OK I will admit that Canadians pay more for mobile plans than the USAsians amongst us do. However, you get a lot for your money. You get health care and a less embarrassing government for starters!
Irrelevant. Hobos all have smart phones now. Are you more messed up than a hobo? If so, please don't get in the car. You'll ruin it.
If you seriously don't have a smart phone I will give you an old iphone 4 and help set you up with a $12/month plan with minutes/data/sms. Or you can buy a decent low end smartphone for well under $50
I like an old movie palace with a working pipe organ that is played before big shows. There is nothing quite like hearing the mighty wurlitzer roaring out pop tunes from the 1930s and then the latest star wars movie starts playing.
Home depot has a car analogy, but walmart only has analogies about bucket analogies. The ones at walmart are cheaper but don't last as long because they don't have as much plastic inside them.
Are you sure about that? I used to take golf balls apart in the 70s and they varied wildly. Some had a tiny hollow rubber ball surrounded by meters of rubber band like material wrapped around willy-nilly, covered by a multi layered skin. I doubt that they became less sophisticated over the years.
OK, I am familiar with the German system. I don't understand how the public option hurts the paid care. All the Germans I know like the system's main parts. To me, the German system is a good example of universal health care with capitalism provided care on top of it and it working out well for rich and poor alike.
OK, so once again. Is there a market on this planet that you like? Somewhere, anywhere, is there a single country that approaches health care in a manner that you approve of?
I'm thinking there isn't, or you would have brought it up the first time I asked. Given that there isn't you should think about why. It is possible that your approach is not valid or it hasn't been tried yet.
You should consider donating blood regularly. I haven't had a flare up since I started donating at the maximum frequency. I used to get a few a year, now it has been several years without a single flare up.
I happen to enjoy alcohol, and this regimen has allowed me to continue to enjoy it without negative effects. Pretty much everything I like to eat is high in purines, so I needed to find another way to manage. Mushrooms, shellfish, fish, meat, beans all high in purines. Now I don't care!
I'm really curious. Your only example of private, self paid health care, with the power of free markets providing competition and lower costs is in the United States? The US has the highest costs in the whole world. Is the free market so horrible that literally any other approach, however socialist, offers better outcomes at lower cost?
I'm starting to think that libertarians aren't serious people with any ideas to contribute. It's a shame because I agree with some of their axioms.
Working conditions used to be awful. Unions improved conditions for all, union or not, and are the sole reason we have things like days off, health care, safety rules, and good pay.
As unions have lost power conditions have begun eroding, especially for unskilled workers. It's fine to think you are self reliant, but you exist in an environment that was shaped by a lot of other peoples effort. You are benefiting from that. Now that that force is fading conditions will continue to deteriorate.
I've worked in numerous instances of both approaches and the homegrown mailservers in general have been far worse, in terms of features and downtime. Expensive, too.
Modern examples of google or microsoft sourced email has excellent spam filtering and uptime. There isn't any reason to do it yourself anymore. Sure, I could possibly manage a mailserver pretty well but it is a poor use of my time.
It varies widely depending on where you are, but the median income in the US for adult workers is 30k You will be pleased to realize that you make double what the average person makes! Mean is dragged up by the ultra rich, to 44k, but you make more than that too!
Ticks are awful creatures. I'll never forget one time we were camping and realized our legs were absolutely covered with ticks. It was like a scene from a horror movie.
Now I spray my shoes and socks and pants with permethrin. It lasts for months and survives multiple washings. It's a chemical cousin of a natural insecticide and it is super effective against ticks. Mosquitos too!
Different poster, maybe I can help explain. I have to listen to friends gripe about their kids a lot. They have endless litanies of problems. They blame all kinds of things on their kids and ditch plans or financial obligations because of their kids.
Then they have the gall to hound me about having kids. They make condescending remarks about how I'll change my mind. They claim that they love having kids when they're in hound mode but next time johnny burns a cat to death it's back to complaining.
So yeah, I guess I'm a little bitter about it. The hypocrisy, lies, and bullying attempts to get me to make the same mistake make me a tad bitter.
Why the hostility? Are you having a bad day/life or something? It's within your power to improve things! Try being nice to people, you will be happier and your life and day will go better.
I'm on 680, the robot tells me to get off at mission, I follow about a hundred cars doing the same. I see a store I want to shop at and follow about a dozen cars into the lot. They are all getting off the freeway and going to the packed store. I watch them do it. I talk to people in the store, we share some gallows humor about the traffic. I'm not just making shit up here, ok?
In Fremont you aren't correct. I drive this route a couple times a month during rush hour and like to work errands into the rare days that I drive. I often stop at restaurants, grocery stores, other retail, bars, etc. and they are all slammed. Often the parking lots are near capacity. I like taking care of my todo list while traffic thins out and it appears that many thousands of other commuters feel the same.
I don't live in Fremont, don't work in Fremont, it is just on my way. I probably spend several hundred dollars a month there over the handful of days I am passing through.
In many places in the USA there are laws governing what taxis must charge per mile. Check the route using Google Maps and you'll know almost exactly what it costs before calling. When you call, you can also ask them what the price will be and I've never had anyone not provide me an accurate answer. Sure, talking is slower than reading, but you can still get the same info.
Wrong!
Every cab I've ever taken, or heard of, has had a complicated formula for fares. Sometimes it is posted in some partial form, usually not. It varies from driver to driver. There are charges for initial pickup, extra passengers, waiting, luggage, etc. that may or may not be applied. There are things like a mileage fee that varies depending on speed. At low speeds a per minute charge is applied, in addition to the mileage fee. You could take a hundred cabs along the exact same route and get a hundred different fares. The amounts would differ by several hundred percent minimum.
Calling and asking is a crapshoot. They may give you a price but they are not obligated to honor it. See above.
Many cabs I've taken take suboptimal routes. Maybe it is better for traffic, but whether or not it is better the cabbie makes more money.
I will never voluntarily take another cab in my life unless they offer clear, upfront pricing like the ride apps provide.
There are lots of working homeless who keep their things in a car, sleep in a car. Various arrangements including storage units, friends with an apartment, gyms for showering.
Implausible commutes are common. Sad as it is there are many people who commute 3 hours each way for a menial job.
Lots of people pack apartments, 2-3 adults per room.

green = go
yellow = floor it
red = floor it and HONK!

[spits out coffee] but that's Obamacare!
It is a Japanese proverb
The nail that sticks out gets hammered down.
Does this exist anywhere on this lush planet?
If not, why not?

An apostrophe means "Look out here comes an s!"
Whoop's, should be mean's...

For the ultimate security I recommend a password of infinite length. Countably infinite is fine.
Uncrackable!

No NIMBYs in my back yard!
