I really am uncertain on the disposal methods of nanotube based devices / materials? I know that if they get into the water, they can screw things up. Has there been a advancement in disposal I'm unaware of? And if not, would this company be responsible for the damage they could cause. At least, in theory?
Maybe modern ones, but if you go back a few generations your chances of it existing drop drastically. so what you do for high security....
1 - rely on OLDER hardware. Stuff from before the past two administrations would have a significantly higher chance of not having government back doors. Clinton era computers to start with.
2 - use a completely different architecture. ARM is your best friend here or SPARC. The chances of SPARC having this are insanely small
3 - Get processors from your countries "enemy" Russians dont use Intel processors for their KGB and Government operations. If they did they would be the biggest morons on the planet. Find out what they use and try to source them through the black or grey market channels.
Welcome to the new world of underground computer science. Oh and keep your mouths shut. Don't do stupid shit like bragging as to what you have and where you got it. I'd say "hack the planet" but the safest thing is to go off the net and transfer data via offline means for the highest security.
You forgot a 4th option. If you were TRULY paranoid, you could write your own CPU and emulate in a FPGA. You would also have to design the fpga on a wire wrapped CPU, which would suck, but it's possible.
Anyone who uses a 'best interests of the children' argument should be immediately shipped to an island populated entirely by other people just like them.
Yeah, let's send all the evil people to a nice island with a secret base inside a volcano. I see no way this brilliant plan could possibly backfire, no sir. Certainly they wouldn't spend their time and resources plotting and building moon lasers.
You are AGAINST moon lasers? If they were able to do this, they would have been able to accomplish what over 50 years and every government on this planet has failed to do. Hell, I'd VOTE for them if they not only were able to figure out a viable power source, support systems and tracking technology for this. Sure, they'd be evil. And I'd probably die in some horrific way. BUT COME ON! MOON LASERS!
It's not as easy many would think it would be. The battery market requires A LOT more interest before they can speed up research. Right now, There is research being done with nanotubes. But if demand starts rising, I'm sure funding would be much easier to hire the teams of researchers needed to push it to market.
You have to wonder who WASN'T involved with Kim Dotcom at this point. It's absurd the amount of time and money that was used to investigate this one man. Personally, I've always felt he was a bit egotistical. But man, When goverment(s) bring THIS much force to you, you kind of deserve to be a bit over the top.
This has been A LONG time coming. Decades of mission creep, no one complains. But now that it's come back to bite us in the Gluteus maximus, we're all surprised? Personally, I love the idea that it's happening. Sure, I'll probably be one of the ones tortured and jailed for no other reason than "suspicious activity". And I'm not looking forward to that bit at all. But people have been screaming at us that this was going to happen. And no one listened. You reap what you sew, etc. As it was stated in the past, When they start coming for you, it's too late to change things.
I watch porn. I enjoy adults performing a natural function. And I have no reason to pirate porn. LITERALLY a search engine away and you have streaming porn. I mean, You have to really enjoy a certain actor to go as far as pirating a video. And then, why not show that you enjoy their work by paying for it? And to those that don't think performing on screen while performing sex acts is work, I would disagree. While I personally have never done so, I can imagine it is quite uncomfortable at times. "Hey earl, Stop, stop, stop! You are doing it wrong, You see her face? She should be begging and you aren't performing like you should. Get out of the way, john, take earls place, he is terrible today." I know that would hurt on a professional and emotional level. >.>
Um, wouldn't the ethical vegetarian become ethical non-vegetarians...
This interests me greatly. I have never had meat in my life, for ethical reasons. I'd eat this thing, though.
I'm curious if this would one day allow human muscle tissue to be sold. I saw this weird movie where most, if not all diseases were cured, and there was a obsession with celebrities. If they got a virus, it would be sold at a high price. And their vat grown muscle tissue was sold at a local deli.
Only connect one data link and ground, and it will be secure. Run a balanced pair if you are feeling fancy. If the receiver can keep up, you don't even need flow control lines. Problem solved.
You could just set a led that blinks when there is something wrong and have a 2 dollar webcam monitor it. If someone manages to force data through a led that isn't configured for such activity, they have won the internet and deserve access.
So I work at a large grocery store. How do I get my IT department up to date on this issue?. We have been compromised in the past and I have been noticing some strange things showing up on my terminals.
If your IT department isn't already on top of it, you have much bigger problems.
With dd you can create an exact image. Unfortunately you need to figure out if your hard drive can be read in a modern system. Xenix aka OpenServer was far more popular than Unixware in the x86 arena so I wonder what kind of architecture it is?
Here are the steps
1. Create a Linux system
2. Hook up the hard drive to it and mount it (Can Linux read Unixware formatted volumes?) and then run dd off the old hard drive and output it as a binary to the new hard drive.
3. Find a Virtualization solution that is compatilbe to load the image in
I doubt VMWare supports Unixware but it might. This is going to be a challenge and I know you may hate me for saying it but keep the server. Unless there is a new version of the software that is Linux compatible why fix what isn't broken? Keep in mind old SCO is Tarantula and owns Unixware. New SCO aka SCO Group does not own Unixware but is a just a licensing troll.
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Filesystems-HOWTO-9.html Quote from page: The support for BFS is included in the Linux kernel since version 2.3.25. If you are using an earlier kernel, check if BFS homepage contains a patch which adds support for this filesystem. The homepage also contains bugfixes/enhancement which are not yet merged into the official kernel.
Honest question: I do have an updated PS3 (yeah slashdot, judge me). I'm not interested on pirated games, but I may be interested on homebrew stuff (emulators and stuff like that). That leak will make that possible for me?
Umm...I may be in the wrong here, but I'm assuming you don't have the carts to the games you want to emulate. Which would make you interested in pirated games. If you do have the carts, More power to you!
I think the logic here is that it would be pointless to port the CLR when the majority of.NET applications have bindings to x86 native DLLs / modules anyway.
I'm not familiar with.net, But I thought the purpose of it was to be cross-platform?
But in all seriousness, I can't imagine what they could do other than take down the servers. Unless there was some emergency order that allowed retaliation against the offending source?
This could encourage some elements of the American populace to start thinking about recycling, clean air enforcement and so on. Environmental Jingoism. I mean, if people are going to be bigoted and general douchenozzles anyway, why not put it to a cause that helps everyone? It would be a interesting campaign, to say the least. Though that would be a rather sad statement about America in general.
Nope, no room for that, even in the "science" community.
Conform or be squelched.
Could you point out a scientific study for your hypothesis?

At least in theory. According to this PC world article, Can You Do Real Work With the 30-Year-Old IBM 5150? they were able to do basic internet things. But I think that may be bending the spirit of the rules. Also, Contiki was ported to x86.
It's gonna take a mighty big shark to carry around that kind of firepower . . .
Don't give the Sci-Fi -- I mean SyFy (sigh) -- channel any ideas. Sharknado was bad enough.
Here's another terrible idea: Antalanche >.>
Yes. At the inauguration for one. Unless you're suggesting that one of them was a replicant...
No, the meeting was to engage the body swapping equipment. I mean, When was the last time you heard G.W. Bush SAY anything.

There STILL isn't anything worth watching on tv. :p

No matter what you trade, if it has value, the state will look to control it's function.

I'm sure there is a argument for that somewhere? Regardless of message, it is not just a clip of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
