A daemon (in the way FreeBSD uses it) is not the common definition of demon most go by but "a supernatural being of Greek mythology intermediate between gods and men." From the FreeBSD Handbook, "Daemons were characters in Greek mythology; neither good or evil, they were little attendant spirits that, by and large, did useful things for mankind. Much like the web servers and mail servers of today do useful things. This is why the BSD mascot has, for a long time, been the cheerful looking daemon with sneakers and a pitchfork."

While all of these things on here look quite fun, and I've even seen an old Russian submarine someone posted, nothing can quite beet one of U.S. Submarines luxury models.

They've been making manned submersibles for exploration and tourist subs for several years now. But as people have been getting wealthier, and megayachts just aren't cutting it anymore, luxury submarines are coming into popularity. US Submarines makes a 118' luxury submarine (http://www.ussubs.com/Luxur y_f older/lux.seattle.html) capable of trans-Atlantic crossings, can stay submerged (without moving) for up to 20 days and can dive to 1000 feet. The interior is nothing less of what you would expect aboard any luxury yacht. It has three staterooms, a dining area, forward lounge, a pilot's station, sauna, more staterooms, galley, and a crew mess.

Now, for those of us (myself included) who just don't think that's enough, they also make a 216' model with more than 5,000 square feet of living space. Capable of everything listed above, this supersub travels at 16 knots on the surface (it looks like any ordinary yacht up top) and when the waves become a bit unsuitable for your tastes, just dive! (http://www.ussubs.com/Luxur y_f older/lux.phoenix.html).

How much for this dream machine? Only a cool $78 million.

Paul Allen reportedly ordered a smaller 30' sub from the company to be carried aboard his megayacht.

  18. Diesel is the future on What Does the Future Hold for Low Emission Vehicles? · · Score: 1

Over in Europe where a gallon of gas costs ~$4.00, it's no wonder many people invest in diesel cars. The trend stopped in the US many years ago because they produced a lot of exhaust, and while they had great MPG, they were slow, lumbering beasts that took forever to get moving. Fortunately, much of that has changed. Filters are now standard on exhausts and that thick black smoke no longer comes out the rear of diesel cars. Most are only a bit slower than the same car with a more standard engine.

BMW produces a fine 3 serioes diesel that gets somewhere aroudn 40 MPG, but it is unavailable in the United States. I think it's a shame. In a recent issue of a British, all BMW car magazine, they drove the 330d around for a while and said there wasn't another BMW they would rather have than this. It's 0-60 time was only milliseconds bellow the standard 330 and it got more than twice the amount of MPG, all for the same price!

VW produces a Europe only car that gets somewhere around 80 MPG. It performs better than the hybrid cars coming out and it's all diesel. There's no reason to switch to something that isn't quite here yet (hybrid/electric) until we've really looked into and gotten everything out of diesel cars we can.

There isn't anything I want more than a diesel car, but a truck is pretty much all I can do in the US. If you ask me, it's sad.

This happens at nearly every school. It's too expensive to hire someone who knows what they're doing to work at the school, and no one is going to when they can get better paying jobs with stock options somewhere else. Schools need so very much people to come in and do so many things. Teachers, students and staff need to be taught how to use the technology. They need help setting it up. No one knows how to configure a firewall to protect the school's computers, no one knows how to select the right webserver (nevermind even knowing how to set it up and keep it running.) School don't understand the concept of maintenance. They don't know to keep their computers in shape. They need help setting up networks. They need help with everything. This goes on every single day in every single school on this earth. If you really, really, really want to make a difference and provide someone service, go to you nearby school. Elementary, middle or high school. It doesn't matter. They all need it and they need it now. Whether you know how to program, setup a network or webserver or just know how to keep some machines running in top shape, spend a little time. So, from what I know, I would have to disagree with Timothy's statement, at least the "in contrast part." I don't have a clue to the actual extent of "texting" in either of these two countries though. Just a bit of info.

I doubt you'll find that sedan with any less than ~450 bhp.
