I would've loved it if they went with a,b,c,x,y,z, AND had four shoulder buttons (meh, 2 buttons, 2 triggers). I think fighting games would've really benefited from the six face buttons and just about every other game could use two more easy-to-access buttons.
Hens and roosters... funny you mention that because Rooster Teeth Productions' Red vs Blue videos will be available for download (for free, I believe) through the marketplace.
Because this is a marketplace, you'll open it up to anyone who wishes to buy or sell, right? Oh.
Actually, I recall MS representatives were ecxited and quick to note that user-created content could be sold from player to player in Xbox Live's Marketplace. So... what was your point again?
Halo was mostly done in a little over a year. Work on Halo 2 was nearly reset at about the time the E3 2003 video was shown. And those were with fewer resources than are likely being made available for Halo 3.
Factor in the fact that the PS3 will possibly be delayed until 2007 (Sony never gave a firm US date, and who's to say it won't also be delayed in Japan?) and a Halo 3 release date that coincides with the PS3's is entirely possible and to the optimist, even likely.
It's $5 a month. And you're saying the comprehensive network across all games (meaning that no game's network should ever go down because MS is hosting the service) isn't worth that price because you can't use a hacked machine? If you're so intent on cheating, there are still ways to level the playing field, if that's what you want to call it.
The only thing I disagree with here (before I trailed off and clicked Reply) is that people seem to think that Nintendo has decided to stop compteting for the "top spot" of the console wars or that they've abandoned the hordcore/traditional gamer.
No, the only thing Nintendo has abandoned or stopped doing is playing Sony's game. They're going for the same market and more and they have their sights set on the #1 spot, only they're going after it from a different angle. I think it's refreshing to see Nintendo thinking up a completely new and original mentality to use in approaching the next generation of consoles to match with whatever new and original content they come up with this time around that the other guys will no doubt copy next time around.
Epic isn't exactly your average developer. They have significantly more resources than other publishers may be willing to grant smaller developers working on other games.
And any word on how long the code that was ported took to create? It was what, a single level with two or three character models? Three weeks plus whatever it took to get there from scratch, and factor in the fact that Epic could work significantly faster than other developers while working with its own tools and closely with Sony (because you know they wanted that demo running smoothly and were gonna help Epic out however they could) so the time it would take another developer to do the same thing just might scream "development difficulty."
It's funny that you say that most slashdotters are smart enough to see through MS's bullshit because it seems that they're not smart enough to see through Sony's.
Why would somebody who cares about console gaming support the Playstation brand first? Kutaragi doesn't care about the console market/industry, and he's even gone out of his way to distinguish the brand as NOT a gaming brand. Even since the Playstation, it's never been a gaming machine. So MS is trying to take over the living room and so is Sony, they're both evil as far as I'm concerned. But at least MS marketed a console its first time around. I don't have much of a point, just trying to remind you that while you're so busy hating MS, it'd be wise to open your eyes and see what Sony has planned for console gaming. That is... if you care.
The part that people seem to think Nintendo is exclusively marketing. Casual gamers that will be more appealed by the novelty of controlling a game with their motions and gestures instead of with their thumbs.
Though MS has said that they want tha same market, and I'm not so sure Nintendo isn't going after hardcore gamers here. I'm really intrigued by the possibilities this controller presents so waiting seems like the only smart thing we can do.
No, because he's a really good kid and the entire family was shocked or is currently unaware that he even gets in trouble at all in school. Bullying isn't in his nature, he's always been hyperactive and being bigger than other kids doesn't help, but neither did associating violence with play growing up.
It's a shame that you posted anonymously because you deserve Insightful mods for that.
I can't help but wish politician were smarter because the whole violent game issue has extremely valid points on both sides. I'm a huge supporter of seeing video games as an art form, and at the very least as a vessel for freedom of speech, and in that sense I feel that any developer should be able to make and responsibly market any game to a reasonable market without any legal issues. But at the same time, it's petty for gamers to say that violent games don't make kids violent. Just like football and other competetive (especially contact sports in general), (violent) games can make kids more aggressive and violent themselves. I know this because they've affected me, flat out. I grew up fantasizing that every random place I was going to in real life was a bloody battlefield and was fascinated at the thought of how I would do in the situation of the main characters I play as in war games.
Am I violent? No, despite growing up playing roller hockey (ice hockey players are encouraged to go for more hits so I don't know if I'd be different if I was born in Michigan rather than Florida) competetively and seeing war and violence glorified, I was always able to somewhat keep myself in check and remind myself that games are games and real life is real life. My cousin, on the other hand, between growing up wrestling us (his cousins, older than him by five years) and playing violent games is a serious bully at school, and whenever he sees an ad for a game with guns his instant reaction is "that game looks awesome!"
The point that parents should decide what their kids can and can't handle doesn't refute the fact that there are kids who can be profoundly affected by games that encourage you to kill (I'm not blaming anything for Columbine or anything like that, just wrapping things up). Yes, parents should raise their kids, but what's the difference between banning violent games from kids and banning cigarettes from kids? Both are the parent's responsibility (one is significantly easier to acquire... but you get my point), and both can be harmful. The problem I see right now though, is that it seems they're trying to ban mature games from kids under all circumstances, even if parents think their kids can handle it. I can't say I agree with either or neither side here, but gamers who so adamantly defend games in light of these posts are just as bad as the politicians, imho.
He's rockin' the virtual keyboard on a Dreamcast!

Oh well, everybody else likes it.
Reply to the post and ask /. what to do, like you'd ever get a reasonable response...
Anyway, I vote for "Give me all of your money."
They're compatible with PC games, too.
Not to suggest you give up the mouse and keyboard... but it's an idea if anybody still plays platformers or sports games on the PC anymore.

I said mostly. The game was redone and redone and so much was scrapped that the main work was done in the last year or so.
I feel it's almost guaranteed that the price cut will happen either at or shortly before the PS3's launch.
The possibility is that MS could bundle Halo 3 with an HD-DVD drive or even a BluRay drive if HD-DVD remains as dead as it is right now...

Sure, for the campaign... but I still play it on Xbox Live, how is that anything but replay value?

There's humor in the contiued absurdity, but not insight.
I love what gets deemed as insightful here. This'll be a good one for the meta mods.
Seriously. I don't remember the first time I saw the term "launch window" used, but I do remember that it pissed me off.
Oh well, I'm sure they're both great games but I have enough on my plate that I've been neglecting for far too long.
Ico wasn't a launch title.
Your mirror...

Dreamcast = plagued by piracy, no support from EA, preceeded by Saturn (Saturn's success != Xbox's success) PS2 = too much hype, not enough delivered
Spin it however you want, but I think the next generation really should be a close one.

The best part about that is that it was modded insightful rather than funny.
Guess it's news to some people that sex is fun...
