If Obama would've taken even a half-hearted swing and curbing the annual, national deficits, I'd listen, but his administration (and Congress) are not taking them seriously.
On the other hand... The passing the actual budget is the job of Congress and it's impossible to do anything to reduce the debt and annual deficit and maintain a responsible community when one party chants only "more tax cuts - for the rich; less support - for the poor". Granted the Democrats are incompetent and uncoordinated, but the Republicans are evil and uncaring (unless your rich).
Both parties and all the Congress Critters should remember that their duty is to the Country first, all the people second, their respective constituents third and then their individual supporters. And by "people" I don't mean Corporations; I mean actual people. Sorry Citizens United, you're a bad law. In addition, Congress should do their job instead of letting Lobbyists doing it for them.
Of course, I could be wrong and everything is actually "peachy".
"Deep Impact" was only slightly more plausible. Morgan Freeman and Robert Duvall were impressive, the rest, Spielbergian cloyingly cute kids and family values.
The best moment in that movie was when Jenny Lerner (Téa Leoni) found the online article for ELE (Extinction Level Event) and figured out what the President (Freeman) was actually talking about during their "meeting" and that the planet was fucked. The dumbest part (and there were many) was anything having to do with (apparently) Virginia geography and Virginia Beach (I live here - er - there).
Exactly what I was thinking: Define "destroy". Do they mean completely vaporize or just something that will do the job?
Yes, if only there was a way to know what the students meant, like, oh I don't know, reading the article?
TFA says "destroy" but movie clearly intends "split". The students got it wrong - but so did the movie. Movie assumes the resultant two pieces would clear the Earth on opposite sides - as shown on the briefing simulation video (after the "Roadrunner Thrust Move" comment), but if the split was perpendicular to the asteroid's vector then both halves would then collide with the planet. The desired outcome was pure chance.
You know... I heard many Chick-fil-A stores actually ran out of chicken a few days ago and could use a re-stocking. Mmm... I'll have the country-style H7N3 sandwich and large waffle-fries.
I do hope that they back it up with a PIN, making it full three-factor authentication. While biometrics are useful in being unique identifiers, they are not secrets. An attacker could use the gummi bear fingerprint technique using latent fingerprints extracted from a stolen card...
In addition, The Mythbusters also fooled fingerprint scanners using the same techniques as the Schneier link (above), and also with a photocopy of a fingerprint:
A 3-D thumbprint imprinted on a latex strip to be worn over someone else's thumb.
A 3-D thumbprint imprinted on ballistics gel, which has the same viscosity and density as human tissue.
A photocopy of a scanned image of Grant's thumbprint.
Anyone conversant in 808x assembler can put together a clone in a matter of days. This isn't an academic statement, I put together one myself for a A Level Computer Science course in the 1980s when I wrote a "CP/M emulator" for the Sinclair QL as my final project. [emphasis mine]
Of course, that's an academic statement of another sort.:-)

...and as a previous commenter said once you set things up in your editor of choice it's not that big of a deal.
Sure, and I'm a heavy Emacs user -- and also LISP programmer, to respond to another post -- (from way back), but I and others routinely (nay, daily) also use several other editors, sometimes on the same code, depending on when and where we have to edit it. We also use several other languages daily - and (w/2 others) maintain about 500k lines of code in about 10 different languages on Solaris/Linux/Windows (none of which are white-space delimited) - so learning and using another language isn't the issue. Personally, it's more that I dislike things that are stupid for no good reason, such as are white-space delimited blocks (as I mentioned before).
Well, I like both, so I won't really argue with you on which is "better."
I'm just not bothered by the whitespace. All languages have their quirks and at least the whitespace one is done for a good reason and doesn't get in my way.
Agreed. Sometimes there are several appropriate tools for a job and programming languages fall into this category based on many factors, so arguing over which is "better" is often silly.
On the other hand, there is *no* good reason for white space delimited blocks, other than that's the way Python was designed -- especially when mixing tabs and spaces can give one an aneurysm:-) [ Remember kids that X11 converts tabs to spaces during cut/copy and paste...]
All languages have their eccentricities; some are quirks, some are weird, some are just stupid.
The enforced whitespace is really not that big a deal, especially if you are using a decent editor. I never even have to think about it.
Perhaps, but it still stupid, unnecessary and potentially problematic. Other than Python being inherently object-oriented, I can't fathom any reason for it over Perl for most tasks. (Not trying to flame/troll, I'm just saying that's my opinion w/25+ years of experience.)
the pinnacle of human fitness, try something like the US Navy SEALs. [ Any other better examples/. ? ]
Nah. If you want fitness try somebody from Cirque du Soleil.. or a Ballet dancer. They'll run rings around one of those Navy grunts.
Possible, but I have trouble imagining a ballerina or Cirque du Soleil performer HALO jumping into the ocean, swimming 5 miles (with full combat gear), hiking 10 miles (w/said gear), doing God knows what over/under buildings, night-vision shooting some bad-guy in the eye and getting the fuck out - all undetected - before breakfast. Just sayin'. But, hey it *could* happen - though aren't those Soleil guys/gals Canadian?:-)
I see your point, but there's something to be said for being the pinnacle of human physical fitness.
Pinnacle for a specific purpose/sport/activity perhaps. Track, swimming, gymnastic, archery, etc... fitness (and skills) are not interchangeable. You want to see the pinnacle of human fitness, try something like the US Navy SEALs. [ Any other better examples/. ? ]
I had a (10-year-old) 5GB WD Enterprise SCSI drive at home that refused to power up after an extended system shutdown while on vacation - system normally ran 24/7 (ya, for 10 years - suck it IDE/ATA). Rapped it with a hammer when I heard the clicks - fixed. Of course, I backed up and replaced the drive then and there.

It seems weird that a patient can't get access to data about his own heart.
On the other hand... How much data do people w/o implanted devices have? Seems he's still in the same boat.
... fried chicken and french fries are now health food and the Pill can prevent STDs.

Your mouse. How to move it left and right AND up and down on your screen.
Chapter 3: Moving Diagonally.
(How to successfully combine left/right with up/down.)
...a little known sport where competitors furiously code for five hours in pursuit of glory and cash prizes...
That was the original story line for a movie, but I hear Vin Diesel preferred cars over code.

Gesundheit. What else is there to know?
Nina can help users manage their bank accounts, book flights and hotels, oversee and manage their investments, and more.
I'll manage my personal finances and travel arrangements myself, thank you very much.
i was at the beach last month and my iphone was SLOW. i look around and every other person has a smart phone.
Hmm... Seems you and the others were using the beach wrong. Not trying to judge, but put down the phone and enjoy the surf, sand and sun.
As big as a Mini Cooper they said, which seems a bit of an oxymoron, truth be told. ;-)
Unless, your name is Cooper and your girlfriend likes to nickname your penis...

So, that's a feature, right?
Let's see - Obama as the dreaded "BallHog", Michael Moore as "Frito", and Bill Maher as "Dildo". Should be EPIC!
Romney as the Tree...
I was wary about stretching it into 2 movies. Its not that long of a book, not much actually happens. 3 movies is just a money grab by the studio.
I wasn't worried about that until I heard the titles for the three movies:

Sure. Now it's just regular fish. Next it will be sharks, then sharks with lasers. It will be all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
One word: Hammer.
