It was reduced in size and installed on all 3 major console's controllers, in some cases in pairs.
We found out that gripping our sticks was less important than easy access to pushing buttons. Not to mention how ergonomically uncomfortable it was for prolonged playtime.
That sounds a bit more suggestive than I intended.
I had serious doubts about this study. I contacted Joseph Fargione, one of the authors. He provided the data to me and It makes some pretty broad assumption and bases its conclusion on the absolute worst case scenario. PLus emphasizes not at all the positive data found about cellulosic ethanol.
Here is the cliff notes. Ethanol from switchgrass has zero to one year carbon debt payback. I asked Mr Fargione if he thought it was irresponsible to paint all biofuels with such a broad brush, go figure, No response.
Let's see. Spend 40 bucks for two hours of Arcade time (if you are lucky/skilled), or spend $40 on a console game with unlimited replay.
Seems like a no brainer to me. If you go to the arcade 3 times a week, you could purchase 12 console games a month. In no time you have more games than the arcade.
Solution: Gaming Clubs. Full of consoles and specialized arcade games. Monthly fees instead of Yen munching slots. Hybrid LanCade and Arcade + consoles. MAchines are cheaper, wider selection.
But here is the brief, Yahoo has no choice, MS has no shot at being Number 2 without buying it, and Google stands to gain by watching it happen and grabbing disaffected Yahoo users who promise to leave in droves if the deal goes through.
1. Be thoughtful before posting information/pictures/videos on the Internet.
2. Try not to be a Dick even when you disagree with someone.
3. Get your own presence on the web.
4. Use Google Alerts.
If you don't want someone to see it, don't post it, is it that hard?
I wish I cared, I tried extra hard but still nothing.
If I want a phone I can modify I should buy a phone that allows it.
Is the iPhone sleek and sexy? Of course, but so are a host of supermodels that I would not want to get into a 2 hour conversation with let alone a 2 yr relationship.
I feel the same way about the iPhone, I'd like to play with one for a little while, but thats about it.
If the true goal of a computer program for a school is to ready its students for the workplace, then is linux really the best method of doing so? Isn't the school in some way doing its students a dis-service my training them on a computing method that they will very likely never use again?
Um, No. A wide range of enterprise servers run Linux or gasp Unix based Operating Systems. Knowing your way around the shell, and administration is a major asset. Never use again, are you kidding me. If they grow up learning linux you think they will chuck it to buy Windows? You think there are no jobs for linux users? You think you cannot install linux on your office machine? Some places this may be true, I try not to work at those places.
A PHP programmer is a PHP programmer, Ruby, Java, C++ the same. Many of the systems these children will learn about will out last the education their windows counterparts were suckered into. Don't believe me, I used a Apple IIs in school followed by IBM PCxt with dos and then 3.11. Besides copy paste little of that knowledge is of any practical value whatsoever. Later I took classes in a Unix environment, I use those commands to this day and see no end of life to their needs.
Teaching kids on systems with an understood planned obsolescence is abhorrent and should be outlawed. Good on you, Mr Gonzalez.
And shame on you Win Admin. How many times have you had to refresh your knowledge to do your job. Learning how to learn is far better than memorizing for a test. Unless oof course you just want your MCSE. You have my pity, and you should really say something about your company putting mission critical application in the hands of MS. At least put it in a VM for cripes sake.
I see a lot of fear in the eyes of Geekdom. Relax my brethren.
Your fear is unwarranted. My take on this: Nokia is a getting a little leary of MS gaining increasing control at Novell with their hand up Miguel.
Besides, basing your products on GTK is hard, there I said it.
QT is a programmer's dream to work with. Fully documented, Open Source, (or Closed if your PHB is twitchy) Cross compatible, and simple. Got a problem a shout out to the trolls usually clears it up. Licensor or not.
Nokia makes hardware and wants to control their own destiny. Makes perfect business sense, but so does keeping the good will of the community. Recent foibles with the n700 taught them that.
I use only KDE, I develop Desktop Applications and Embedded Devices using QT. It would be fair to call me a fanboy of the Trolls. I also have an unhealthy desire to own a n810, n700, and n800. The only thing holding me back was that I hate the GTK based Maemo toolkit. Recently KDE was ported, and with this development is making it difficult for me to contain the copious amounts drool.
The company has pinched what it could from open source land. The fat client is a custom version of Firefox, with a fork of the Songbird music player layered on top. Normally software developers could expect a decent license fee from a $30m start-up for use of their work - but in the new Tim 2.0'Reilly "freetard" model, the Firefox and Songbird developers don't get a cent for their labour - merely the satisfaction that they're "building a platform".
am glad i live in a country where these abuses of privacy are outlawed by the constitution and the government would never even think to monitor our voice and data transmissions.
That is why I am proud to be an American. They what, Oh damn.
And don't trot out the old thing about shareholders having a right to know, blah blah. That's bullshit. It's my company, and if you don't like the way I run it, sell your fucking shares. Okay? We straight on that?
I would have liked to have seen a little more expansion into the 'improv' process which was asked about
I had a friend interview the guys back in the old days while Joel was still there. The "improv" process consists of watching the movie over and over again (between 7 and 20 times) and shouting out what you think is funny. That gets paired down to a script which is usually stuck to pretty well. When its not you can hear Joel laughing.
I was asking specifically if a Windows GUI for Linux could be coming - a full GUI, *replacing* Xanything, KDE, Gnome, etc.
What a ridiculous idea. Why would you want the stability of Linux Kernel with the inherently unstable Windows Explorer. You miss having to Ctrl-Alt-Del several times a day, don't you. It's OK, we have support groups for people like you.
I can't think of a single reason this would be a good idea. The solutions listed give you a full windows experience and let you keep the stability and compatibility of Linux. Your suggestion sounds like the worst of all possible worlds, Linux without any X apps, strapped to Explorer, shudder. Most of us have to jump through hoops to get an Xserver up for Windows when we are forced to use it.
Perhaps you should take your suggestion to Microsoft, I'm sure they would be thrilled to abstract the GUI to run on another OS.

I hope Google does bail them out of this. I'd hate to see Microsoft ruin a few decent services. Chief among them, Flickr.
Like I said though, Google stands to gain a ton of users flocking away if MS acquires Yahoo.
Heck of a job, Balmy!

I don't know what you are talking about.
He isn't kidding the Windows Port is coming along nicely. Can KDE Save a Dying Windows Platform?
