Market two versions of your product: one is your QNX-based model for folks who want easy 'net access. Second version is an "hackable" model. Make it a bit more expensive, perhaps, but let the hackers be hackers and sell them the machine!. Then let them hack all they want and incorporate the best changes in the next generation.

I agree. This model should be X based. As someone mentioned before, the market for a cheap, cool-looking remote X terminal is virtually untapped, and I think NetPliance could make a going at this. I'd buy one at its retail price, as long as it was an open system I could configure the way I want it.

It's one of those sci-fi shows you don't really like at first, but later you get right into the characters. Except for all the Sheradan / Delene love crap. They overdo that WAY too much for my tastes.

Someone should write a macro virus that saves the source code in a .txt file on everyones system :) That'd be cool.

Who can use that much bandwidth for more than a few seconds at a time normally!", i was like, this guy has obviously never downloaded large ISO's on a constant basis. If there ws just one simple library that did the CSS decoding, porting it would require minimal effort (especially considering everyone already knows how it can be done with DeCSS) and I'm sure the company would do that.

I disagree. When most people complain about open-sourcing DVD players, the argument they use is "to make it faster" or "better" or "run smoother" or "look better". None of these things have anything at all to do with the CSS encryption. Theres a simple algorithem, and thats that./p

Did you read the article at all? They are going to "make as much of the program as open as possible". Now, as they go on about, this won't include the CSS decoding, which is understandable. I don't necessarily agree with the MPAA, but you hsould at least get your facts straight before ranting about something.

If Apple released a QuickTime viewer under any license/method, it would drastically improve their market share. Consider the following: we all know the problems Real has beeen having lately (a-la-privacy), and the MSFT player ONLY runs on Windows. With a *NIX port QuickTime would perhaps re-gain some of its market--share lost to the Windows Media PLayer platform.

While i live in Canada, I fid it hard, nay possible to believe that none of the larger US banks offer free online bill payment. It would only make sense for them to do so, fo rthe simple reason that it helps the customer AND cuts their costs at the same time.
