Basically, it boils down to: "Apple, in its quest for ultra, super-duper quietness, sets the fans to run much slower than the speed needed to make laptops usable on laps."
The Apple Boot Camp FAQ has also been updated; it has a list of drivers included in 1.1 and notes that several miscellaneous quirks have been fixed (most notably for me, Windows now remembers the correct time settings).
The thing that's always bugged me about Google is the generalized sense of smug superiority the company seems to emanate. "Look at our amusing job position titles!" "No, don't ask us about what we do with all the data we collect!" "Here, look at the quirky benefits we provide for our employees!" "Please, stop pointing out that while we brag about how much we love open source software, most of our exciting free applications are only available for Windows!"
Google is the kid in high school who is smart (but not exceptionally so), works *very* hard to maintain 4.0 GPA and also sucks up to his teachers all the time. However, he gets very secretive and passive-aggressive when you point out his imperfections.
If you happen to live in/work in/care about Nebraska, take a look at the CALMIT Map Server; it has detailed color maps of the entire state (make sure you select the 2003 Farm Service Agency image layer).
The CALMIT interface isn't all that great, but hey, nothing's perfect.
It's also rather hypocritical to be opposed to "GM foods" when genetic modification is PRECISELY what we've been doing to our foodstuffs (albeit in a much less dramatic fashion) for millenia.
He's offered a few hints as to what worthy causes his foundation will support. While he hasn't said what causes it *will* support, he has mentioned two things that he *DOES NOT* want his money to go towards (as mentioned at a talk he gave at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2003):
Universities that already have large endowments;
Medical research that already has lots of money thrown at it (i.e., cancer).
It'll be interesting to see down the road what he does eventually decide upon.
Low End Mac has more information about the Apple/Sun dealings here (yes, I'm well aware that this article was featured on/. a few weeks back) and here.
My thoughts exactly...I'm sure dada21 is frantically typing away his response as to why anarchocapitalism is the One True Economic Way at this very moment.:-P
You may want to revise your list of religious beliefs; if your Slashdot posts at all indictive of your general outlook at life, you do seem to worship at the altar of Austrian School/anarchocapitalist economics...
Thank you for pointing that out to the wider Slashdot community; for a group who (collectively) likes to think that they know a lot about everywhere, most people on here are painfully unaware of the social and cultural makeup of the Plains states. As a Nebraskan, I'd like to add a bit to this and why it hasn't happened in my (equally red) state.
Kansas, historically, has been more of a "Bible Belt" state than Nebraska. As a quasi-useful statistic to back this up, Kansas has, as a perecentage of the population, more Baptists and fewer Catholics than Nebraska does.
Kansas also has a more centralized state/local government system than Nebraska does. Hell, here, we can't even elmininate our remaining 200+ one-room school *districts*, much less get around to mandating (beyond the mildest of generalities) what our school districts teach.
Hey! It's not our fault that we like having nice schools, roads, and so forth; we just don't have the population base to make paying for such things easier (like Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, and Missouri do). It's also not our fault that we don't have mountains to chisel faces into for luring tourists (like SD; if you've ever been there, you also know that the state government doesn't make ANYTHING nice). Finally, I should point out that the other 49 states ARE WY's tax base (a very large portion of their state revenue comes from a tax on coal mining).
The weather here isn't that bad either, it not terribly different than what you get in Denver, Chicago, or New York.
QuickTime 7 seems to break the AppleScript full screen hacks floating about the internet. Does anyone know of an AppleScript that restores this functionality for QT 7?
Conveniently enough, this was just covered on /. a few days ago:
Cool your MacBook Pro
Basically, it boils down to: "Apple, in its quest for ultra, super-duper quietness, sets the fans to run much slower than the speed needed to make laptops usable on laps."
Facebook seems to be evolving in that direction quite nicely.

As a fellow Lincolnite, I'll second that. If you feel that you *must* move to Nebraska, at the very least, find a job in Omaha. ;-)
- Two maps of the county: one showing the ownership of land parcels, the other showed residences (with the names of the current occupants)
- A complete listing of license plates in that county.
The license plate listing section of theses books went away because of privacy concerns. I guess that didn't last very long...Heh, one of my friends started a Facebook group along similar lines a couple weeks ago: Facebook sucks, but not as much as MySpace

Yeah, I'm sure Apple's very disappointed in selling a mere 8.5 million iPods during the quarter when consumer demand is at its lowest.

Wikipedia is a real-life Hitchhiker's Guide: huge, nerdy, and imprecise
Is any of your research findings available on the Internets? Being a 5'5" male myself, I'd like to read more on the topic.

Obivously, TFA was referring to A/UX.
