Not going to discuss pros/cons of these systems, but at least the do help. Two days ago I got one of those PayPal phishing emails in my hotmail account and hotmail had a big banner on top saying the sender's ID couldn't be verified. This could be a great help to users silly enough to fall for these attacks (assuming they actually pay attention to the warnings).
Try multi-BILLION dollar industry. That said, I don't see porn playing as large a role in this battle as VHS vs. Beta. Back then all porn (basically) was purchased in such a way. Today I'd guess MUCH more is downloaded than purchased from a store, so the media isn't that important. I wouldn't be too suprised if soon you can only purhcase it on the internet. No need to spend the money producing physical media when people are so willing to pay to just download it.
No kidding! Can you imagine what would happen if you automated builds to make sure the pieces fit together? You think things are bad now, wait till you automatically know if there is a problem!!! The book even talks about automated testing. Are they bloody crazy!!!! Can you imagine the problems caused by automatically finding errors/issues in code without spending hundreds of man-hours manually going through every test for every build????? I hope this never comes to pass!!!!
Can I now be modded "Interesting" for saying absolutly retarded shit to? (No disrespect meant to the mentally handicapped by grouping them with parent);-)
Dying? I thought they were already dead! Didn't those thin "internet appliance" stations already kill the PC?
Its just marketing crap! As the PC market gets saturated, the marketers will all try to convince you PC's are dead and you should give them your money for some worthless replacement;-)
Because Intel/AMD/x86 are not anywhere nearly as entrenched there as they are here, as very few people (percentage-wise) in China *have* computers yet. This is a (nearly) level playing field for other architectures in China.
It doesn't really matter what processor your neighbor has, its what processor does most the software support that matters.
Even more fun, all search engines store data from the sites they crawl. Better start suing all major search engines.
Oh but wait, I want the search engines to list my site to drive visitors to my site. So actually I'll sue you if you don't store my content as that would be unfair and give my competitors an advantage.
Damnit no, what if I'm a bloody idiot and put something on my site I don't want copies of and I'm to retarded to not make it public?
OK, so please store my content to drive customers to me, but as an absolute moron if I happen to do something stupid I reserve the right to blame you for it and sue your ass. I know it wasn't my fault!!
why is anyone happy the inkjet technology has a new lease on life
I haven't shopped for a printer in a while (I have laserjet not inkjet), but last I saw anything approaching "photo" quality in the laserjet market was many 1,000s of dollars while "photo" quality inkjets can even be found sub-100 range.
I cannot even remember the last time I had an inkjet (why print photos when there are such cooler ways to display them if you want to), but at least the last I saw inkjets certainly still have thier uses.
The Intel compiler should check for features, not chip brand. Eg, if SSE2 is reported as available, then use it, else use the generic code path.
Yeah, I COMPLETELY agree with that. However, not knowing anything about how it actually works I'll reserve judgement on what it is (evil, illegal, stupid, lazy, just fine) until more evidence is shown. In my mind if it is something like:
If(Chip is Intel)
{ Run SSE2 code; }
else
{ Run generic code; }
Then it may be at worst stupid or lazy, but at least not evil or illegal. However, if its more like:
If(Chip has SSE2 && Is Not AMD)
{ Run SSE2 code; }
else
{ Run generic code; }
First off, I tend to buy AMD whenever possible as like to support the little guy and I think AMD is far better in many ways.
That said, I don't really see the issue here. Its an Intel compiler, so it knows how to optimize for Intel chips. I would have been AMAZED if they took the time to also optimize for thier main competitors chips. Intel and other chips don't all implement the exact same things in the exact same ways so the optimizations for Intel chips may fail for other chips. As long as the compiler gives optimized output for Intel chips and all other chips get "generic" output, I'd say that is fine. Now if they can prove the complier specifically targets AMD chips in some way that would be a different matter. Howerver, just because an Intel compiler optimized for Intel chips and not others doesn't seem too suprising;-)
As someone I'm sure you would consider "liberal", let me say I agree with you. As long as they have the court order I don't care if they begin the tap in 5 seconds or 5 days. What I don't like is some of the current efforts to not require court orders (just needing "administrativer approval"). This to me just seems like common sense. If they have court approval, than I see no problem.
What does this mean? I tried to lookup "publicization" in a few dictionaries, but it doesn't seem to be a word. A little checking on your part was all that was necessary to not fall into the using nonsense words trap;-) Are you a Bush speech writer?;-)
No you are dead on in that it would be painful to download songs over your cell phone.
The issue though is that the current carriers want to force this on you (thus making them more money as they charge for those). However, I believe the whole point of this is so you DON'T have to download songs over the cell phone. The "ipod" phones would let you synch songs with your PC. If the current carriers would allow this, then the "ipod" phone could just be carried by the current carriers. However, since they want to force you to tranfser over the cellular network (and charge you for it) this seems a reasonable idea.
I used to work for a company that had a similar policy and we actually got a "do not shred" order. It is actually VERY easy to comply with these orders (at least the one we got). It doesn't say where anything has to be stored or anything. We just kept the normal policy in place, but the tapes of nightly backups were just kept. This cost a little bit more as we needed quite a bit more tapes than usual (since we had a rotation system and now we kept them all), but not a big deal.
Just because you need to keep the files/emails doesn't mean you need to keep them on your regular production machines. Leaving your systems runnign just like normal, but keeping archived tapes works just fine (again at least in our case).
What are you talking about? It sounds like we all agree then right. The GP said he bought the company to sue. Then you told him to RTA, presumably because you thought the GP was wrong. And now you say "but only now was able to buy the shares back and getting the right to sue". So what was your problem with the GP? Seems we all agree he bought the comany to sue, right?
Please turn off Fox News and actually travel the world and experience these things you think you "know" about. Again, I'm not saying Cuba is a paradise. Then again, I certainly wouldn't say the US is a paradise. We can fight all day over which is better/worse but have a feeling we'll never agree. I just ask we drop the embargo, thats it. While I also ask for more Americans to actually travel and understand the world instead of watching others talk about it and assuming they understand it.
You want me to list all the things Amnesty International has listed for abuses perpatrated by the US? Does the US need to be "liberated"?
Listen I'm not saying Cuba is some socialist paradise. I'm just saying its NOTHING like most Americans think of it. I say this as an American who grew up thinking just like you. I then actually left America and traveled the world. Actually experiencing the world instead of being told about it by biased politicians is MUCH different. Cuba and China are pretty similar, however Cuba is CERTAINLY the more open and free country! We don't have an embargo against China so why have one against Cuba? Oh yes, Cuba doesn't have NEAR as many people so how many Big Macs could we sell them anyway? Sadly that decides our stance on too many thing. In the case of Cuba the question is "Can we make enough money off them by droping the embargo to justify the political cost in Florida?". There is also the fact that droping the embargo, would look like the US is saying Castro won and of course we have to save face.
I agree it sure sounds trollish;-) However, I'd say an arguement COULD be made. If you start with the fact that BSD "is" unix while Linux is "like" unix, then consider OSX is based on BSD, you could make the above argument.
Now with the inclusion of mach and other features into OSX I'm not sure how valid the above is, but I'm guessing the arguement could be made. Really though it I guess is doesn't matter since Linux isn't a unix so it cannot be the better unix. As I said with the screwing with BSD that OSX did I'm not sure OSX is still a unix or not. Anyone care to chime in on this? In OSX still unix?
You bring up a fair point. Take a bit more time and visit the entire region. Vistit Cuba, Jamiaca, Dominican Republic, Haiti (even swing by Cayman if you'd like and I'll buy ya a beer). After visiting these other places ("free democracies") you can compare with Cuba. You don't need to ask anybody anything or "dig" into what is really happening (since you assume they won't be free to tell you). Just enjoy each place and when done honestly list in order which seem to be best places to live. Maybe that would give you a view of why I say they are just fine please leave them alone. I've traveled A LOT and I've seen some VERY bad places. Cuba is very nice and the people are very happy for the most part. That statement is of course based on comparison with other places. Is Cuba completely "free"? No, but its much more free than some "democrocies" I've seen. And of course Cuba isn't very wealthy, but I'd MUCH rather live in Cuba than say Detroit. I mean nothing bad by that, but Cuba just isn't that bad and Detroit isn't my cup of tea.
Out of those countries I listed right in the same area, my list for best places to live would be:
1)Cayman
2)Cuba
3)Jamaica
4)DR
5)Haiti

You realize this isn't MS right? These are just OSS developers porting tools to another platform. Isn't that a good thing?????
A lot of people think a middle initial adds a touch of class... In my mind, a middle initial adds a touch of crime
;-)
Says Alex P Keaton..
Yeah, but it had "Linux Beats Windows" in the title. The submission could have been blank with that title and Taco still would have posted it ;-)

Just mod down. Don't feed the trolls!!!
Then again, Intel might give them a good discount to keep them onboard. Apple could always re-marry IBM.
;-)
Or just use the oldest trick in the book ("We are looking at using some chips from AMD."), and then see what "discounts" you qualify for

Yeah, thats pretty funny with statements like "the educated minority of the Internet world" ;-)

I think he did. In fact I'm guessing he read all the way down to this:
Lucent sold Go Computer Inc. and its claims to Kaplan three months ago in April 2005
Did you?
