Actually, Mozilla is updating the browser a lot less often nowadays then they did during 3.X time, don't confuse major version increments to mean progress, the actual development has slowed down.

Mozilla marketing actually wanted to drop version numbers altogether.

One of the reasons that open source development works because real developers don't value money above achievement.

Open source marketing. Listen, it's marketing, you're lucky to even get what you pay for.

Yeah, sure, if you want to use an obsolete version, go ahead, Consumer McSheep. All the cool development work is now being done on version 15... uh, I'm sorry, while I was typing, attention shifted to 17. Ooh, shiny.

I use nightly. That's right, the version that came out this morning. Every day.

It works pretty well actually, but it means more updates.

If the transformer could dual boot into a real Linux desktop environment or if android had a "desktop" application then it could compete with Windows 8. From what I've seen of Android (I've had a MyTouch and now a G2) I'm not sure how much use I'd get out of the keyboard / trackpad. I like the idea... hopefully these things will come. But even if X or Wayland was running inside of Android, wouldn't you still need all the GNU userland?

I didn't buy the keyboard. I agree with everything you have said. It would be very nice to have a more Linux-like environment.

But I didn't expect that, I have a tablet that I can use to do email, watch videos, the news, have a web page I can carry around, nice for recipes in the kitchen &etc., or even a remove control for VLC on my media server. And it's pretty much open.
I don't play games on it really, I have Android on my phone, (Nexus One) sometimes I play games on that, but not much.

Well, my conversation with other people in a broken elevator would concern the topic "how do we get out of here?"

Elevators have notoriously poor internet connectivity. So it's unlikely that you would be able to Google how to get out of the elevator even if the information was available on FaceBook.

So Amazon should shut down, as no one can be expected to keep their credit card details secure on the net. Of course there should be regulation to protect people. Large websites, such as Amazon, Google, Facebook, et al. all can easily be assessed for compliance, and once compliant, a large part of the internet has been made compliant. How a user is supposed to actually *use* the internet without providing any data to it is going to severely limit the uses of the internet. We'll end up with LOLcats all over the place, and nothing of any actual use.

I don't think that the EU will forbid you to give your private data out voluntarily and for your own purposes. I believe the issue revolves around companies distributing your private data for their benefit and without your express permission.

Express permission means "opt in" not "opt out". Opt out is often difficult if not impossible, especially in the case of facebook. Also it is not something that many, if not most, users know that they can do.

You should add keeping IP addresses secret in your over the top argument, then no one could even connect to the internet.
