  1. Lulu.com on Is Self Publishing Worth the Price? · · Score: 4, Informative

I'm not sure why more people haven't head of http://www.lulu.com/
It's a great service and I've used it already to publish a small book to give to family members.

Lulu Enterprises is the latest venture of Red Hat, co-founder and open source enthusiast Bob Young. Lulu.com allows anyone to publish and sell digital files--including books, artwork, and photographs--over the Internet.

Publishing work on Lulu.com is free, and content creators are asked to establish a royalty fee for each item they upload.

Lulu's revenue model is based on receiving a small percentage of each content purchase, as well as on fees for a line of planned additional services, such as editing and formatting.

  5. Starband experiance on Is Starband's Satellite Internet Service Palatable? · · Score: 5, Informative

I installed Starband for a company on long island. The service isnt horrible, but it does have some problems.

Large downloads usually max out at 60kb/s with uploads being in the 5-10kb/s range. Web browsing feels much slower, with waits of a couple seconds before the page even starts to load.

The USB modem is huge, around the size of a flatbed scanner. (this was a year ago, maybe it's smaller now)

Weather also plays a factor.. clouds hurt and rain basically kills the connection.

  6. Re:Burning Speed on Worthwhile CD-R Media? · · Score: 2, Interesting

this would only happen on older burners.. the new burners can burn psx at 16x and they work great.

  7. Girls on Ask An Ordinary Teenage Slashdot User · · Score: 5

At the age when most teens seem to be crazy over the opposite sex and dating, how is your situation with girls? Assuming you dont have a girlfriend, do you feel better off without one taking away your free time, or is it something you wish for?

  8. Favorite Race? on Try Out Tux Racer This Weekend · · Score: 1

I've been playing for the last few days since it game out and I have to say that my favorite practice race is "Who Says Penguins Can't Fly?"
Nothing beats the insane speed and air you can get in this course. My current record is 1:36 with 48 Herring.
    Anyone better?

You can get cigaretta lighter adapters from any travel store, that work with anything that has a plug. Extremely useful for a laptop, altho I'm not sure why you'd want a non portable videogame system and a tv in your car.

  11. Re:is anime that popular here? on ReBoot Comes To DVD (3rd Season) · · Score: 2

Anime has a huge following, here and everywhere... find out why, watch some!
If I may, I'll point you to CmdrTaco's post in Ask Slashdot, Essential Anime
I'd say the fact that it has over 1000 comments attached would prove that the anime enthusiasts are in force :)
