Does the person posting this really think that RIM is happy to hand over data to foreign governments?
They make their money off of business users who will not be happy about this change.
They simply have no choice when governments say give us access or we will ban you.
I don't know hope anybody could think that it is in RIM's business interests to make its valuable business customers' data available to foreign governments.
What really pisses me off is that google already had this feature. Personalized search results used to let you relegate some websites to the bottom and mark some results and sites as being more important. It was incredibly useful when filtering out garbage spam sites. Google also said were would be able to share these in some way to improve search results.
Then for no reason they removed that feature and replaced it with the ability to put a gold star on some results. Of course the benefit of the feature was in relegating spam up the bottom of the page and you could no longer do that.
When they removed they feature I stopped using the feature entirely.
Now google is backtracking by introducing this extension.
What was entre point of removing the original feature which worked on all browsers?
From the article -- "Tuitions now are twice what they were 25 years ago".
Hmm, I started at the University of Texas almost 25 years ago. Tuition has gone up by a factor of *10* since then.
(Seriously -- it was about $400 per semester back then, and now it's over $4000/semester now.)
Back then, I put myself through college. No loans. Not sure that kids could do that now...
They are likely referring to inflation adjusted dollars, not absolute amounts, because you can't actually compare a dollar value from 25 years ago to a dollar value today.
Those numbers just aren't equivalent.
To compare them you have to include inflation.
I still use Opera + IE6. Why IE6? Stability. These damn browsers never give up the memory they've taken, although chrome does a better job because it actually runs each tab in a seperate process.
With IE6 I open a window, browse youtube, close site, and the memory is returned.
I use Opera with javascript turned off, a low overhead browser that will save all my pages if a crash occurs.
The new yahoo mail looks like outlook, but it's more annoying since it's isn't as useful (no newsgroups). I much prefer gmail, the interface is fluid, intuitive and comfortable, and it's oh so pretty!
I don't think copying the look of e-mail software should be the next step for webmail.
Why not not give permission to let google scan their copyrighted works. Wait until they show up on google scholar, and THEN sue google. Ka Ching. Silly copyright holders.
You forget that everybody has their bias. For all you know this study was influenced by the fact that these guys wanted to make headlines. After all, would a conclusion of "We discovered nothing happens" grab anybody's attention? Probably not, or at least, not as much.
It seems in this day and age of instant information and 24/7 news, people have all but forgotten the oh so important skill of critical thinking.
Damn you Intel and AMD, always teasing me with the absolute most bleeding edge hardware that I CAN'T AFFORD. Come on, let's work on bringing down prices as well as bringing up performance.
Oh, well it's very simple. Journalists, and I'm talking journalists, (if you're going to call crap like blogs journalism then you've already ruined your argument) are supposed to write an objective piece, do research, obtain evidence of story etc. Blogs are just opinions, presenting them as news, which slashdot keeps trying to do only hurts the credibility of slashdot. It seems slashdot is just posting some mindless drivel that is meant to hurt MS, but ends up hurting slashdot the most.
The worst thing in the world may be that many bloggers call themselves journalists, which is ridiculous. Perhaps, they do fit the definition in some ways, but they don't fit the role at all.
When a respected media outlet does something stupid, it is shown the error of it's ways, and it is generally forced by public opinion to correct itself. Bloggers just keep posting their opinion. Many don't bother to research. Many aren't journalists.
Would somebody please write a rubric for slashdot, to help it realize that posting blog crap that is biased and generally full of inaccuracies and problems in testing isn't news?
Obviously, nothing out there is perfect...not even...LINUX! Yes, I said it, linux isn't perfect you wannabe nerds, but we shouldn't JUST be using web browsers. That's retarded. Preferable, some AV software and something like webroot's spysweeper running in the background would be perfect, I've got both of those, and it keeps me safe.
I remember reading a story about this, people were given the choice of going through a see through screening machine, or going through more intensive screening procedures, and they were allowed to see the images of themselves.
Still, this is far too intrusive, how long before there are no other screening procedures, and only this machines that see through clothing?
Although, I guess all the terrorists are going to start getting fatter, thereby heightening their chances of diabetes, early death, etc., not to mention reducing their ability to go through those training camps. As well, this'll make them buy 2 seats next time they feel like crashing a plane. So, in a way, maybe this will be a good and effective tool after all.
This has been available in Canada through the partnership of rogers and national music network, muchmusic, for over a year now. This is old technology.
Yeah, this is definitely HP's style. After the uproar that they had decided not to offer a windows mobile 2003se upgrade for their PDAs (even though they had already developed the upgrade and had shown it at a trade show, and I used this info when I decided on my purchase of a 2210) so that they could make way for their new lineup of PDAs using 2003se. The massive uproar in the forum was very well controlled, nonetheless, it was moderated, and eventually, the entire thread regarding the subject was closed, and the topic was forbidden for discussion, and people were stopped from even viewing the thread anymore. HP's got a bad habit. Try not to take anything they publish on faith, be critical.
I can't wait to have a computer so small that I have to use a pin to press the power button!
Seriously though, I'm all for this, but only in some cases. Do we need to make stuff so much smaller? It makes it more inaccessible to most self-builders. I would like this for an HTPC though, because I want enough power to convert media, but I also want to make sure it doesn't look like I stuck a small PC in my room, rather it should look like my VCR grew up a tad.
We have NOW seen what MS will do once it believes it web browsers, it will do nothing. It will ignore our requests for improvements, it will stop developing, it will ignore it's users. Since it started doing that, what have we seen? Improvements! Of course, not from MS that decided to ignore us, and ignore it's feature request tools. Now that MS has realized that people aren't going to stand for it, they are trying to come back, my only hope is that people don't flock to IE7, because we've already seen what they will do if we go back to them! Boycott IE7 until MS makes a serious promise to it's user base not to let this kind of thing happen again.
In the meantime, sit back and practice mouse gestures with Opera...oh damnit, right click up, down! not down, up, now I just closed that window...oh well.
Kevin Rose? He isn't an original, he's one of the people that came in as TSS went to shit.
I'd rather see yoshi, and martin sargent!!
Martin was actually funny, and entertaining to watch, and Yoshi's creativeness was always great (the nintendo pc is my favourite). I used to love TSS, with the new set though, came the beginning of the end.
Anyways, bring back the originals.
Good one, at the same time, providing a generally useless feature, WHILE discouraging multiple gmail accounts by transforming yourself in to a portal where people don't want to change accounts.
You only feel it's excessive because you have this disgusting sense of entitlement, like, oh there is a movie online for free, great, I should therefore be allowed to watch it. And while I can understand that position, because if it's available, you WILL take it, and you will feel like you have the right to BECAUSE you were freely allowed to do so. BUT, if you worked for months on some software, or movie, and then had it ruined and spoiled within a week or even 2 weeks (spoiled launch of oasis album which was released early) then I think you would feel differently. If you worked for months on some project, something that you felt would get you a raise and a nice promotion, and at the last moment, somebody stole it, ripped it off after seeing it, and took YOUR raise and YOUR promotion, how would you feel? Angry? But then, you're doing the same thing to others with no regard for how they feel. How about less hypocrisy?

Geez, how about reading the article first?
Who writes this stuff? This is very very old news. MSI began this stuff http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030522/

I'm guessing the description which was overloaded lead you to click the wrong link. The pertinent article is located in the last link, and it is fairly evident which link proves the point of the description. Let the piracy of MAC OS X officially...BEGIN!!! Oh, and let all emulation projects such as pearpc and qemu cease to exist...sadly.

Might be kind of tough for the flight attendant to serve the pilots their meals on long distance flights by traversing the exterior of the plane.
