i mean, this does sound like a cool idea and all, but fuck paying $15 a month.. Google needs to do what it does really well, and that is to make their other services compatible with PDA Phones and Smartphone web browsers.. they did a great job with my personalized homepage, and gmail.. they should work on their own Video Search engine next in my opinion.. i use WiFi for any type of internet connectivity on my PDA phone.. not any of verizon's crappy wireless broadband services that aren't even offered in my area yet.. i can stream videos perfectly fine using windows media player for WM5.. i'm sure Google could easily get their player to cooperate.. Verizon needs to offer unlimited text messages to any one, not just to the people who are "IN", before they offer this YouTube service which will probably suck a lot of ass, and won't be worth the money..
here's a simple request then. find me any literary work where the author says it is a prequel and it was written before the predecessing book it refers to. its impossible because it simply doesn't exist. read the damn wiki page you'll understand it perfectly fine instead of making a complete ass out of yourself. look at the examples of prequels they list. not one thing was made BEFORE the originals. for example.. Zeldas Link to the past was a prequel for the original Zelda game.. most certainly a gba game was not written before the 8bit nes version. its plain and simple as long as you just read it and stop being a fucking flamebait
i understand where you're coming from.. i was just stating the definition because several commenters were like, "Well isn't the hobbit the prequel to LOTR?? how can there be two??".. i felt the need for some clarification.. technically, a film made after the first 3 could be a prequel indeed.. but obviously, the story was originally a book.. i don't think it necessarily counts, nor do i think people should be shouting off comments about the Hobbit being the prequel to LOTR when that statement is false..
obviously, you're the one who can't read.. "A literary, dramatic, or cinematic".. OR meaning a choice between one of those 3 things.. jesus christ are you fucking retarded??? i swear some people just like to pick fights on slashdot for no fuckin reason even though they're complete morons..
learn to understand the fucking english language idiot.. it takes ONE fucking google search to figure out what a Prequel really is.. and you're completely wrong and modded me down for it.. thank you..
"A prequel is a work that portrays events which include the structure, conventions, and/or characters of a previously completed narrative, but occur at an earlier time."
you totally missed the "preexisting work" part.. the hobbit was WRITTEN before LOTR.. therefore is NOT a prequel.. a prequel is written AFTER a book that already exists..
People need to get the definition of Prequel correct.. The Hobbit was written before LOTR.. A prequel is something written AFTER a preexisting novel.. Definition from dictionary.com:
"A literary, dramatic, or cinematic work whose narrative takes place before that of a preexisting work or a sequel."
The Hobbit is and never was considered a prequel.. It was simply a book written prior to the triology.. But I will agree that a prequel written at this day and age, would be absolutely horrible..
I'm still trying to understand what he has to be pissed about.. the man got lucky and won a bunch of money and bought a basketball team.. he needs to stfu and let people do their damn jobs.. who he is, has nothing to do with Google or Youtube, it just sounds like he wants attention.. i hate how just because people have tons of money, they can go around saying and doing whatever they want.. what the hell has google done to you personally Cuban?? not a damn thing.. he's probably just pissed because he wanted to buy youtube first..
good point dude.. that shit is ridiculous.. i'd like to try getting 100Gpbs internal network speeds.. are there switches capable of such things or would it be more apropriate having direct links from server to server or node to node??
thats what i thought this article was all about at first, then i read the part about it going from Tampa to Houston.. it still amazes me that people are stuck with dialup.. we use it at work, shared with 3 employees haha.. its crazy.. but what can ya do? no cable, no dsl.. and what tight-budget boss would spend money for a satellite setup? bah.. i wish Verizon would of kept their damn promise..
yea, they need some other pop-like figure to replace him.. it happens to all hipsters after a while.. i mean, Quiet Riot was once the shit, but obviously people think they're lame today minus a few exceptions.. gotta keep it fresh and hip.. i think i'll stick to being a Geek, and keep my PC..
agreed.. if the owner didn't read the manual, or had a Geek Squad member set them up with no WEP or WPA, then fuck em.. it's incredibly easy and i'm still not sure why people don't do this.. if your house transmits a public signal all the way to the road in which the city or state owns, then obviously any citizen can use such a service.. its only breaking the law if you're doing something illegal like breaking in to their network, stealing or deleteing their data, than that's one thing.. its nice for me when i need to do a quick activesync on my pda phone.. i'm not doing anything wrong, and they're offering a free public service for being stupid..
i agree completely.. like i said in a previous post, i've been all about Linux networks for years.. but as far as corporate is concerned, Windows SBS and 2k3 really makes life pretty damn easy, yet efficient and pretty damn secure.. thin clients and terminal services is totally the way to go.. exchange as well.. all at the click of a button.. all in all, it makes the customers happy too, if their getting a quality product that can be easily manageable, and usually not requiring a fulltime IT guy on staff.. if they need your help, you come in and help them.. get paid the big bucks by virtually being a part-time employee of a couple really big corporate networks..
i too work for a 3-man computer company and we're getting larger clients all the time thanks to a growing area.. we have a bit of competition, but really nobody worth trusting with your networks.. we're coming to the point now where we are having to disreguard in a polite fashion, our residential customers.. we simply don't have time for them, and its not wise to spend our valuable time fixing their spyware and viruses.. let them go to the Geek Squad or one of the small competitors in your area even though their work is horrible.. its like not like Geek Squad is setting up corporate networks so you won't have to worry about losing out..
i think you can easily handle the large networks, if you minimize the amount of work you do for smaller jobs.. cut out the time consuming jobs that don't make you much money.. if you stay on top of the upcoming technology, give solid timelines and quotes, you should be able to manage.. i hate to say it, but i've been Pro-Linux for years now.. and even the things i've done time and time again, sometimes takes reassurance and research.. if a company is willing to spend thousands for their network, you might as well set them up with a Windows server.. you didn't necessarily say how exactly you set these networks up and what software you use so there's only so much input the Slashdotters can give.. Windows ultimately saves you time and money because SBS and 2k3 work incredibly easy, and there's only so much documentation you need.. and the employees that utilize the network, enjoy it.. if they don't, then you didn't set it up right..
one more small thing to save time, is to do as much remote administration as possible.. being that you're only a 3-man operation, I personally don't see any problems with remote assistance.. some people might shun this, and say that no company can trust a computer guy to have remote assistance whenever he wishes.. but c'mon.. if you're only a small company with lots of work to do, are you really going to have time diddly daddling with their personal data? of course not, and why would you want to? most IT guys just want to get the work done so they can spend as little time with the customer as possible.. it avoids having to make any time consuming unnecessary trips..
I say keep it small, don't hire any more people unless you need them to help you pre-setup equipment at your shop.. stay focused on the larger networks, and stay organized..
one of the things i love most about Weird Al, is his ability to make a really horrible song, in to a really great song by blessing it with his parodic gift.. for example, I hate the band P.O.D., and I hate Fiddy Cent, and just about any song by any artist he's ever included on one of his Polka Medleys.. I can't help but appreciate, respect, and LOL at the talent he puts forth in making those amazing Polkas.. every album keeps getting amazing.. and i hope that one day he'll let me play tuba on one of his medleys;D that'd be the shit
these things are always a matter of personal preference.. i like a good small laptop, with a crystal clear and legible screen no bigger than 14 or 15 inches.. but i could see how a graphic designer, video editor, or hardcore portable gamer could benefit from this size of a laptop.. i wouldn't manufacture a crap load of these, but you can't deny that some people think bigger is better.. however, i personally think Dell should concentrate on making computers that don't break before they continue producing this crap..
yea, i probably wouldn't give two shits if they released a phone.. mostly because it'd cost like $200+ dollars, and you most likely couldn't do anything cool with it other than listen to music..
unless they come up with a remarkable idea, their phone surely can't top my XV6700 that lets me sync up with Outlook, use and install many different apps and games, play videos and music, and use a built in digital camera that also shoots video, browse the net, write emails, word docs, excel spreadsheets, a universal remote control, voice recognition to launch programs and contacts, and has a slide out keyboard etc...etc...
I just don't think a sexytime cool guy phone with a built in mp3 player is going to make the world beg for one.. they're going to have to make their phone MUCH more than just an mp3 player phone if they want to compete in this vast market.. they'd have to incorporate atleast half of the features I mentioned above, in a Apple comparable way, before I even considered looking at one..
i am though, very curious to see what they can come up with.. i hope to christ for their sake, that they do something innovative..
hahaha this is a freakin fantastic idea.. i guess i wouldn't want to ALWAYS be required to pedal, but it certainly offers a great alternative.. its great to be promoting this kind of thing, especially after watching the recent episode of South Park.. i think the best thing about this idea, is the fact that your hands don't have to leave the keyboard.. i have friends that set dumb-bell weights next to their computers for simple curls.. I've tried to do that, but it takes my mind away from the computer.. I might as well be going to a gym, or taking an excercise break.. but if i can combine the two without having to take my hands off the keyboard, then hells bells.. maybe this isn't the greatest idea of having it power your entire machine, but I'm hoping this will spark the interests of other inventors out there that can maybe come up with some good simultaneous computing/excercise ideas..

yes.. that makes perfect sense.. a PREEXISTING work or sequel.. therefore, the work needs to exist first, before a prequel can be written about it..

GO HERE AND READ THE FIRST FUCKIN SENTENCE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prequel

thats understandable.. but it's still not a prequel.. thats just a revised edition..

well its good to hear people are using pointless email clients.. luckily i'm not ignorant enough to waste my time..
I didn't even know Eudora still existed.
