So a handful of bad neighbors somehow justifies the massive security apparatus of the state... no matter how effective it is? Moreover, you're willing to force me to pay for your security, when I don't fear any of my neighbors? You don't see anything wrong with this?
No matter what they seem to claim, the state cannot protect us. One of the main justifications of the state's existence, security, falls flat on its face every time. When it comes right down to it, bureaucrats are very poor at what they are supposed to be doing.
And I'm a slashdot reader and professional geek. I follow basketball, baseball, and football. I might even watch some of the USA team basketball games, just to see LeBron James play. Suck on that, editors!
that is the lamest excuse I've ever heard. How about they fire all 200,000 workers instead? CA could finally be on the track of having a reasonable budget.
If I was an investor in Amazon, I would be upset that they are not releasing any numbers. I would certainly no longer hold a position in them. It looks pretty small when you think about how many devices Apple and Nintendo are selling.
I would have to disagree. The state barely (if at all) does an adequate job of maintaining roads. My recent blog post describes more of how I feel about it:
You almost have it. It's not that license plates should never have been designed. It's that the state never should be granted the coercive monopoly power of vehicle registration. Forced state license registration is purely for revenue purposes.
Sure, you own the phone, but the app store belongs to apple. Apple is free to restrict whatever applications they want. You are also free to point out that you don't like their policy and try to convince people not to buy it.

yeah, those terrible anti-government people. If only we could get rid of them, NASA would be a huge success!
Private funding of commercial space flight is the only way you will see substantial improvement in space exploration.

if you want NASA to have more money, please feel free to donate your own cash. I want no part of it. Don't force others to fund your desires.
Thanks for the response. Like you said, ultimately it relies on faith. There is no hard evidence to prove that Jesus died for your sins. Also, plenty of other people besides Christians have died for what they believe in, whatever that may be. Interesting discussion for sure though.
I already have a great phone, the Virgin Mobile super slice. It costs me $27/month. It's very thin and I'm happy to carry that around with an ipod Touch rather than pay ATT $70/month.
My company provided me with a T60 for work, and I love it. I never used to like Thinkpads at all but I am a convert now. Very nice machine. I was also debating for quite awhile whether to get a n810 or an ipod Touch. I had an n800 for a few months but ultimately chose to return it because it wouldn't connect to the wifi at work. Also, installing apps from different repositories could be quite a pain. The app store is much simpler, and I didn't buy a touch until they Apple announced it. I new there would be a huge market for new apps on the touch. There are still things that really bother me about the touch, but I am generally happy with it. Much happier than I was with the n800. And it fits in my pocket nicer too.
The only original Bible is the one the original Hebrews/ early Christians used which we don't have today... from these thousands of copies we can compare our current Bible to and know that what we have today agrees with what was circulated in the time period of Jesus' death.
But it doesn't matter how many copies there are. There is still no way of knowing what the original text said.

I remember hearing somewhere that the earliest portions of the original text weren't written till something like 100 years after Jesus. Not sure if this is true or not...
The oldest surviving complete version of the bible is a copy of a copy of a... 400 years after the events, and you claim it is 99.5% accurate? Even though you don't have any earlier versions? I just don't understand how that can be possible.
Hmm, so using gold as currency means we won't have banking services? Or that we'll either be poor like Argentina or stuck in a MadMax scenario? Gotcha.
I was on $15/768 down with Time Warner for quite awhile. Normal surfing and even skype worked quite nicely on it. YouTube was a bit slow downloading sometimes, but no biggie. Now I'm back up to 1.5mbps for like $25. Figured I would try it to see if there was much of a difference. Might as well just go back...
Why do we allow our government this power to begin with? Immunity wouldn't be an issue if they weren't spying on us in the first place. Let's place the true blame where it should be - on congress, not the private companies.

I have a HD antenna and use OTA exclusively for tv viewing. Watching nature programs on PBS with that kind of quality picture never gets old.
If there are any other programs I want to watch, I just download the HD version from a torrent site.
I would guess that consequences of the State isn't the reason most people don't kill their neighbors.

I suppose that's better than calling for "creative government".
Toll roads could easily be part of a voluntary (non government) solution.

What do you mean, eGold works with bogus money? How is US currency "real money" any more than using gold as money?
very informative... just installed it, thanks for posting.

They executive branch was using legislation like the original FISA, passed by congress, to justify their spying.
