I too wish that I could run OSX on my PCs, OSX looks good indeed, but given Apple is licking Microsoft shoes and more if affinity we won't see OSX or any major software from Apple for Linux any time soon. Had better live with it and support the development of existing packages, like KDE.
We heard about "donate for perl", what about a "donate for KDE" campaign ?
For the ones who haven't read about it, the trial version of Kylix has been available for download since yesterday.
This is a wonderful tool for game developers, as you can without too much effort compile the same project using delphi 6 for Windows.
I'm looking forward to see what people are currently developping for Linux using Kylix, expect to see really cool stuff soon!
(Submitted this as a story, but it was rejected)
Hey and what about hiding the Windows install files into the molecules of a piece of turd ?
You could name one turd 95, turd 98,... Wouldn't that be fun?
And see you batteries die faster than you can fill the disk. Unless you can carry a 10 pounds shoulder-type battery, it's hardly useful.
I would love to use that, but given my experience with digital cameras I will stick with flash memory cards, 256 MB is not that bad and I have enough battery time to fill it.
Right, here comes the "not news" refrain again... Well of course there have been similar services available, heard about ditto or altavista ?
Well CreativePro.com didn't work for me either, but fontsearch did.
However the images or fonts returned by those sites are not free, you have to purchase the files. Those 2 sites are really a bunch of crap, for commercial images, use Corbis or Associated Press instead !
Given that spammers don't give a crap sending you their crap (sometimes several times a day on the same account), why would you think they would suddenly be so kind that they would take the time to remove you from their email database ?
The only reason spam includes an opt-out is to check the validity of an address. People credulous enough (no offense Rob) will gladly opt-out, only to get more spam in return, their address having a "checked" mark just right to them.
Given the speed at which spam evolves (I don't count how much spam I receive in languages I cannot even read, like Russian or Korean), I hope initiatives from politicians (like those from California) will pop up soon.
I don't expect anything from ISPs like UUNET deliberately supporting spammers by not taking any action against them.
Well iPaq or Palm may be nice PDAs, but if I were you, I would wait for the release of the Sharp Zaurus in Europe and the US, at this time the OS will be Linux (more here).
The current models run a proprietary one, but thanks to some hackers, you can already run Linux on them (read./ story on the subject).
The latest Japanese models can run Java applications too, which is damn cool too.
I know a guy owning a MI-E1 and it really kicks ass, I love the keyboard which, in spite of its small size, proves much more convenient than any character recognition I've tried before (and I believe I've tried them all!).
Most companies I have used already provide you with the current location of the plane anyway, so why do you need a GPS, apart from the geek factor of course ?
Actually it may be interesting to do so, albeit the small bandwidth.
Say I run a web server on a long-flight to sell weed, what would be the applicable legislation in that case ? I may use an American airline company, but what if I'm actually flying over China ? Not that it would be difficult to trace you but I wonder about legal implications in that case. Any ideas ?
Yeah, right. You may be interested to know that C++ is actually on the decline in university courses, Java being the language preferred, having many advantages over C++ like real object orientation (rather than a C language "hack"), although it's not perfect (but the language is evolving, watch out for JDK1.4 release later this year).
If you want to play MP3s on Gameboy, there is a device called SongPro (previously named SongBoy) using removable flash cards of up 32 MB, I saw somewhere the "Junior" model costs around $100, but their site doesn't seem to be updated anymore, even the order page is broken.
Maybe you can find one on eBay if you're lucky.
With the original Gameboy and its Z80, I guess all the decoding is done with specialized hardware in the card, maybe the Advance could do it by itself ?
Talking about hardware, the coolest device I've seen was this sonar I've seen in a shop in Japan. Now that kicks some ass, I'd be interested in hearing about weird devices you can plug to the Gameboy, GPS, Ethernet anyone ?
GPRS ? What are you talking about ? That's GSM, and I hardly see any link with 3G, you have quite laughable arguments as usual, like your ricochet, so you're downloading 60MB a day with that ? Get a life man, use a T1, Cable or ADSL, where I live it costs nothing. You should try, you could download even more of your pr0n Quicktime movies with that !
I couldn't help laughing out reading your post, 128kbps ? Wow ! That's surely impressive compared to 2.4 Mbps (which, although already released to testers, is vaporware, right ?). Oh and yeah, watching streaming video must be great with that ricochet, as long as you can bear 2fps rates !;9 Not even talking about using it for talking...
Well as you live in the US you may have never heard about NTT, but given the money they're spending on this, you can be sure it will be a hit. Heard about i-Mode ?
Your post was hillarious, but you should use quotes next time, some people could believe you were serious with your stupid points;)
That was funny, look everybody's laughing !
Hey, he said the ISP was in Taiwan, NOT in the US!
get a life instead ? ;)
Grab a nice girlfriend if you can and you'll see there are better things in life than machine rooms !

There are a few pictures of the card on this page.

oh ?
No doubt the guy who moderated this as "informative" was on crack. Or it was humour, in which case I didn't say anything ;)
I can think of better options than running Delphi in 240 x 320, unless you have 6 iPaq tied together with duct tape...

It's called Europe, funny I didn't know you called it this way on the American side of the Atlantic...

I use JRefactory with JBuilder myself, a highly recommended open-source plugin, give it a try!
Unfortunately, until it supports Javascript, it's totally useless. Nice idea though.

Cool, but I would prefer this case to keep my beer cold (although I should fiddle with the temp, -17 would hardly make it drinkable).
Mhh, beer !...
Good luck getting 30 kbps ? Ha ! Man, you really have no idea how the 3G systems work. Did you forget the quotes again ?
As for expandability, the initial network infrastructure planning will be quite a challenge and will determine its scalibility.
As for Ricochet, with such poor coverage and features, no wonder it's dying and will probably not exist by the end of this year...
