    Apple never claimed to be OPEN and TRANSPARENT and neither am I aware of any attempt by them to hijack standards.

    Facebook has advertisement deals with Canadian Companies. Choosing to abandon that revenue, whatever it accounts for, won't be that easy.

    Don't move to BC. Move to Alberta or Saskatchewan. There are large scale oil rigging operations in both of the provinces and a huge labor shortage in almost all professions including IT.

    And yeah, I do work in Calgary, Alberta.

    To be honest, none of the phone/smartphone available in the market are suitable for serious administration. Sure you can get ssh client for almost all the smartphone oses but typing on any of the phones is a bitch. Don't even think about doing VI or Emacs as none of the phones has the full keyboard. Well except for running some quick scripts or checking the status of a server or so, its impractical.
    As some of the posters already suggested, a small PC like EEE coupled with a 3G modem might be a much better idea though you can't carry it in your pocket.

    What makes you think that a company which couldn't capitalize on The Internet (which, I must add, was their particular playground) will be any more successful in integrating products which it doesn't even make aka TV, Stereo etc?

    Okay just to clarify, I believe that it is their official policy (leaned from friends who work there) to have their employees use live search first and only use alternate service (read: google) if they cannot find what they are looking for. They also are encouraged to provide feedback on what they couldn't find.

    Good argument however you forgot one thing. People won't USE live search.
    Why? because according to your own argument, the only thing they are concentrating on is money back, and no one will go to live.com and wait for their shiny graphics to load just to search for best digital camera which, mind you, will only be a small percentage of the search a person does on daily basis.

    And again, advertisers don't advertise in a newspaper which is solely made up of ads. They advertise in a newspaper which has meaningful contents and more people read.
