Taken in context: "Yahoo is actually really big over there. eBay exists, but may as well not: Yahoo! Auctions is overwhelmingly dominant in online auctions. Yahoo! Shopping takes the role of Amazon.com. (Amazon itself has a presence also, and it isn't too shabby.) And Yahoo! Japan is also a broadband provider with a lot of mindshare."
Links for Japan.
What does this have to do with Mexico? Why not post links for Mexico since, you know, this article is about Mexico, not a country that is not even on the same continent?
I agree, it is mixed, but it's still not a constructive way to promote a competitor's software. It's kind of like Blizzard showing up at a Valve event.
I wouldn't know how they look since it was slashdotted. I agree that informing and educating the public is a good thing, but why not bring laptops running a distro and actually SHOWING them rather than just counting on them installing it on their own systems (I guarantee most of those disks hit the trash).
No, not really. While techies will herald this as a good thing, normal computer users will go "Well that was rude!" and "What is Linux?". Case in point: when I shared this on my Facebook I had 3 comments go "I thought a Gnu was an animal?", "Did they have to crash the party? Why not just send the journos a press release with pros/cons?" and "What OS do you use?" to which I replied "I use Win 7 on my desktop, Win 7 with Ubuntu dual booting on my laptop, OSX Mountain Lion on my Macbook Pro and ICS on my phone."
...but someone in a Gnu suit? Kind of misleading, yeah?
I do have to agree with the other posters though. It does seem like trolling an event. If Microsoft came into a Gnu event it would be bashed as them crashing a party. Same kind of thing here.
I know. It's gotten so ridiculous that it's almost impossible to create anything new without stepping on somebody's patent. Lets not even open the door to frivolous lawsuits based on said patents.
I'm going to copyright the following:
if() { }
if() {
} else { }
if {
} else if() {
}
Then sue every programming language that uses these statements.
That's how I think Google should react to this. Java uses statements, constructs and expressions that other languages use, therefore how can they honestly say that their language is not a derivative of whatever language all of this came from?
Of course, since it is 1:49 in the morning and I've been up coding most of the day, I will say that if they do want someone else to come along that is lesser qualified than I am they should probably look at my contract really closely since it gives me the option to get a nice severance package.
Actually, since I hold an AAST, MCSE, MCP and CCNA I'd say I know a little more than just "hitting delete" in Active Directory. I prefer Ubuntu over Windows, Cisco over Netgear and I know the difference between a do-while and while-do statement. Thanks for asking, though!
Actually, as I said before, if they know what they're doing and I can prove that (hands-on tests usually) then I don't care if they have a lapse in employment. The economy sucks and there are a lot of out-of-work programmers that know what they are doing, can write clean and concise code and not crash machines with a bunch of needless loops.
At 34 I've re-entered the job market myself after giving my own business a shot and I landed a job as CTO of a start-up game company. We're developing a couple of games now (one while will be in beta tomorrow) and when I look for programmers, I could care less about a space in employment as long as they can demonstrate the skills needed for the job.

Actually, joomla and wordpress both have multiple free extensions that handle Facebook comments, Disqus comments, twitter feeds, etc.
Let's not forget McAfee and Norton pre-installed which are the worst pieces of crapware out there.
Bootable LiveCD?

Ha! I knew someone would pick up on that.
Dreading? Not really. I can't wait to start invoicing for these migrations, myself. Should get me a new car out of it.

No overhaul needed of the patent system, right?
...had it right? Would this also fall under space-time maybe?
...duh?

Hey Arizona, welcome to the internet. I have some delicious cake for you. Just walk through this door.

Quite possibly. We're in Mansfield, Ohio.

We use the Galaxy Tablets where I am CTO. They are simply great tablets.
I had to write BASIC on an abacus (in binary!!) in the middle of a ballpit, outside, while it was snowing!
