Well this is kind of right, but given the compatibility problems between browsers and the lack of advanced UI components (we're limited to the HTML form ones or hack some new ones, like those dynamic trees for instance), so I didn't pick Javascript as a solution to the problem.
However, you're right that it's damn light, and the fact that it's interpreted also makes it much easier to debug.
WebStart kicks ass to provide easy access to applications/applets for end users, update features rock too ! However, on the requirement I have is that the application should run inside the browser (IE & Netscape), so that excludes WebStart, from what I know.
That's right, and I've used a trial copy to see what potientials it had. The fact is that its XML stream feature is very handy, but what bugs me is that using it would mean having to write any GUI component from scratch. Say I want to have a resizable table with scrollbars for instance, I believe it would take quite some time to develop it, when many GUi components are already available with Java's AWT or Swing. I haven't heard of any UI components library for Flash, but if there were one, that would greatly help. My other concern is the power of the ActionScript language. Apart from that, Flash animations do look really cool and quite fast too, no doubt about that.
Also, take a look at this site : interblaze.com, and look at the contact address : (support@pagecreators.net), and the cancel URL (http://www.pagecreators.net/cancel).
Better stay away from interblaze too !!

Agree, I love my MD players (portable and deck), CDs may be cheap, but it pisses me off to have to throw them when I don't want to listen to a collection I made. With MD, erase the tracks you don't need, and off you go, you can't beat the price!
You may also be interested in a few products that make use of the MD for storing data, such as camcorders or cameras. Here's a nice page to look at (with pictures;) and also here.
I don't agree, I don't see why the developers wouldn't compile binaries for all platforms the project is supposed to be released to, that's just a matter of a few compiler options anyway.
Now, if you use exotic OSes such as Xenix or Unixware and expect Linux projects to be ported to your platform, yes you're a second-class user, but that's your own choice, isn't it ?
I had tried previous versions of Opera before, but it cannot replace IE or Netscape in my case because I have to view pages in Japanese, that Opera don't render properly.
I read in an FAQ last month that it was supposed to be done for next version, but apparently v.5 still don't support far-east languages (Chinese, Japanese), and there's no trace about it on their web pages. So anybody have a clue when it is supposed to be done ? I can't wait to get rid of the fat-so (IE & Netscape) !
Ok, I understand it's made by a French company, so if I were to use their "HUE", what tells me that I will still be able to order nazi memorabilia on Yahoo and continue the development of my concentration camp simulation game with this guy ?
If you have a large glove box, then look no more furher than this amazing system. You can even use it to play exciting colourful games or type letters in a word processor between two telnet sessions.
Great, now how long can you run with the batteries inside ?
Flash has some clear advantages to using a hard drive, and especially power consumption and robustness (try to use one of those MP3 players with a hard drive inside while skiing, bet your player would die earlier than your batteries).
Look by yourself, who's the kid writing as an AC and who's trying to reply in a more intelligent way ? Americans don't need idiots like you, get a life or rent one if you can. Thanks.
Well, I tried to register on MailVault just before and I got a "Certificate expired warning.... Cert. valid until 11/11/2000"...
'Nuff said, I will try another one.
Well, going to Japan quite a lot myself, I can tell you that you can find any piece of hardware for playing MP3 you can imagine, from watches to players & recorders, Japanese or foreign models (the cheapest I'ven seen is a Taiwanese model around $80, looks ugly though ). There are also a few magazines dedicated to MP3 and more and more people seem to be aware of what MP3 is, and not only geeks!
I have heard of pages where you can get some MP3 with your portable phone by using web-like services such as i-mode or Jphone. You can already download new music for your portable phone (multi-voice, not a buzzer!), which is now in proprietary format, but it wouldn't surprise me if phone makers made it possible to upload MP3 music as well.
Agree, however there was a port to some UNIX systems too (namely HP-UX & Solaris) that was done last year by a French company if I remember well, using MainWin, a library enabling developpers to port their Windows applications to several types of Unix. Now as MainWin is available for Linux too, I guess it wouldn't be too hard for M$ to port IE to Linux too, if they wanted to !
Eh eh, I guess not. This should consider this as part of a benefit, as it is closer to the original system. I wonder if there is a bsod (Blue Screeen Of death Deamon) process running, maybe I should check...
I agree with you with you, this is something quite annoying, as well as the fact that we need to run a patched kernel. I hope the guys who work on it will improve this in the future.
Another disadvantage was that you can only install US versions Windows, but I've read future versions will permit other exotic versions to be installed as well.
Well, I'm afraid that you're supposed to use original software, either with VMWare or Win4Lin, don't you ? If I didn't need Windows for a few applications, of courseI wouldn't need VMWare, I'm quite happy with Linux already!
I will not give a penny for a software that is slow as a snail, the minimum system requirements are ridiculously high, hope plex86 will be better.
What's more, I receive tons of spam from Vmware, so they definitely DO NOT deserve my money. Long live Free software !
I bought Win4Lin instead, and I'm really impressed with it, it runs at nearly the original speed! As what most people want is a way to use the few Windows applications they have to run everyday, it's just great. If a couple of guys pretend they have to run Netware, WinNt and Win98 on the same machine at snail pace, that's fine for them, but as I have no masochistic tendencies, I will keep using the fastest solution.
And as someone said : Buy Win4LinThey deserve your dollars, and you deserve their fabulous piece of software ! ;>

Some reviews are hopefully still alive, and well, here are a few I found (courtesy of Google):
- hostsearch.com
- wuli.com
- And on the Worst hosts list, it's on the top !

Any open source project udergoing ? Didn't find anything on SourceForge...

If you want to use a data recovery company like that one, you had better have really valuable on your hard drive, or else it's not worth it.

And I'm not sure they make such good cup holders as well.

Thank you for your very technical and utterly interesting arguments, we are all pleased to have such a litterate person on Slashdot !

...whose ISP is AOL ? ;)
OK, now FYI Borland is not the name of a programming tool, but of a company. Maybe you should ask your little brother about that before you post ;)

Of course you won't get no error, Lynx doesn't support Javascript !
