That kind of thing isn't even new for CSI. Back when the Dreamcast launched, Nick and Warrick on the original CSI started talking about how realistic the graphics were in NFL2K. Granted, it wasn't exactly out of character for them to talk about that sort of thing, but still, not exactly subtle.

I'm not normally one to nitpick, but Plymouth and DeSoto were seperate brands aimed at different markets. They were both owned by Chrysler, though.

The technology is there. Bittorrent would work great for this sort of distribution and it would offset the cost for the distributor. Provide a VCD image of the episode in question so it can be burned and watched in most DVD players, and with the high number of people wanting to watch it and a half-decent connection, you wouldn't have to wait long to get it. Hell, they could even leave in the ads to help pay for the show. Sure some people would skip them, but it's not really all that different from what people do now with Tivo. The only real problem there is that broadband has not yet reached significant penetration in the U.S. The number of people still using dialup is staggering, and as long as that's the case we'll never see a distribution model like this in North America.

There is actually a gene named after Sonic the hedgehoge that has a role in developmental biology. I'd think that companies would be amused that they are being recognized in important scientific work.

And I'm sure Nintendo wouldn't have given a shit if not for the fact that this gene causes cancer.

I love my GP2X, but seriously, it's ludicrous to compare it to the Nokia 770. They are two entirely different beasts. One is a gaming/media machine, and the other is an internet tablet. Shit, if the GP had any sort of internet connectivity it might be a valid comparison, but it doesn't. They're aimed at two very different markets.

I just got my GP2X a week ago and I love it. There's an awesome homebrew community based around it and its predecessor, the GP32, and even though it's only been available for about a month there's a good sized library of games and emulators. If you're looking to do anything but play games and maybe a few media files, though, you're better off with a PDA. There's no wireless, no touchscreen, and not much in the way of non-game-related applications. I personally have no use for a PDA, though, and so the $230 Canadian it cost me was money well spent.

I'm pretty much just repeating what Sparr0 said, but there is definitely an SDK. It uses the Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL).

Also, 3DO tried the "commodity gaming platform" thing and they failed miserably. With multiple companies selling essentially the same hardware that run the same software, there's nothing differentiating the different platforms, and anyone who breaks the spec to differentiate themselves could wind up incompatible with the software for the other platforms. You may as well just develop for the PC and be done with it.

If this new Dreamcast can still play "backups", I'd drop a few bucks on one just in case my current one kicks. Add in a broadband adapter (since they're such a pain to find for the original DC) and you couldn't keep me from buying one. And while they're at it, can they release a new Saturn, too?

Actually, I heard that's actually a pretty good game. I haven't played it myself, but that's got more to do with the fact that I hardly ever touch my consoles anymore. There've been so many good titles for my DS that that's where I spend my money and time.

WTF?!?!?! Even the Ford Truck commercials show an overweight guy driving an over-sized pickup truck. BEST IN TEXAS my ass...

I live in Alberta and it's the exact same thing. Tons of urban cowboys driving monster machines that have never even seen anything at all like real work. The first thing I hear from people I know who moved to Toronto or Montreal is "Where are all the trucks?"
