    I was merely making the point that someone HAS made a free codec and given it away for free. (hence why I quoted that passage)

    and btw, I wouldn't buy an "mp3" player that doesn't support ogg. What good is a portable media player that can't play my music collection? I got sick of dealing with mp3's a long time ago. You can start laughing now.

    I believe you've missed the point. It's not the justification (improve writing style or having fun) that matters. It's that a company is needlessly alientating their audience by sending cease-and-desist letters to these girls. That's the real point. Whether the company is within their legal rights is another completely irrelevant point.

    You, sir, are part of the mass of people here who don't understand the purpose for backslash. I'd give you a couple, but I don't want to be modded redundant. What I don't understand is why you're in the comments section of this article.

    And just so you know, I'm here because comments to backslashes tend to be more interesting than the knee-jerk reactions from the previous day.

    There are people who choose the best tool. There are also people who choose freedom, period. I used to think I was one of the latter, but now I'm not so sure.

    For the linux fanboys (like me), here's the question to let you decide.

    If the positions were reversed, gnu/linux was proprietary and windows was free, which would you choose? I don't know if I could deal with windows.

    My idealism, slips away...

    Student loans tend to have an insanely low interest rate.

    There is no reason to pay them off any faster than required, even if you have the money.

    If you don't wnat to be shackled by it, you should try to have enough money to pay it off whenever you want,
    but that doesn't mean you should, pay it off.

    Are you really splitting hairs over mean and median?

    The word average, btw is a fuzzy term which could stand for any of a number of ways of calculating a representative value for a data set. But I'm sure you learned all about means, medians, and modes, in your elementary statistics course.

    There's more probability of that if the graphics automatically upgrade on new hardware. It would make the graphics less of a selling point.

    well, I add compression onto the forwarding implied throught the via flag by adding

    export VNC_VIA_CMD='/usr/bin/ssh -f -o Compression=yes -L "%L":"%H":"%R" "%G" sleep 20'

    to my bashrc.
    It doesn't get much easier than that, well unless you're allergic to the command line.

    yeah...that's more or less what happened to me. They did a routine player wipe before introducing a bunch of new features in the MUD I was playing. I got pissed off enough to quit. It worked for me, but I wouldn't recommend it in general. I don't really think I could have been classified as addicted (though it did consume me for about a semester).
