Couldn't agree more at campuses like The University of Cincinnati, which is in a high crime area, locking down the campus every time a gun gets brandished would not only be costly but the students would not be taught. At some point people have to realize that not all tragedies can be avoided. Knee jerk reactions are rarely correct and lack foresight needed to make intelligent decisions (Patriot Act, Duke Lacrosse). The blame resides solely on the Principle, Officer, and Prosecutor who failed to look at all the facts.

Lots of money goes towards protecting soldiers, light body armor for example. When the Chinese decide to invade the US I'll be glad we have fancy killing weapons. The best way to protect our soldiers is to eliminate the enemy. Our Federal government is bloated to an all time high thanks to FDR, the feds should only worry about military/national security (this would include highways), international trade, and disputes between the states. Not pandering to companies for campaign money or minorities/unions for votes with the promise of tax breaks or other incentives.

EVIL CORPORATIONS are not all EVIL, so if a company can do research on crops that will help under developed countries and write off their expenses as a humanitarian effort then it's a win win.
