Would someone tell me how this happened? We were the fucking vanguard of audio in this country. Stereo was the system to own. Then the other guy came out with an 6 speaker system. Were we scared? Hell, no. Because we hit back with a little thing called 5.1 surround. That's five speakers and a subwoofer. For Bass. But you know what happened next? Shut up, I'm telling you what happened - the bastards went to 8 speakers. Now we're standing around with our cocks in our hands, selling five speakers and a subwoofer. Surround sound or no, suddenly we're the chumps. Well, fuck it. We're going to 14 speakers.

Individual companies can't get away with shipping jobs to India due to the offshoring stigma, so what do they do? They hire consulting firms like IBM who basically do the dirty work for them. Problem solved; good cheap labor at a fraction of the cost without it being a PR nightmare because technically the company isn't offshoring. I've seen this happening more and more. Kind of scary.

Having said that, I think they do need safeguards in place to detect fraud, and to encrypt the fricking backups and sensitive data for god's sake. If you make the data at least somewhat difficult to get, it will deter most criminals.

Dvorak seemed to have an axe to grind w/ MVP Chris Boyd about associating BT w/ spyware. I looked at the referenced blog post and I couldn't find where Boyd was implying that Bittorent is spyware. Boyd was just be saying that bitorrent was used as a vehicle to transport spyware, not that BT was spyware. Oh and by the way, the research paper was jsut that, a paper, when has it been touted as anything more. It had some good points in my opinion such as the fix to the missing piece problem, or last piece problem which BT suffers from. If anyone is spreading FUD its Dvorak.

But it would have been nice to see Brahm address the biggest potential draw to avalanche, which is that is solves the missing piece problem. I didn't see Brahm say a damn thing about that.
