While I'm sure they'll market it to the advertisers as something they could do, they will still face the basic problem with targeting ads that is already faced even when the user knowingly submits information on themselves in a computer-friendly format:
1 - It will still be seen as noise on the screen and not even noticed most of the time
2 - It will still not cause people to actually spend money even when they do see it
3 - It will still only be as targeted as "male -> sell viagra", which is where they've been since the 90s
The biggest lie that advertising ever sold was the idea that advertising even works.
Yeah maths does really work that way. If that chip does 2 MIPS and you add 50% more speed then it will end up with 3 MIPS. That's a one third increase, not a half.
The fact you just said that proves you don't know anything about any government except the US government, and you probably don't know much about how that works either.
Seriously, join civilisation. Things work way better when a country cooperates.
Bullshit. This may affect a small number of people's choices, but take a look outside at all the SUVs less than 10 years old driving down the street. Those people can afford to pay double the price of a normal car AND double the price to run it for the lifetime of the vehicle.
Of course there's a rational reason. You're just one of these people stupid enough to think it's about trying to make one day longer each year to increase productivity or something.
And what is someone going to do with that information? As I've asked elsewhere in these comments, what is the value of that information? I couldn't give a fuck if you knew every single one of those things about me, I don't care who else you tell, and it certainly isn't going to help you sell me anything or get money out of me in any other way.
"We have no idea what the REAL value of our personal information is."
Shhhh! Don't give it away. The big secret is, all this data is worth nothing. People don't run out and buy things they weren't already going to buy just because they got shown the perfect ad at the perfect time, and when you consider that most of the time you get a semi-related ad for something you're not currently actively in the market for, then the effectiveness of using all this data goes down a huge amount.
Just let them keep giving us free stuff until their business model implodes, then we can go back to the way things used to be.

The problem was that they brought in a UI designer, and those guys can fuck up just about anything.
It truly was the betamax of CPU architectures. Imagine what it would be like now with heaps of nice wide registers. Those were the days. :-(

LOL a la carte as in you get to choose what you want. And $8 a month to get to choose what you want is a "massive bundle"?
Enjoy waiting for your TV utopia.
I'm watching it. I see nothing that isn't explained by science.
Wow that's almost as many as Windows 95!
There's no debate about whether you can have morality without God. The only people saying that are the ultra religious.
Hahaha!
They don't.

They used to have these doors where the window was surrounded by actual door. Those worked well.
He said Windows, so he's obviously not interested in that aspect.
Ahhh yes, the "my army is better than yours because I say so" argument. Well, I'm convinced!
It always cracks me up when people characterise government like this but are also violently opposed to socialism.
The American way of brainwashing citizens into thinking they understand freedom better than everyone else is astonishing to behold.
Hmmm so overcompensating in a misguided attempt to defend somebody's rights is worse than openly and maliciously trying to take them away.
I hope that rationalisation helps you sleep at night.
Yeah but it's not really suicide when your toddler shoots you with the Uzi you gave them for school.
Please tell me there aren't still people stupid enough to believe this is what DST is for... [keeps scrolling down] [facepalm]
I bet you every single one of those effects would go away if you stopped railing against the idea of changing your clocks and just fucking did it.
And clearly you aren't forced to go outside for work, or some fresh air might have woken your brain up a little more.

AMD will still be making chips long after x86 is forgotten. Just like they were long before it was invented.
