  1. Re:Sad truths about data compression. on New 25x Data Compression? · · Score: 1

Did you miss the bit about this being temporal compression? As in each version of a back up is has redundant data removed from the file and points back to a previous version that already contains that data. Sounds good to me when in my industry we have TB's a data back up everyday that are often redundant to the previous days files at many levels. So I have back up and a redundant back up everyday for a given project. Now Tuesday's backup will take up WAY less space because it can point to Monday's back up for all the files that have not really changed. I would have to look into this more but that sounds pretty fucking good to me for the types of data back up my industry uses. (lots of back ups during the job then at the end only the final work needs to be archived.)

Its so obviously a troll to ask that the information be provided in a manner that doesn't take 2 hours of reading just to get the basic knowledge that could be provided in a few minutes with a comparison chart. The reason one of the companies I was working for would not switch to OOo was that the Head of IT. A guy in his 50's did not believe that OOo could do everything we needed and be compatible with the people that he said Had to use MS ofiice. I tried to find a nice quick comparison chart or list of feature to show him. Couldn't do it. So we dropped for 10 seats of MS Office for us artist to beable to do nothing more then open office files and read them. JUST TO READ THEM because I could not find a feature chart for OOo. Yes that is for sure a troll to ask for the tool necessary to get people to pay attention to OOo. Nice. funny the confirm word is strangle. Very appropriate.

Well This stuff is not so easy to find unless you really know what you are looking for. I barley have time to learn and keep up with graphics packages I have to know. I really think there should like a beginners guild to OOo. I mean this page has so many links that I just go never mind when I see it. http://www.openoffice.org/about_us/new.html I would like to see something like a side by side comparison with little check boxes like you get when you are buying a new cell phone or laptop. You know like the comparison pages on any wireless provider has for there phones. http://onlinestorez.cingular.com/cell-phone-servic e/cell-phones/cell-phones.jsp?v=1&q_categoryId=171 7200027&WT.svl=com2&q_compareIds=%22cdsku9870076re g3%22%2C%22cdsku9870089%22 It might seem really simplistic but UH it should be. Then you can have all the techie wordy long ass description once I know what it does and doesn't do and I want to know more about what it does do.

Well Since I just do not know this AT ALL. I work at places where at times (I am a commercial artist) where I have to use MS Office. Most of the time these places have all kinds of macros set up to do given tasks. MANY MANY MANY Macros because of the freelance pool they use they just want the macro's to take care of all heavy lifting so that people don't have to try and figure out how to input data for a week before you get it right. Anyway the question is. How can these be implemented into Open Office.? Also templates templates templates. Its great the MS comes with them and I just use them NeoOffice on my Mac. But if you don't own MS office where do you get all those templates? Some one needs to set up a source forge project of something like it that is just a repository for templates for OOo. OK why is the little o included in the name? Its just Open Office. OOo is a website that Has OO. I don't get it.

Today, everyone has monstrous high quality televisions and sound systems that are in most cases better than many movie theatres. Why should someone pay $80 for a family of four to see a movie if they can buy/rent a cheap DVD to play on their home theatre system that they have so much invested in?,

WOW what reality to do you live in? Most people DO NOT have Monstrous high quality TVs. The problem is that the people that don't have those TV are also the people that can not afford to go to the movie theatre either. So the DVD they will probably rent to play in there $35 APEX DVD player hooked up to there $99 goldstar TV. So I agree with your point to some extent but most people do not have kick ass electronics. It is those people that will more likely wait for the DVD.

WHAT? Hello. 2 million people watch Battlestar gallactica. Thats it. So the cost just to produce the show is $1million dollars per episode. Of your $50 sci-fi gets at the MOST 25 cents. (50 / 100 channels for basic cable and comcast probably takes 1/2 so 50 cents a channel) Then Sci-fi takes some of that money for its share of the profit and lets be generous and say they only take 10 cents of that. So the show is getting 15 cents per person watching. ( This number is lame because you probably watch more then one sci-fi show if you watch the sci-fi channel but you still only pay the 25 cents) so .15 x 2,000,000 = $300,000 Hmm we seem to be a little short of the cost of putting the show on the air. What is your solution? Please tell me.

Well if you think your $50 a month to comcast et al pays the channels enough money to produce shows Like BattleStar Galactica or even shows on Discovery and History you are on Crack. I think I read somewhere that Battlestar galactica cost like an average of $1 million and episode to produce. So why are you ok with ads from google to get free but not to get TV? (and please don't tell me targeting ads. TV can't do that yet. but I bet its coming. but that means crappy ads too because you can't make ads with the production value ads have right now. Maybe people won't mind if its the exact information they want or maybe people will mind because they are used to seeing ads that cost half million + to produce.

ON top of all that there is usually several hours of post production work done on ALL 3d renders by the compositors.

Here is a simple tutorial on how a simple multipass render is actually complete for broadcast or feature work. I think it will explain why you are never going to get this out of a grapics card.
