If you dig rpgs and screen size matters, you should check out the Nintendo DS now. I held off buying one until last week, but now with the release of Advance Wars DS, and everything that's being released over the next few weeks for the DS (Castlevania DS, Lunar, Touch Memory, Trauma, etc.), and with the price drop to $129, I broke down and bought one. And I'm very happy I did. Advance Wards DS is awesome, even better than the earlier AW games for the GBA. Nintendogs is also a lot of fun.

Don't know about his answer, but mine is: I freakin' sold it! Why keep two consoles? There's always some holdout who's been waiting for the next gen console to come out so the he can buy the old one really cheap.

because I can leverage my decent PS1 library (Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Final Fantasy, Silhouette Mirage) with newer games (Megami Tensei: Nocturne, FF X, Disgaia, etc) and only have system.

Is Disgaea the best freaking game ever or what?

But I digress: Actually clutter is one of the reasons I probably won't get an XBOX 360 if they don't offer backward compatibility. Crap, the first Xbox was big and bulky enough! I don't want two of them filling up my entertainment system. Sony and Nintendo have already guaranteed backward compatibility for their next-gen systems.

And speaking of Sony and Nintendo, from the info that's been leaked so far, their systems seem like they're going to truly 'next generation' stuff, whereas the 360 seems like an small incremental nudge in speed and power.

Complete and utter waste of air time. It was like watching a nightmare showing of 'the real world' with a bunch of strutting idiots. NO real details, just a bunch of models and hollywood types.

Probably a Massive increase in productivity! All those who worship at the alter of Lucas will get off the office computers where they've been surfing for the latest SW tidbit or press slober and free up bandwidth.

Really, how can any self-respecting adult still get into this poorly-acted, horribly written adolescent fantasy of Lucas? Quick, jump off the cliff with the rest of the idiots!

  6. Useful computers vs. edutainment on Ditching Microsoft Could Save Education Millions · · Score: 1

Most schools waste their money (and even worse, learning time) on edutainment software like Oregon Trail, etc. etc. Sure that stuff can be fun--but is it academically worth the time and money? Or they just turn on a windows pc or mac and let the kids browse and paint to their hearts content--more waste of time. Most computer time is just wasted goofing around. Here's the way we just set it up at a 6-12 grade charter school in LA: K12LTSP running on a central server and 28 terminals. For the terminals we used old donated PIIs and a few PIIIs--so those were free. We bought a new barebones dual P4 server and then built it out ourselves. What apps does it run? OpenOffice and Firefox. Do you really need anything else for most students? And Firefox runs behind a Censornet(Squid and Dan's Guardian) proxy server, also an old donated PIII, that utilized not a blacklist, but a whitelist, so students can only go to sites pre-approved by staff. When they're on the web, they're usually supervised by a staff member anyway. Using LTSP also keeps me happy as the admin because I only have one machine to keep up--the server!
