SharkeyExtreme seems to be biased towards Intel, I read their P4 unveiled article yesterday and it never really questioned what Intel has been saying about the processor, all they did was regurgitate Intel's marketing department crap.

I don't watch SharkeyExtreme very often but from these two articles they seem like intel zealots who don't really look deeply into the processor problems and see what truly is going on. I don't doubt this article at all, I just question the depth of the article. I don't see any true questions raised about the chips and chipsets just repetition of how good they will be and how much they will give AMD a run.

  15. If this goes to Supreme Court on 2600's Response to the DeCSS Decision · · Score: 1
Here is a reason I am planning to register to vote this particular election. I haven't ever registered to vote because in my state (oregon) every major issue that has ever passed was put down by a group of people opposed to it. I am going to register to vote simply so I can get Gore into office. Here is the reason why.

If Bush gets into office we all know that there are a few Supreme Court Justices that will probably step down in the next 4 years and that means that the next president will appoint the new ones. Do we really want right wing Supreme Court Justices who are so tight assed they can't pass a greased BB on that bench? Well as I see it if Bush gets into office we will have that exact problem. We will have Justices up there on the bench that will be right wing appointed by Bush who will more than likely be jaded towards the internet, not understand how to use it, and who have probably constantly asked their secretaries to print their fucking E-mail so they can read it.

If this goes to supreme court it will probably find itself about in the middle of this re-appointment time and we will ALL be screwed because of it. 2600 will be screwed, DMCA will be law, the MPAA will be a god (not to mention the RIAA). All this stems from one problem... we geeks don't vote!!! I know that I will be registering to vote this next election for the sole purpose of keeping Bush out of office.

Yes... that is one of the things that AMD has been pushing for with this processor... you won't NEED to recompine the binaries for the newer processor, but that particular binary won't be able to take advantage of the advanced features the Hammer series contains (more registers and such)

IA-64 would require you to re-compile all the binaries in the IA-64 Instruction set as it isn't truly an extension of the 32 bit system we use now. AMD will be able to jump quickly into the 64 bit field, but Intel might be able to edge them out on performance when the 64 bit compilers hit the scene for the IA-64 chip.

I mean maybe this will keep Intel and AMD on their toes. Well Intel is already on their toes, but but having a noose around it's neck and standing on a chair on it's toe's isn't what I meant. This COULD be just what AMD needs to keep them innovating and the chips coming. Hell Intel may actually have to release something that isn't using the overclockers tricks... :)

But seriously... I think if this actually does have any chance to stand up it will have to belly up to the bar with the big boys (AMD and Intel) and start selling. Unfortunately by the time the VIA Samuel chip comes out it will probably already be yesterdays news. By that time if we look at Intel's predictions (Yah right those will ever come to be correct) they should have 1.6 or 1.7 Ghz chips by them. But if we look at their track record of releases, well let's just not touch that... Too easy. Am I wrong or was the Samuel one of Cyrix's chips (not sure, but I know the Joshua was) and those had atrocious (sp) FPU's. That equates to a bad gaming chip, but ok office app performance.

But we can hope that this will have something revolutionary in it somewhere (doubt it) and maybe it will even make Intel start sweating even more (like they'll ever show that to the public). AMD still is #1 in my book especially after the drop in prices that happened this week and the one that is supposed to happen last week. I mean let's face it 1 Ghz chips to the public (not in 1000 bunches) for under $600 WOW. While intel's chip was $1,200 for the same speed. :cough: wallet molestation :cough:

  21. My question on Paying Twice For Windows · · Score: 2
Ok, here is a question for everybody. I am having a hard time weeding through the article and understanding exactly what is going on.

    Here we go:

    1. Is there really ANY difference between the select license they purchase and the license I got with my new Dell last month?
    2. If there is then what are those differences?
    3. Does it really matter HONESTLY, other than money, if I have 50 select licenses and only have 40 computers (planned on an upgrade), buy 10 new computers with OS's on them (we'll say Win98) and I then wipe their drives and use my drive image to put Win2K on them (thus using up the last 10 select licenses I bought)
    4. or is it like this.... I buy 40 Select licenses and use them on 40 computers, purchase 10 new PC's with Win2K on them. Wipe their drives and then use my images to install the Select licensed version on them? (image created from Select licensed version of Win2K)
If the case is the third one above I wouldn't see any problems other than the fact that I purchased Win98 on the PC when I should have purchased Win2K and created case four

In case four I can't see where MS get's off ranting and raving about anything. We paid for our license and probably ended up paying more through the OEM for the license then we would have if we had purchase a select license for each.

Maybe I am not seeing this quite right, but those are the only ways I can see this happening. Any input?
