Yes, I told everyone I know not to buy products from a company that promises to open a standard, doesn't do it, and then advertises heavily that you can use it to communicate between all of the different devices from that company. I'm specifically talking about FaceTime here, not iMessage. Major dick-move. I don't think they even promised to open the protocol for iMessage.
Of course it can happen, it's just less likely to have problems than software with only a few sets of eyes on it. In addition, I had patches installed on my linux machines this morning, before I was even aware the problem existed. How's that for turnaround.
I'm a little surprised myself. I think people object to the use of the word fascist, but the blocking of reporters has clearly gone beyond corporatist.
Between this, warrantless wiretapping, reporters blocked from the teardown of the OWS protest, it seems that the US has reached the tipping point on its way to becoming a fascist.corporatist state. I'm quite surprised that there hasn't been anywhere close to as much outrage as I would have suspected.
My guess that they didn't make it nogoogle so that Apple and the other mappers can respect it if they wish. Personally, I think broadcasting your SSID is opting in and this is not required.
Not really unfeasible... reflashing an Android phone really just requires selecting an image from an application and rebooting. It shouldn't be required, but it's a pretty trivial problem to resolve.
... because since Google bought them I would hope that they will consider these 'halo' phones for Android. I'm not sure about the quality of this one as it's pretty soon after the purchase, but I'm hoping they pump up the quality.
You can fix some of this stuff with obscure shell extensions, but they're slow coming, and I'm still waiting for a way to get frikkin' Thunderbird mail notifications to stay persistent. In my mind, that sort of thing is a basic requirement. (And it's still too slow, but it's waaay faster than Unity on my hardware).
For extra 'dick-move' points, they actually built it on top of XMPP.

Proprietary solutions are not helping anybody but the people who create them, be it Apple or RIM.
People do almost everything more than they think.
... and Apple doesn't yet have a monopoly.
Seriously?

Still no Google Voice here in Canada either.
It would also be quite ironic given the nature of the platform.

I'm really hoping their extortion over Android helps change that. I probably have my hopes up.
Actually, it's fairly trivial to change your MAC address on many routers.
Remember B&N when you buy Christmas presents this year.
I'm almost at the point of just sending them money for this move. I consider what Microsoft has been doing a criminal act.
I still have a Radio Shack EC-4004 programmable calculator floating around that uses one of these. Fun little calculator for its time.

They could boost sales even more by adding "Plenty of lawyers were harmed to make this material".

Sometimes dolphins can be real assholes.
I think the Samsung Galaxy phones are about as simple.
That was probably a Sony device and actually supplemented the battery's power by consuming your life-force.

I pointed this out above and was down-modded.
