I seriously doubt Apple shareholders would buy the "Sure we could be making you more money, but what we really want to do is make cool stuff" argument.
Most non-geeks would probably be about 1000x more likely to know the acronym "ESP" over "PGP." We take terms like "PGP" for granted here on/. But most of the world probably has only heard the term "encryption" in passing at best, and has absolutely no clue about specific software to do it.
Lawyers are just laymen as far as we geeks are concerned (they probably think the same of us when we talk about legal issues).
Clones like this and the Psystar machine must have Jobs and the other control freaks at Apple screaming bloody murder right now. For years, their bread-and-butter has been tying their OS to their (IMHO overpriced) hardware. Now it seems that a lot of people are getting sick of it (if the preorders at Psystar are any indication, a *LOT* of people). Not only that, but the more heavy-handed Apple gets, the more they risk that cool-chique image as they appear more and more like just another greedy corporation (i.e., more like MS).
It might well be time for them to consider doing what they could have done years ago, realeasing a general version of Leopard that will run on non-Apple PC's. They might even consider doing an "Apple Certified" program for Dell and other companies wanting to offer OS X as an option for their customers. If their hardware is truly superior, then it won't cost them much hardware business and will cut deeply into Windows' market dominance. In the end, everyone would win--most noteably the consumer (and those who like building their own machines).
So I'm supposed to drop Windows (or use a crippled version of Windows) just because pissy little contrarians like you want *your* OS of choice to have an unfair advantage?!?! Fuck you, buddy!
I wish I could give you mod points, I really do. Why should we stop anyone from running anything they want to on this box? If a government wants to put MS on it, let this have it. If they want Linux on it, let them have it. I'm so sick of this pissing contest.
The exact same thing started happening to me recently on my AT&T DSL connection. I *never* had to reboot the modem before this, now it locks up whenever I try and download a particularly large file. It's definitely not just a coincidence.
I also have AT&T DSL and can confirm that the EXACT same thing has started to happen to me recently. Worked fine for even large downloads before now. But now if I leave it running for more than a 12-24 hours downloading a large file, the internet connection shuts down completely. I have to reboot my modem to get it working again. It's definitely NOT an isolated incident or any mistake. My connection was rock solid before now.
Actually, that suggests a really constrained shooting schedule, not a bad editor. An editor can only do so much with the material you give him, and if your show is shooting at a breakneck pace (i.e. only time for two or three takes of a given scene), the editor will be stuck with a lot of low-quality takes to work from. Mistakes and bad acting will inevitably slip in, since the editor is often in a position of using the "least worse" take.
The funny thing is, I can remember back when Mustaine was considered a sell-out and a jackass, and Metallica were the thrash heroes (remember how they ragged on him on "Cliff e'm All"?). Somewhere in the early 90's that reversed. Now Metallica are the sell-outs and Megadeth/Mustaine are the mavericks.
You need to lay off that crack. The black album was the END of Metallica. Bob Rock producing, songs cut to radio/video time, non-controversial lyrics, a FUCKING BALLAD, etc. It marked the end of the great Metallica era of the 80's and ushered in an era of increasingly embarrassing sell-outs by a band no one thought would EVER sell out. Pretty soon they had cut their hair, were playing with an orchestra, and doing Bob Seeger covers. They went from a kick-ass/fuck-MTV thrash band to a bunch of emo girls in a matter of just a few years. Sad, just sad.
My grandfather used to make home-brew ethanol in the 20's. And I can attest to the fact that the revenuers were constantly giving him shit for it. Obviously, they were in the pockets of big oil.
Except it rarely works like that in real life. In the real world, said artist probably starts by signing his rights away to some corporation decades before his death, meaning that neither he nor his family will be getting shit after that, no matter how long copyright is extended. Only the corporation will benefit.
Me thank you.

Citizen, please put your hands in the yellow circles. The authorities are on their way. Thank you and have a nice day!
If she turns up in Russia with that embezzled money, will the prosecutor apologize?
Him write fine. Your a grammar-Nazi!
Now, maybe they like it in the niche market. But I doubt it. And it certainly doesn't help consumers.

True freedom is the right to promote either.
I play Second Life. Every day, I now have the urge to fly to work, turn myself into a giant penis, and grief the shit out of every newbie I see.
Because, like so many other aspects of the English language, it's not a particularly intuitive difference.

Why should it matter to some poor kid, just needing a way to afford schoolbooks, what OS his laptop is running?

Justice was also the last Metallica album to have any integrity. That's why they call it "selling out," because it sells.

You ever seen how many people they can pack in a single traincar?
Ah...but what a singer.
Maybe this one will be more than just a bunch of walking.
