You had a good point, but why did you fudge the numbers? First of all in your theater cost everyone got $10 of food, in the at home cost you don't include the cost of food, only the rental. If you're going to make a comparison, compare equal things. So maybe at home it costs $2 for soda, $1 for popcorn and $1.25 for the rental. That's actually $4.25 (that puts popcorn and pop at under $1 per person as you said) compared to maybe more realistically $60 at the theater, assuming a family pack of soda and popcorn and maybe a discount on one of the kid's tickets. I don't go to the theater because of the high costs, and I'm Dutch, so correct me on the numbers if I'm a little off, but I doubt it's $40 for soda and popcorn for a family of 4, maybe $25. Also, popcorn and soda isn't free at home either.
I like your point, it's a good point theaters are overpriced I agree, but I hate it when people exaggerate and fudge numbers to try to prove their point. I hate it even more, and it's a pet peeve, when it's a good point! I glad you actually included the cost of your home theater system into the numbers, most people would have left that out, and seeing the other comments people already have.
You'll probably need at least 1000 cores and 8 gigs of ram to run the next Windows. I think that's what you're talking about when you say, "In the near term, you can imagine a whole host of applications that would become possible..."
Offtopic: I think an overall "bettery life" would be getting out of the house more often, and not infront of a computer screne. But yet I still read/. to help maximize the time well spent while not outside.
Now I'm even happier that I paid the extra $1300 for the SSD option in my MacBook Air.
That way it will run out of battery sooner, leaving me free to use a real computer.
I thought you were going to say, "..more free time to have a real life."
Any avid internet browser (person) should know about tabbed browsing and use it. The fact that many IE people are on older versions of IE, which don't have it, just goes to show that IE users are stupid. (If not obvious for other reason)
For the cost to get them online we could get them clean drinking water and an abundance of food. It's not like we don't know they exist, it's that we're ignoring them.
I tested a theory and searched online to find "polarized light" to see how long it'd take me to find it, process it, and be able to raise my hand to give an accurate example/asnwer. It was under 20 seconds and part of the lag was being on a work computer without my favorite bar.
I'd say for most real world applications this is quick enough to answer a question with you previously knew nothing about. And additionally the more it's done (this process of finding, processing, and explaining your findings) the smarter you're getting. It's like a mini research project every time you do it.
You have a valid point, if he was talking about how they are currently integrated (used in corelation). However I assume he was asking why you couldn't integrate them together in one package. (ie. WOW having Skype/Myspace inbedded in the game.) With that functionality you could possible right click on the WOW UI and select set as wallpaper, or save image to a specific myspace pictures gallery, and on top of that talk to people in game over Skype.
To answer that question there is no technical barrier stoping us from making those integrations. Already game consoles allow us to do some of them, not skype specifically, but the audio over the game option (most Xbox360 games). As for WOW they'd just have to make a pact with Myspace and with in no time we could have that also.
I think the major advantage is that you can clean a power plant much easier than every tailpipe out there. I agree fully. Many people say electric cars don't solve the polution problem because the elecricity used comes from other poluting sources (power plants).
This may be true, however by centalizing the majority of the problem to one area, power plant, we now can focus to improve it instead of spreading our energy out across two major areas.
There are pretty cheap adaptors to make game controllers (PS2) work on the computer and many emulators let you map the buttons quickly and easily. I haven't tried any games with 2 controllers this way, but I hear it's possible. Also there is a way to make a Wiimote work with through a cheap Bluetooth usb dongle so you could play various games (many online ones) with that as well.
- Apple will never release a low-cost computer Have they really done this one? Just look in a Best Buy ad. In comparison are any Apple computers low cost? And I'm not even delving into building your own PC.

Did you forget about the Opera in FF4?
You hinted at them in the first paragraph, but never mentioned them as a type of person:
4) Those who recognize problems and exploit them (via lying, cheating, coercion, etc.)?
I much prefer #2, especially when they are selfless acts, like helping the poor and homeless.
CUIL is an acronym at NASA that means: Common Usage Item List.
I misread the title as saying "Ninja" instead of "Nina's" I was sadly disappointed when I realized my error.

Centennial Wireless here in MI, free incoming text. It could just be my plan.
I love it. I maybe send 2-3 texts a month: I receive 10 times that.

"Dear", I don't think that word means what you think it means.

It's the year of Linux on the (Desktop) Motherboard!

With his death will bring a surge of Linux users. This is definitely the year of Linux on the desktop!
His wife you say? Oh crap the wrong person died!

Now you can make your own $2mil underground cable system from home! (With 3 easy installments of $666,666. S&H not included)
This makes a lot of sense.
