  1. Remote possibility? on Portable Server for On-the-Road Development? · · Score: 0

Is it even feseable to get a very strong, well configured laptop, and dual boot the machine? You could have a install of 1 operating system to do "office work" on. Then you could have the other operating system that you could developement work on. This way you could develope on the road, and still keep the same functionality as a regular Pc. I'm not a developer so I'm not sure if this configuration would benifit you or not. It's a thought.

Also I don't run Linux, I use Windows. I don't deny that Linux may be better than Windows. It's all in personal preference.

The link below is to Best Buy's website showing the bag. Since it is a backpack it has some security straps on it to keep it from falling off of you, or really straining your back and sholders. It's another bag to consider.

Alothough Microsoft does not restrict the end user to configure other search engines. But Google puts out it's Google Toolbar, that defaults to Google's search engine, and can not be changed that I know of. I don't see how that is any better, maybe Microsoft wants to have the ability to be set as default on the google toolbar. No I don't use Google Toolbar, and I also don't use Microsoft's Search Engine. That to me says that their technicially playing by the rules, it's just hard ball. Flamebait if you wish, but remember Microsoft atleast's gives you the option to configure different search engines.

  5. Dell Recommendation on Dell Ships Gaming Systems Sans Bloat · · Score: 0

I have just purchased a laptop from Dell (Inspiron 1300) and I like the feel of the laptop, expecially since it's my first laptop I've ever purchased. It took me about 3 hours to remove the bloatware off of the system. My friends mom also bought the same model because she liked the looks and feel of my laptop, also 3 hours for bloatware. I don't mind Dell because you can customize what you wantin a PC. For price to quality comparison I believe it's a good combination. Now if they leave the bloatware off of all of their systems it would probably be the best thing they could ever do.

There is a interesting point that you bring up. You state that: "You probably subscribe to the "your vote matters" fallacy." and also that "Only votes in mass matter.". On more than one occasion that is not necessarily a true statement. In a matter of fact in recent years the President of the United States, was elected into office not by the majority of the popular vote, but by congress it's self. And we all know where that has gotten us. And just for the record I do believe that our electoral voting system is fundamentally flawed and should be fixed.

So becasue I descided to build my own machine I am now at risk? So instead they would want me to buy a machine with hundreds of preloaded programs that I'll never use, that I'll never be able to upgrade? Why don't I like that idea. I'll admit that I do use Windows om my machine. But I do have a bootable version of Ubuntu and also a version of Mandriva Move 2.0. I also do have have openoffice on other computers for word processing also. I have not made the transition because I'm not that fimilar with linux, and because I do play some games that have not been successful in working with several types of emulators (Wine, Transgamer). But I do support the option to be able to purchase a prebuilt PC without Windows pre-loaded. My reason would be because I could recommend to have a PC package purchased without a operating system that I could load Windows on for a user that I wouldn't need to remove hundreds of applications that aren't needed. Most of my clients have older PC's that now are considering a upgrade, but it's hard to recommend to upgrade their PC and also a LCD monitor because they want one at a cheap price. Packages are always the best way to get a stronger PC, a LCD monitor, keyboard, mouse, and sometimes a printer. I've never been able to supply a user with all of that equipment for the same price or cheaper. It'd make my life easier, and cheaper for them. I rarely recommend a package unless the person has never owned a PC ever. I explain my reasons, and if they still want me to build one, I do it without question. I can't stand computers that are preloaded with crap. I'm still trying to clear out the applications out of my new laptop. God it's annoying.

There has also been documented cases where someone is considered partially deaf, and they can hear some extremely high pitched sounds, some past what I could hear. (Ice crackling?) 13. per child??? how about school!!! on Manufacturer Picked For $100 Laptop · · Score: 1

Why does it need to be per child? Most won't touch a computer after they leave school. Why not provide the laptops per student!!! This way when a student leaves school permantely they can give a laptop to another student. Most people there may not even have $100 for the laptop. That way it makes more sense. It saves money on books, easier to maintain the laptops, and they can re-use them year after year for the same class. Also it's easier to update the books too since you don't hafta deal with "oops I left it at home" and end up with different versions of the same book. Make the laptops for the school, not for each child.
