#2&3:
You really trust MS to fix their own problems?
One of the easiest ways I've found to crash a computer is to install Windows updates as soon as they come out (which is 3 mos. after the vulnerability was discovered anyway).

I really prefer Avast! myself. More user-friendly than avg imho.
See, but that storage you have to pay for (granted, not much, but). I don't need more clutter on my hd. And,... crap I forgot what I was going to say. That's what happens when you're IMing and/.ing at the same time lol.
Same here. I know that I _can_ use POP in Gmail, but that defeats the whole point of Gmail. Conversations? 2 gigs storage? Labels, Google-searching my email, etc.?
Yeah, now I have yet another browser to worry about when I code. Some will still use v6, so I have to hack my code so that it works on both v6 and v7, not to mention the other browsers that actually interpret code (mostly) correctly...
Sometimes I hate being a good web developer.
Uhm, we're not talking about getting a virus. Or do you not know the difference between, say, a trojan horse and a virus? Besides, windows firewall doesn't protect against outgoing connection attempts. So, you're probably all zombied up and don't even know it... and you're reading/. . Great.
Soule has also done the music for Guild Wars, which I thoroughly enjoy. You can only get the soundtrack with the collector's edition though...
On a side note, I don't know what's up with "real band" music in video games. I rather enjoy the opposite: bands that play in the style of games. That's why I like c64 stuff and think that PPOT is awesome. (They play music on game controllers?!)
Yeah, I know, GW isn't an MMO, but a CORPG (supposedly), but you know how they get compared all the time. And I'm used to praising GW every chance I get, since _everyone_ plays WOW, and it doesn't need any help:) .
Ah, so I'm not allowed to post about my own personal experience? Y'know, that's what the OP did, but he's +4 Informative. Maybe because I didn't [rant][/rant].
The few Dell laptops my school has have right-click disabled, too. Of course, if I was allowed to check one out, I'd install Linux on it...
But no. Our school techs (all 500 of them) are very competent - on Macs. Get them on anything else, and they're lost. But they know their way around the system, and are quite capable of fixing things. It's just that my school prefers to buy new rather than fix.
But our computers don't get beaten on. The most anyone does with them is try to find a way around the proxy so they can visit MySpace. Those who know their way around a computer either
a) haven't learned how to hack a Mac
or
b) are sysadmins fighting to keep things working
Actually, no. I don't hate Ninetendo, but I don't buy console games because I would have to buy the newest gen of all three main consoles in order to make sure I can play a game. Because of MS's domination, I can still play games on this crappy old PC I have, and I can upgrade it easily. And useless bells and whistles? I forgot to mention that I also play C64 games on an emulator.
Please don't get me started on the whole AC thing again.
I hate to tell you, but I don't play minesweeper. I play "real" games, from Guild Wars to ET to Starcraft to Tetris. I code for fun. I am probably going to be going to Harvey Mudd as a CS major. I would enjoy working with higher-level computers, but I don't understand how that would change my view on this. How would working with a high-end computer make me want to use a normal personal computing Mac?
Interesting how I would say almost the same thing, except in reverse.
First, I must say that I don't use laptops. I like power, not portability.
Now, I use a PC at home. My school runs Macs. I shut off my box at home, not because of stability issues, but because of heat (haven't installed new fan) and parental issues. Since I got XP (had ME for several years, not by choice), I have not had one bluescreen. Granted, I've customized it a bit (in a few weeks, I'll be allowed to replace the shell), but it works well. There are some stupid things about Windows, but we're not talking about those now. I do update Windows, and install a whole bunch of crap. I haven't reformatted my hard drive for several years, and I pretty much don't uninstall anything.
At school, I was taking two computer-ish classes this year: multimedia and computer graphics. Multimedia has been a fight with our computers all year. The room(s) are filled with brand-new G5's and them tower-thingies. I don't remember what they are; I'm just told that they are the best desktops Apple makes. Our computers all have different problems. Mine won't connect to the network sometimes, and certain web sites are inaccesible (no, it's not the proxy). My friend's comp freezes every 30 secs. It goes on and on. And whenever we have a problem, Tech Support comes and gives us a new one. After a while, though, we decided that we would rather have the same problem than trying to figure out what was wrong with the new one. Oh, and if it isn't shut off sometime before 5th period (after being turned on in the morning), we have to manually force it off and wait 5 or so minutes so that it will log in (to a local account).
We have had the same problems in graphics. I could also go on about iMovie, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Painter, but this isn't about the apps or the OS. Oh, and the dvd burners are all crap. Even my teacher's brand new iBook won't burn dvds, after 1/2 year of use. I've long forgotten what my original point was, but it boils down to this: Macs suck.

You forgot Spywareblaster. It's passive protection.
Some places do. Many also has specialized programs, such as Web Development.

Yeah, you didn't even use it right. "I do not see the problem that thou dost mention" would be more correct. Thou is you, remember, not me.
Same here. I know that I _can_ use POP in Gmail, but that defeats the whole point of Gmail. Conversations? 2 gigs storage? Labels, Google-searching my email, etc.?
I thought y'all wanted to live in Sweden.

China's the worst? Really?

Lol, this is partly why I play Guild Wars. We get a new chapter every six months...
Ah, and you're using Explorer. I enjoy BBlean much more.
...they designed it. Makes much more sense now.

You're either very naive or in a school filled with nuns or something.
No, I just live in an Okie town.
Which is why I've turned off automatic updates.
