It is against rules in the European human rights agreement and the Lisbon-Treaty (which made the EU a little bit more democratic). The European Parliament has expressed their concern that ACTA is not discussed in the public, which is not very democratic, but big companies especially US-companies can have treaty documents. So a elected parliament is kept in the dark while the money jerks are directly involved. In short the parliament is pissed. And they will dismiss it, just they did with the SWIFT-spying treaty between the EU and the USA. When do executive politicians learn that we life in a democracy?

However, the BSI does not spy on people. This is done by another agency. And the BSI is so much the government as it is the police or judges.

ACTA will only work when every (first world) country is implementing it, but the EU-Parliament is already against it, because the discussion on ACTA and all documents are kept undisclosed. You could say: Who cares what this parliament is thinking? Well Obama should care, because if the parliament is not involved and the documents are not public, then the EU will not implement ACTA which means almost 500 mio people will not be threatened by ACTA. Third world countries will not adopt to ACTA either when the EU is not doing so.

Even though, some information leaked and it looks like that ACTA would not be legal in Germany as the constitutions defines certain rights. For example the state is not allowed to transfer information on Internet-traffic to private organizations without reasonable suspicion and a letter from a judge. Also the three-strikes-law-idea is against the rules in the EU, and obviously it is against the French constitution. And I am absolutely sure if they would try it in Germany it will fail too. As cutting you of from the Internet violates your right to be informed. And this right is very important in a democracy. It is definitely not an allowed sanction by any European constitution or agreement. So ACTA may be a dead horse and Obama is riding it. It would be better when he would tell all these US-Americans that general health care is good and that securing the existential basis of any person in a country is a necessary thing.

Today's IDE use special windows and sections to display structures of classes, XML files, schema definitions. Automatic generated program documentation is also already in proportional fonts. While most of the reading is done to lookup features (method names, tags, structural semantics) this is already done with proportional fonts. The only place where you read actual mono spaced text is in an editor to edit a class or function (if you are programming in a non OOP language).

However, there are other techniques which can improve reading speed at an even bigger scale. You could use domain specific languages (DSL) to generate C, Java, Python, Ruby, Fortran, etc. code. So instead of describing every aspect of every class you can use a problem specific language to model everything. Combined with AOP you can reduce the code base which must be read by humans by 300-400%. And if you are writing another application for the same domain you are able to reuse a lot of the template and artefacts you used for the first time.

In my actual position I will develop a domain specific language (DSL) which includes the description of some sort of automaton maybe something based on sync charts. Also the DSL shall be able describe things on different abstraction levels or for different abstraction levels. And on the upper level networks have to be described and verified analytically (if possible). This all involves graph theory. Vectors, euclidean space, differentials (analysis) is used mostly in simulations and sometimes (rarely) in stochastic/statistics. So go for the graphs. I also recommend learning something about description logic, Turing machines, horn clauses, languages etc. (but that should be already part of the required curriculum in any Bachelor program).

In the past the US compensated this problem by importing scientists and engineers from Europe, India, and other continents and countries. Since the US became more restrictive, these scientists stay in other countries. Also the Dollar is losing value, so it makes less sense to work abroad and bring back Dollars.

  13. Re:56 trains a day on China Debuts the World's Fastest Train · · Score: 1

I do not find this that expressive. 56 trains is even a little vague, but assuming the mean 56 trains running over the whole distance, than that would mean 2.33 trains an hour over the whole day. Further assuming they will not run trains during the night. Then this results in a 30 minute schedule for both directions. The Japanese are running their trains in a tighter schedule and in Germany there run more trains on the tracks with even different speeds between the stations. So this looks only impressive to US-Americans. The impressive thing about that Chinese train system is, that a developing country is building a developed country rail system. And they want to build a rail grid with 16000 km length. That is really impressive even though Germany's total track length is 41000 km (20000km electrified).

As for the US you really should invest in your rail infrastructure, while fossil fuels will get very expensive in future, many flights might become very expensive too. Trains however can be powered with electricity from renewable sources. And the east and west coast are densely populated to make trains a good alternative to plains. And building infrastructure would be a far better way to spend money than giving it to banks. It will even generate lots of jobs for years. To make most of a trains system you should combine it with a local train subnet and streetcars(trams) and city railways.

However, it is not very energy efficient to run trains on these speeds. And the attrition of wheels and tracks increase drastically.

And the article has one error the fastest train is the TGV-Atlantique with a top speed of 515,3 km/h. Even though that speed is not achieved in normal operations, as this is not really econimical to run trains that fast in Europe with stops every 50-100 km. So people stop buying unimportant luxury stuff, like games or game consoles. When they bau they try to spend less money. That's why they buy netbooks rather than full fledged notebooks.

In addition to the recession. The consoles are now on the market for quite some time. And the number of people who really want such device already bought it. So fewer people want new units. In some cases people buy replacement units for their old machines. But honestly, the market is satisfied and new devices are not needed. The next thing would be to create new consoles which can do things the old one cannot, but what shall that be? As graphics is not the primary sales argument, it is story line.
