I'm not sure what part of the UK you live in. But in the part I live in, kids don't seem to get stabbed every week. And if a memory stick has gone missing, luckily it's not affected me personally.
Strangely, things in my part of the UK aren't that bad. Sure there are problems, but there's problems everywhere, in every country.
London's Underground network can't run all night. It's closed during the night for essential works. It only has one set of tracks, unlike the NYC subway which has two (so when one closes, the other can be used).
If it were being built today, no doubt they'd dig two tunnels, but unfortunately the network is over 100 years old and they didn't think of that back then.
I've never used Target Disk Mode myself, but I did read about ImageBoot, which will apparently be a feature of OS X Snow Leopard, when it eventually comes out.

My S350 loaded Spiderman 3 in 15 seconds.
I still think that's painfully slow though. The DVD plays almost right away.
Even most people with high definition TVs don't see much real benefit from Blu-ray over properly upscaled DVD playback, either.
