had explosive bolts like Mercury / Gemini the fire would likely not have been fatal.
Correct. Non-reusable "capsules" are not spaceships.
Let me see if I've got this straight. Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Vostok, Voshkod and Soyuz are all not spaceships?

We're back, baby!
No offense, but we're not even back to 1969.

Sorry, ASAP is an FLA, but FLA is a TLA.
I'm at a high risk for both lemonoma and dyslexia.
Google fecal transplant. It's a real thing.
And I thought Google Wave was a bad idea. I don't care how many invites I get, I'm not trying Google Fecal Transplant.
I can't find the link right now but when room and board is considered I believe the average cost of a 4-year college or university is $13 per year.
13 bucks? Dang...I overpaid.
"...they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing. And if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order."
Great quote - great show.
If I had points I'd mod this one up. That's very clever!
