  1. Re:Pittsburgh sucks (Was:I wish...) on Tech Workers in Higher Demand · · Score: 1

I had replied above since all of the responses to my post are: MOVE!!!Eleventy11

The thing is I am not in a position to move, I have a number of ties that I cannot break to move where better opportunities abound. The other main issue I rose was the PA "stay, invent PA" campaign. Not me, but a number of my classmates took advantage of this program which helped pay for some of their college in return for staying for a set number of years and working in PA. They are now hurting because of this and do not have the option to move at all unless they want to be strapped with some nicely sized bills coming their way instantly. We have discussed this a couple times, and honestly I can't decide if the program was a scam to nail college grads for all the funding plus interest to line some politicians pocket or if it was a genuine effort to retain talent.

Beyond the outside factors not allowing me to pull up and move, I truly would like to make a difference and use my skills and talents here in Pittsburgh. I know that sounds pie-in-the-sky, but it is the truth. If everyone turns tail and runs, it will be a ghost town and continue to decline. I wasn't trying to come off as a woe-is-me story and whining about my situation, just stating the facts and how there is some serious issues to be faced in other areas of the country like the 'Burgh. I'd like to see the Pen's stay, I'd like to see this city revitalized, I'd like to remain here and raise my family here, who knows in the end I may have to move but for now I am making an effort to stay. It's my situation and decision and I don't *blame* anyone in this, just wanted to show how bad it could be in other cities.

You made it out to be like the revo controller couldn't work with LCD's or that it *might* not, I was just clearing that up. It is totally not dependant on your TV at all, it is all based around three sensors and the internal sensors in the controller.

This controller is one of those pieces of technology that is best spoken about once you have held it and used it. It is even hard to talk about it with people who work in the gameing industry that haven't used it, the feel and fluidity are not easily written or spoken. I think a lot of people who *think* that they know how crappy or lame it will be are in for a big surprise.

All i was saying is that Nintendo is quite competent enough to make sure the console works on any and all technologies out there today. Just because it isn't pushing massive HD resolutions doesn;t mean it is a big lump of crap relegated to 1980's technology.

Not me personally, I have my own reasons that I cannot leave, but there are many that fit the above category and are in bad situations.

Actually a lot of us have used the controller on a modified Gamecube playing Metroid Prime (an FPS) in NYC when Nintendo was demoing the controller. It was as intuitive, fluid, and immersive of an experience as I have ever had. The controller setup takes about 2 minutes to get used to and then it is like a long-lost friend. I had expected it to be a much steeper learning curve, and that is saying something since it was beta hardware running on a modified GC. It can only get better.

Your assumptions about "target painting" are incorrect. The Revo controller will work with all manner of TV, CRT/LCD/Plasma/etc. because it utilizes sensors. This is not some cheesy light gun/scanline technology. In fact when I had the chance to demo the Revo controller it was on an LCD. Nintendo has stated a number of times that they have not shown the sensor system yet because it is not finalized and is to bulky in its current state. It was indeed a largish contraption strapped to the TV, and I have no doubts that Nintendo has made it sleek and unobtrusive and will reveal it when it is complete as they have said all along.

Aha! Tough one. Not to mention it *clearly states* that it is not on rail in the article... but who has time to read shit before flying off half-cocked and stating Red Steel is the next Duck Hunt.

The Revolution is the first console in 10 years to even make me stop and notice. Something new and different awaits us, and the MS/Sony fanboi's just can't stand to think that maybe, just maybe, the days of cliche, tired, overextended genres may be coming closer to being over. I'm actually upset that the first published game is an FPS, since it is not revolutionary in the least... I will say though that the controller is made for FPS games. The control is intuitive and slick, Metroid Prime was being demoed originally and it was pure heaven to play with the controller. My only actually anticipated sequel would be to Luigi's Mansion, if ever there was a perfect setup for the Revo that is it.

I'm most interested in seeing the truly new and 100% original content, that is where the Revo will begin to steal some thunder. Can we stop jumping to conclusions and trying to diss the Revo until we actually know even slightly substantiated rumors?

Try for a minute to put this in perspective. Let's take something American... a hotdog. and a Japanese company all of a sudden wants to start selling hotdogs in the U.S. and become #1. First-off the well-entrenched brands are going to have a large advantage to begin with just from a brand recognition standpoint alone. So the Japanese company would do something special to gain popularity, and most people would just see it as a gimmick and pay no attention, a few would bite. Out of those few a majority will just go back to their usual favorite in time, and only a small fraction will stick with it. And even then there will be flops like teriaki hotdogs, or bonito hotdogs in attempts to translate local favorites abroad. It isn't some radical sense of nationalism like so many claim, it is just normal consumer behavior.

SUV == poor visibility, handling, braking, distractions

Normal passenger vehicle == better visibility, handling, braking, and parents are physically closer to children to help minimize distraction.

How can any sane person argue with that. Yes, an accident that would happen in an SUV could most likely be attributed to one of those above issues and would have been avoided had the same encounter happened in a regular car. There will always be accidents regardless of vehicle type, but the type and frequency of accidents varies by type. How many kids have been accidentally backed over in a 2-door coupe? How many in a large SUV?

How about rollover protection, SUV's are tested on a much less stringent "truck class" scale while cars are held to a higher standard. Suddenly that 4-star rating on the SUV doesn't mean very much in comparison to a car... but advertisers wouldn't have you know that. "best in class" and such statements are accepted as gospel and not investigated farther.

Again, believe what you will... I'm not going to change your mind... but please share with me some insight of your own since you are such an authority that you can dismiss my statements. Go ahead, I'll wait.

Merging, quick get-up-and-go, etc. is needed but a 6-cyl can produce plenty enough for all situations that would arise on normal roads.

I made it quite clear that my comments are not based on politics at all but my *OWN* brain. I drive a large commute daily with more travel involved in my job, I spend a lot of time on our roadways. SUV's are much too large for many drivers of them, they are bulky, handle poorly, brake poorly, have terrible safety in roll situations since they are classified and tested with the low "truck" criteria, and are bastions of distraction with DVD players, kids seated so far away from the driver that interaction requires complete removal from driving, the propensity for cell phone useage on top of those other factors DOES INDEED MAKE THEM LESS SAFE ON THE ROAD.

Now place that same person in a normal sedan, the overall safety/handling/visibility/braking is much improved right off the bat. The children are closer and easily viewed or dealt with. Also the driver is more "mortal" meaning more care needs to be taken because they are not riding by above 75% of the traffic. I guarantee that a large number of accidents in SUV's would not happen otherwise.

I see them with my own eyes on a daily basis. There are a number of morons and accidents in regular cars, don't get me wrong... but they are of a different type for the most part.

Believe what you will, unless you travel some strange alternate universe roads than the ones I drive on the proof is right before you.
