I'm a sort of less brown man (unless it's summer and then I'm a little bit brownish), and I was "randomly selected" to be searched at Newark airport. Again. Sorry, LIBERTY airport, I keep forgetting its funny new name. Anyhow, there were lots and lots of brown men there that weren't put on the mat and frisked, and had their bags put into the whatever-the-fuck-that-thing-detects detector. Just sayin'.

Turns out when my ticket has SSSSS on it, then I get frisked. and because it's random, it can happen randomly. Sometimes the roulette wheel will hit 5 three times in a row.

the flash iPods will come out, and like the Nazis used gun registration records to go disarm the people they didn't want armed, Apple will use the iPod warantee registration records to hunt you down and FORCE you to fork over $$$ to replace your hard drive based iPod with the newer flash version.

they'll probably do the same with x86 based Macs.

if you buy a flash drive it will have no such notices as technology has evolved and people have developed ways to circumvent those limitations. also most flash memory is between 20x and 40x the speed it was 5 years ago. i suspect that number will increase.

cds suck. they scratch, they don't hold all that much, and i'll take solid state over spinny shit any day of the week.

I'm currently running Windows Server 2003 on a Pentium II 450Mhz with 256M of memory. It's used as a server for intranet duties, and runs SQL Server, IIS, .NET, etc. When I saw this worked, and worked well enough for the task, I pulled an extra Pentium II 400Mhz from a computer with a dead power supply to keep around as a hot spare.

Prior to this, I ran a server with Dual Pentium Pro 200Mhz in it (one was overclocked from 180Mhz) and 128MB RAM, enough to run my arcade game hobby site coinop.org on it, along with a handful of low-budget client sites, with no ill effects. Maybe not that interesting, but that site uses SQL server for most page views, and has full-text search, etc. It was a workstation (not server) class machine.

I was sad to finally pull it, but when the hard drive finally became intolerable as far as bearing noise, I upgraded.

Or is that the SBA? Not the coin, mind you, but is this SPA the same organization that counts every downloaded file everywhere as a lost sale and estimates these huge numbers of dollars/euros/skekels as being "lost" to piracy every year?

I might be off my rocker.

The Google Toolbar will handle the brokering, it'll send out, uh, "computations" and get back results, so if your app was going to draw something along a sinus wave, it would send the computations for each degree to 359 machines and then store the results in a lookup table in the toolbar on your machine. Or something like this.

They hire really good people at google. i've seen their ads, and I've heard their statement that they can't find enough qualified people. So just imagine what they've got.

Yeah, but like there's only a small percentage of "the people" that are going to buy an XBOX360 to run Linux, and most of them are probably already running it on everything from their cell phone to their GBA to their wireless router. If I want a cheap box to run Linux on, I can go to the CompUSA down the street, and for $400 I can get a decently fast AMD, 512M, 60GB HD, built in ATI 3D graphics. Etc. Sure, it won't render 3D as fast as the XBOX, but if I'm going to put Linux on it I probably care less about that anyway. Plus I can plug a faster Video card into it later if I want to, the XBOX is fixed in time. If you want to eke out the maximum performance from the XBOX360, which is what happens on game consoles over time since it's a FIXED platform, it's only going to be a benefit for the other assclowns that modified their XBOX360s. I mean, so much of the "running linux on X device" is just show and tell.
