From Super Troopers:
Captain O'Hagan: I swear to God I'm going to pistol whip the next guy who says, " Shenanigans." Mac: Hey Farva what's the name of that restaurant you like with all the goofy shit on the walls and the mozzarella sticks? Farva: You mean Shenanigans? Mac: OOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Thorny: OOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

I think MSFT would switch. I read an interesting article about how MSFT tried to convince apple to let them license fairplay for use on the 360 and apple said no way...
Right. But as long as they control the boxes, pirates/hacking is a minor issue. If they move to cable cards, watch out. Pirating will be a HUGE issue.
Let me put it this way. I know lots of people who know lots of ways to get free music and movies and tv shows on their PC's over the internet.
I know very, very few people who are able to hack in to a digital cable box from BrightHouse and set it to give them all the channels.
If the industry switches to CableCard, you can bet there will be tons of people with a "patch" for their PC's that allows them to get all the channels.

Until they add CableCard or some similar feature to Media Center PC's, I think the appeal will be limited. On that subject, I don't see why the cable company would want me to get a cable card when they could just continue charging me to use their digital box.
Maybe I'll just read a book instead.

I hate spam as much as the next person, but why is that SPAM causes an uproar while the junk mail I get in the mailbox outside my house continues to pile up?
I mean from a 'green' point of view, isn't spam much better than actually cutting down trees for this garbage? I can just hit delete to get rid of the spam.
Not sure how we got on the topic of hybrids, but while we are, there was a fantastic article if one of the automobile monthly magazines.
The author was talking about the fact that a hybrid needs to be driven for something like 66,000 miles per year to realize a savings of fuel costs versus price of the car.
He also went in to the eventual disposal of the giant battery/batteries in these cars. Not a pretty picture.
And perhaps most interesting was this. While the Toyota Prious (sp) is a hot seller, the other hybrids are not. The Toyota is a hot seller because it LOOKS like a hybrid an appeals to people wanting to make a statement. The Honda Accord hybrid looks like a regular Honda Accord so they are not selling nearly as well.
Anyways, I did a ton of paraphrasing, but the author made some very interesting points. Don't expect hybrids in their current form to ever take off.
My memory could be (no, certainly is) shot these days, but I seem to remember the USSR launching an unmanned craft that looked almost identical to the space shuttle. I think they abandonded the entire program.
Anyone care to elaborate?
I was part of a program where compaq gave hundreds of free computers to low income families. I set up classes and taught the families all the basics.
Within months almost all of the computers had been sold to a nearby pawn shop.
I'm not making a social commentary, these are just the facts.
And the fact that the over 15,000 pieces of debris that hit the shuttle on the previous 113 flights didn't cause any problems 112 of those 113 times. You might say once is too many, but we're only finding issues here because we're looking so hard.
I couldn't agree more! That was the first thing to pop in my mind when I saw all the new angles. I mean, I am sure the old shuttles were inspected upon landing, but who knew when and how the damage was occuring.
People have lost the perspective that space flight is a dangerous business. NASA knows it. The astronauts know it. But the mass media apparently has forgotten it. So media outlets are trying to portray NASA as this group of cowboys and rocket scientists that is just hap-hazardly going about launching a shuttle.
I happen to think NASA has a pretty darned good safety record if you log miles traveled versus casualties.
WOW. An a instead of an o. How dare I? Don't you think complete ignorance is a bit of a harsh term? I mean, I knew there were...oh never mind. Just go eat dinner with your mom.
How is the safety record for the Soyuz? If an accident winds up with some astronauts dying can you image the media $hit storm?
"Raspberry. There's only one man who would dare give me the raspberry: Lone Star!"
Holes! I need holes!
is all over this!
errr..turn your sarcasm detector back on please.
a 3 million dollar overhead projector...oh wait...you mean there are other kinds of projectors?
Just read an article that video game sales in the US were up something like 53%...someone is doing something right trade show or not.
And now apple wants to take over the living room by shipping macs without a TV tuner standard.

My thoughts exactly. When I loaded up base.google.com the first thing I thought was, Wow...they have stretched themselves just a little too thin.

Because advertisers pay to send paper junkmail, about $.20 per mail.
Good point.

Am I the only one who thought I was having a flashback to the old Saturday Morning cartoon lessons?

If my aunt had testicles, she'd be my uncle.
That should sum this article up.

Don't the Klingons have a device like that? Or is the Romulons? I always get those -ons confused.
Dont forget the girl selling maps to the stars in the original Bad News Bears (haven't seen the remake)
I think Google might owe her some royalties.
