    The overclocking community and the Linux/*BSD community are totaly seperate types of Geeks. Because overclockers are usually totally into gaming, and most games are only available on Windows, they are usually quite Windows-centric, I find. Also, the most state-of-the-art gaming hardware is usually only available to Windows users. Most overclocking sites only make a big deal about Windows driver releases, Windows, games, etc.

    Obviously you didn't read the article at all, or this would be painfully obvious, even if you didn't know it beforehand. Frozen CO2 is dry ice, and is commonly available. It is not dangerous when handled properly, and has many common application, such as chemistry experiments, and making ice cream.

    The user does not have to download any files to see the advertisements. What this thing does is this: Say it hears a search for "blink 182 mp3", it returns something like "VISIT WWW.HOTXXX.COM FOR FREE PORN - blink_182.mp3" The file does not really exist, but it will show up in the user's search results nonetheless.

    The only files that you could transmit a macro or virus in would be like *.doc, *.exe, etc. And what would be the difference between downloading one of these from ANY GnuTella user or this service?

    Besides, If you're downloading anything that has a filename like "MAKE MONEY FAST - WWW.SPAM.COM.exe", you deserve to be infected. In fact, you deserve to be shot.

    Yeah really. Someone should Mod this up, and maybe some marketing braindead's will see it. No one I know EVER puts in their real information, real email, or anything, unless they absolutely have to. And I'm not just talking about us l33t hackers, I'm talking about joe average Internet user. In schools around where I live, they actually teach you not to ever give your real information (including email) unless its someone you absolutely trust.

    So what I would liek to know is, what good is all this tracking, when your'e tracking fake people? It's just a huge waste of time. Not that I reallly care, I added all banner ads to my hosts file being redirected to 127.0.0.1 a LONG time ago

    Mandrake 7.1 is a totally different product than RedHat 6.2 . i don't know what rock youv'e been sleeping under, but Mandrake has been much more than a rehashed RedHat for quite some time. Mandrake 7.1 has a totally different selection of packages, totally different installer, totally different configuration system, and many other differences.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this just a rehash of ZipSlack? ZipSlack has been around for a LONG time, and fits on a 100MB disk. Sure, if you want to use an LS-120 drive instead, you might need to mess with some configuration, but it's still basically the same deal. No real news here at all.

    I agree! I'm on a fast connection, and I often open links in article son /. before reading the post... I ended up having the PDF downloaded (and thus wasting the dollar) before I realized that I was supposed to pay for it! I think this si a good scheme, I didn't want to help it fail!

    Yeah, I totally agree. The KOffice suite is supposed to be totally emeddable (a la OLE), so you can put a Spreadsheet inside your text document, etc. To me, KOffice looks far superior to Gnome Office, at least in this respect.

    I know several people who ahve DVD RAM's already.. they are not like CD-RW's, they are more like an optical disk... that is, the media itself is enclosed in a protective plasic case while it is being read / written. There is no way I can see playing this in a normal player, shot of removing the housing.. which would either make it impossible to write to ever again or make it totally useless.

    There already is a web interface to Linuxconf, you just have to enable it in your networking config under misc - Linuxconf Network Access. Then connect to port 98 (with an authorized machine of course) with your web browser and voila! -- Linuxconf in HTML

    I have a very good solution to this, which is catching on nicely all over the web: download it. Many software titles and games are downloadable nowadays... they reside on secure sites, and you pay for them with your CC, then download them and burn them yourself. I'd say this is the BEST way to cut down on packaging.

    The ADFU server on slashdot uses an IP, not a domain, so even if you wanted you block it (which i don't, those ads are cool :)) you couldn't do it in your hosts file.

    Edit your hosts file! Put in ALL the ad companies (*.doubleclick.net, *.flycast.net, etc), then you wont have to downlaod the banners, wont get the cookies, etc. I did this a LONG time ago.

    1%??? Not quite.. Up here in Canada we had DSL in the mainstream market WAY before the US.. I've had my connecttion for 3 years now, and thats not even in a big city (100,000 people here). Canada is one of the Global leaders in telecomminications, didnt you know that?
