The reason I didn't get a G3 was mainly because 20% of the view finder was obstructed by the portruding center lense. Canon admitted this as a design flaw.
The fact is that your kid may [or may not] accel in an independant learning based environment.
If you do plan to home school, then you are going to sacrifice any sort of understanding your child has when it comes to dealing with people. By this, I mean understanding how certain individuals, regimes and regulations can be oppressive (as evidenced by somme administrative faculties). What better place can you learn about this? Once he finds that certain notions set forth by other s don't sound right, he'll begin to formulate his own opinions. That is to say, he will have an active and engaging mind, rather than being a rebel or oppositely, a dull, droning student.
Students who are pushed through a grueling public education will have to learn how to put up with, accept, understand, or reject a diverse spectrum of social groups and ideas. I found being in a high school environment in itself stimulating and helpful with examining philosophies and developing your own character whatever it may be -- which needless to say -- is absolutely essential at that young of an age. It's possible that in the end of your childs education he might outperform his peers scholastically [again he may not] but theres a little bit more to intelligence than doing well in school........
I just graduated a couple months ago from a less-than-stellar high school, and spent quite a bit of time reflecting back on my stint there. I was thinking how little my texts have taught me about life, society and the process of thinking independantly. Being in a public school environment made me or more accurately forced me to learn/experience certain non-academic things, some of which weren't enjoyable at all.
just adding some perspective. i'm not trying to tell you how to raise your kids.
Cheers, Columbine Dropout (and no, this is just a nickname)
Hehe I can sympathize. A while ago packetloss was a major issue with Rogers here in British Columbia. I'm talking about enough loss to get dropped from games a few minutes in. This persisted for quite a few months until rogers got their act together.
i'm glad that i signed on with telus from the beginning.
I'm sure you have fond memories of them now, but once you really get into them again you'll find that they're not nearly as exciting as you remembered them to be. I grew up with quake/c&c/warcraft ii and I'm almost certain that playing MY classics out of nostalgia ten years down the road will ruin everything my youthful imagination perceived about em at the time. I think the magnitude games impact really are dependant on your age level. Agreed there are some games that are timeless. But I'm not nearly gonna get a kick out of textbased simming now as much as I used to. You can't really complain about stuff being new fangled now. I'm sure there are still kids whose creativity and intellect are being catalyzed by games just as greatly as before
Vancouverite here.
The only dominant retailer of computer games here in BC is Electronics Boutique. They specialize in console games, computer games and... toys, surprisingly. At my local store, almost 1/4 of the floor is covered with action figures and yes, pikachus. There is the standard seperation of video games such as the new from the old, but no system that seems to be influenced by an accredited rating system. I can buy plenty of games that are rated for Mature Audiences and they won't bother carding me (i'm under 18).
Truthfully, I don't think any of this will materialize. Censorship was never really a hot issue in this province... like, to my knowledge, libraries use filtering software on their own accord.
Heya, UBC Engineering student here (well after summer that is)
The VW bug isn't the only thing that brings them fame =)
A while ago, UBC students advertised an artshow, they painted several sculptures for display and after the folks came to see the art, some engineers leapt out of the bushes and smashed the artwork into pieces. Needless to say, the guests were petrified.
Oh and of course, the lady godiva thing. Back in the 60's/70's the graduating class would hire a naked stripper and have her parade around campus naked on a horse. They stopped doing that now unfortunately.
A few of my buddies at UBC engineering were ecstatic when they told me about what the engineers did. They didn't know who did it though, I guess that's why those types of pranks have been pulled off almost yearly for 20 years. It's not about individual pride at all.
"The codec seems to require at least a P2 to view the movie at an acceptable frame rate."
My friend's P166 viewed the Star Wars trailers just fine.
"Sorenson is nice quality: if you have win32, Apple's quicktime garbage, and a p2-500."
You are exaggerating matters here, you don't need a p2-500. I don't think low-end machines are apple's target here. Indeed performance is not apple's main concern. They strictly want to provide a high quality, strong video format here, not cater to those who can't run it. You should think twice before burning quicktime. In a way you're like flaming quake 3 because you can't run it with a P100;)
Confusion between the "old" and the "new"
on
Geeks vs. Nerds
·
· Score: 1
I think both terms have gotten old. Stereotypes have clouded everything in the past. You know, the standard suspenders with collared shirt equipped with a calculator in the left pocket. What I'm trying to get at is that some of us (especially the younger/. users) are techinically social rejects indeed, but we lack the classical aspects of the the "geek" during the 60's, 70's or even 80's time period. The existance of intelligent life is not determined by the way you dress anymore. I personally conform to the established conformity protocol at our school yet I am still filed out from everyone and labelled on the forehead. High-pitched voices, severe acne, crackling voices aren't in a checklist that classifies you as a high school geek. It's the people you choose to associate with, what you discuss at lunchtime and what people perceive your intellect to be like.
My school (I just turned 16) has a severe lack of competent individuals. We witness alot of issues that we smirk at like the submission propaganda posted around our school, administrators telling us to pick up our garbage even though we weren't finished eating our food and if any geek were to show violent behavior, it would be grounds for mental probing. Okay i'm getting off-topic, but what I'm trying to add here is that, if you really want to call the new brand of intellectuals geeks then I suppose the end result would be the mutatation of the word "geek" or "nerd."
A decade ago I bet you could tell a geek from a non-geek just by looking at the individual, its not so apparent anymore.
Excuse me? What gives you the credentials to assume that I know nothing about the trauma the Taiwanese are going through right now? You criticize me for being a 'very narrow minded' person, in fact, you solely base it on my age. My age means nothing, I don't need to be patronized by being told that/I/ will understand when I get older. I regret even mentioning my age.
About that humour thing. Lemme tell a few jokes at your relative's funeral, I'm sure that will make everyone happy! The humor most people used in this incident was a mocking, heartless humour. It certainly wasn't the nice good ol' "good times" humour.
People who turn these things into humour distort what they fundamentally are.. AND what they made it to be is something for us to laugh at the expense of other's and their misery.
Forgive me for not laughing when folks are dying out there alright?
Is it just me or is the geek culture in general becoming less sensitive towards human life? Is our logic and reasoning blinding us to a point that we don't value other's lives anymore?/OR/ do we modify logic so it suits our own needs and wants and still call it 'logic.'
Our geek refined superiority complex and machoism has gotten in the way of what is RIGHT and what is WRONG.
Any lives lost is wrong and how most of you can turn this into humor or justify it by hardware price increases is disgusting. You people are morally disgusting. I'm sure none of you would like to see your friends or family with a several ton brick crushing them while they slowly bleed to death when rescue teams classify their situation as secondary to the kid with a steal bar lodged in his chest.
"Oh no! Look mother isn't going to make those spectacular cookies anymore!"
Being 15 years old I'm glad I still have some compassion left inside of me. I can't think of what will happen to me when I turn older.
IP spoofing is a myth. It can be done on a lan, but the laws of tcp/ip simply forbids it on the net. This is probably fake information the aussie government put out to get the media all rowdy. Clearly the government is furthering their attempts censor the net. How far will they go? Then again it could be real and some idiot government hired script kiddie forgot to cover their tracks.
I own a Powershot G2.

If you only use the LCD, then that's fine.
I can laugh or I can cry at that remark.... =)
ah yes, very eclectic:
