Bravo sir, Bravo...What you've written is brilliant. I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately for you and I religion will NEVER go away. Here's the catch. Religion is based on faith. The opposite of faith is doubt. To a religious person, anyone who doubts religion is clearly wrong and that just means you must try harder to convince them of your religion. Not too many people say, "Damn your right. My religion doesn't make sense at all." Instead they say, "You poor misguided person. I will pray for you.", and become even more steadfast in their religion.

That's why I'm moving to mars.

    Representative Ed Homan,
I am writing to express my extreme displeasure with the recent successful lobbying efforts by Microsoft regarding Senate Bill 1974. As a tax payer of this state I am disgusted that the Congress of this state would cave to the wants and desires of a monopolistic company who have no intentions of serving the people or the state but only seek to increase their already enormous financial wealth. I am huge proponent of open standards and open software. The prospect of having open source software running on government computers is highly desirable. Millions of tax payer dollars could be saved by switching to free operating systems such as Ubuntu Linux (www.ubuntu.com) and switching to free office solutions like OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org). If Microsoft wants to have the governments use Microsoft products, they should donate them to the government and get a tax write off for it. I should not have to pay taxes so government employees can use substandard expensive software. When large monopolistic corporations send lobbyists to ensure the will of the Microsoft is fulfilled I should be able to have faith that my Congress will represent me accurately and realize the lies and untruths these lobbyists are spreading about open source software. Please consider ratifying the bill and rewriting it to embrace open standards and open source software. Thank you.

I know for a FACT that people who are clueless about computers already have the idea Vista sucks and do not want to buy it.

You know why? They ask US for advice and we tell them it sucks. I can personally think of 5+ accounts of average users asking about upgrading to Vista and a horde of geeks respond with a resounding NO! These are some of the things I've heard average users say about Vista...

    1. "It's riddled with anti-piracy locks, why get Vista when my pirated copy of XP works fine"
    2. "XP works great, why should I get Vista?"

You can pay $1300 for a mac...or you can spend $700 for a PC. Which do you THINK parents are going to buy? Parents aside, what do you think MOST people are going to go with.

This is simply untrue. Go to any campus and you'll see the adoption rate of Apple laptops vs PC is making a dominating comeback. Take for exampe my univ, University of Central, 6th largest univ in the nation (47,000 students). I'd say about 3 out of 5 laptops are Macs. A student going to college probably has the financial backing of their parents and they want the best for their child. Most parents ARE willing to pay $600 for a better laptop, which is why they're EVERYWHERE on campus.

Apples decision to limit their OS to their hardware is what is killing their adoption rate. If I could buy OSX for my PC...i probably would, just so I could have both. But I don't want to have to spend twice as much on my computer just to run an OS that TECHNICALLY doesn't do as much as Windows does...

This is true, but it's a double edged sword. Apple's ability to control the hardware and the software make the whole computing experience more enjoyable. While making their OS open to other hardware would increase adoption it would ruin the computer experience that Mac OS X and Apple hardware currently do so well.
