I remember Alan Kay saying that Xerox wasn't easy on Xerox PARC. It was PARC's directors that shielded the researchers from the corporate pressure and gave them the time and space to do their work. Not Xerox'. So I don't think these historical companies had a grand vision of research. They had good research directors. Note also that some well known projects survived because they were kept below the management's radar and caught on outside the research lab. Both UNIX at ATT and HTML/HTTP at CERN took off partly because the management didn't care much about them.
It seems that the PS3 40 GB consumes only half of what you said (135 Watts, see http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/30/40gb-ps3-features-65nm-chips-lower-power-consumption/).
So you can go and buy a second PS3.

The speed limit is 130 km/h, and in favourable conditions the cops tolerate 160.
Watch out for the radar at milepost 130. Dunno about cops that tolerate 160.

Calculate y(n) where y(n) = a * x(n) + b * y(n-1). This is a basic, first-order, infinite impulse response filter. Off you go.

They invented the WC to read the newspaper undisturbedly. (I even bought a fart simulator to justify my regular restroom visits.)Don't pay too much attention to Mr Stern, he just likes to write flame baits. I guess that's the easiest way to make a living as a journalist.
