All my American friends and I love bashing the US! My history teacher bashes every president we've had, and he's as American as you get. (Today we proved that Lincoln was as close to a dictator as we've ever had in the US and might have possibly saved the entire 20th century) I think everyone can bash their own country, and most are OK about others poking fun at them, but some people just have no sense of humor, like some Americans I know.

(I am ONLY playing devil's advocate. A 'War on Terror' will never be won, but that doesn't make it worthless. We'll never win the War on Drugs, so why try if you use that logic?)

I personally lean towards the Republican side more often and not, and I am ashamed at the PATRIOT ACT. Whatever happened to the principle of minimal government interference in the lives of its people? I'm sure they are trying to do what is best, that I never doubt for most people (I think all Democrats and others with whom I disagree still want the best for America). I just know that their judgement is sorely lacking.

The USSR murdered at least 15 million undere Stalin, and have you forgot about all of the terror run regimes in Africa? Those are by no means capitalist either. Of course you could bring up General Pinochet, but while a free marketeer he did not reign over a free people.

  18. An issue of points of view on Could Linux Still Go GPL3? · · Score: 4, Interesting

All of the controversy over the GPL3 isnt so much caused by the details, but by the underlying mentalities. RMS is more of the belief that freedom is a necessity and everyone should do everything in an open, free manner, and that people can't be trusted. Torvalds sees freedom as more of a tool, a bonus, and people/businesses are generally trustworthy. I like to think of it that way, and that is why I prefer BSD/MIT style over other licences. Businesses will always make proprietary software, that won't change. Proprietary isn't bad, and prohibiting it only restricts what the user/developer can do.
