I admit it's my own site and just something I have been fooling around with but one thing that I think it has over some of the other social bookmarking sites is that it allows you to designate links as public or pviate.

I have most of my links public at http://links.klatt.us/public.php?user=klatt but I have a few that are private.

... and oh yah, RSS feeds :)

A tweaked XP install with unnecessary services turned off and no eye candy is faster than 2000, in my experience. Disk I/O is faster, applications load faster, there is less swapping and if you turn off QoSvc networking is also faster.

I'm not saying you *can't* make XP comparable to speed as 2000. You can definitely tweak the hell out of a standard install. But guess what? You can do that with 2000 too.

Ever hear the automotive term "there is no replacement for displacement"? Bascially what it means is that of course you can put a turbo onto a 4 cylinder motor, to make it comparable to a bigger V-8. BUT, you can put a turbo on a V-8 too, which then again makes it put out more power than the 4 cyclinder. With XP and 2000 it kind of works in reverse since you're trying to strip it down instead of add to it, but it illustrates the point. You start with a much bigger OS in XP. Of course you can strip it down to be comparable to 2000, but then again you can tweak 2000.

It's like taking a slow station wagon and putting a giant motor in it and saying but no station wagons are faster than Mustangs. Idiotic.

Are you out of your mind? I've probably done 100 Windows 2000 installs and probably over 500 XP installs and I've never seen an installation of XP run faster than 2000 on comparable hardware. I think anyone with even limited experiences with 2000 will have no problem saying it's faster than XP.

I would think Micro$oft would want to take a look at this....Of course this would mean people wouldn't have to buy PCs as often...I wonder how Micro$oft's relationship with PC makers compares with Apple making their own hardware...

Something to think about. Any thoughts?

I have a site here http://www.links.klatt.us/ that I put up recently that allows you to save your own bookmarks.

You can create categories and also set links to be private or public, hence sharing them or keeping them public.

One neat feature (especially for you Firefox users), is the RSS feed, if you go to my own person public page: http://links.klatt.us/public.php?user=klatt and look in the lower right hand corner, you'll see an RSS feed. Add that to your "live bookmarks" in Firefox and your links will be updated on all your machines anytime you add them to the website.

If you register a user and add your links you could do this as well.

The next features I will implement will be importing and exporting of bookmarks from the major browsers.

I submitted this to sourceforge but never heard anything back. Anyone ever have this happen?

If anyone wants to help code, or just give me suggestions let me know!

    Thanks,

    Frank

I absolutely agree. In my database systems theory and programming class there are 12 people in the class. 5 people routinely bring laptops to class. That list is 1 Dell, 2 iBooks, and 2 Powerbooks. There is a whole unofficial Mac "club" it seems in my CS dept. Myself, I own one of the iBooks. I am among those people who had always hated Macs before OS X. Then once OS X came out I became of the camp "Not bad, but if you want to do anything useful, with useful software, Windows or *nix is where it's at." Another negative I had always seen of the Mac is that you couldnt configure it as you could with Windows (registry, disable services, et c etc). I realize now that OS X is just as customizable, if not more That being said I received a G4 800mhz , 640 mb, 40 gig, Airport extreme iBook for 400 bucks so I couldn't turn it down. Now I feel myself hating to use my PC (top of the line everything, bought a few months ago). I fear I spent tons of money on the wrong hardware/software. The PC is now delegated to my server/game machine. The best browser I've ever used is on the mac (Camino - www.caminobrowser.org) as well as the best instant messaging program (Adium - Adiumx.com) If only mac gaming was better I would never touch a PC again - except to fix them and get paid ;-)
