"...if they're program works flawlessly, which it won't."
Which it doesn't. As of now, and the beta version anyway. On my Windows box, I ran Windows Defender two or three times and then ran Ad-Aware SE Personal. WD didn't pick up anything. Ad-Aware picked up 60 Critical and 100 or so minor risk things.
Let's hope they make WinDefender (and Vista, for that matter) more secure than it is now, at least for the sake of those people that trust in Microsoft's bundled software (IE adamants, etc.)
Trying to tear down the WinXP firewall is a given.
I agree wholeheartedly. Is it just me, or have you noticed that all the legitimate apps are questioned by the Windows firewall but all spyware gets through? I have downloaded legitimate games that the firewall "caught" and questioned me about, and yet when I purposely installed spyware through a warez site, clicking "Yes I agree to install", Windows didn't even recognize that the malware was installed.
And yet, Internet Explorer is an integrated and core application for the OS...you can't uninstall IE [on a Windows box]. Note the insane amount of time it takes to upgrade IE.
"And even an enthusiastic gamer-parent like Breining has limits. He hasn't ventured near Ronny's GameBoy Advanced portable."
Oh gosh. People, it's Game Boy Advance, NOT GameBoy Advanced.
I can't figure out what's worse, when people say GameBoy Advanced, or when people think the DS is a Game Boy.
AFter hearing all this, I decided to try Opera and have come to this conclusion: SHIT OPERA IS FAST! Even with Firefox's pipelining and maxrequests set to the highest possible, Opera is still faster by a long shot. However, Firefox is still fairly new (1.0.4) and Opera isn't (8.0 or 8.1), so they still have much to do, and with the new Gecko engine, the next version of FF should be much faster.
And then, it's debatable whether IE even qualifies as a "browser"...
Hehehehe...
Of course, that site looks like absolute crap in IE. along with the text being gray, the titles of the sections were off as well.
God i played that game not too long ago! That was INSANE! Now they have "Bomberman Kids" for the TI-83+ and up. Not as good, but when your bored in English, you take what you can get.
The point is, if I can save $50-$70 on the Revolution because it doesn't play DVDs, great!
What if you could choose between a Revolution with a DVD player, or without? Better yet, you get to choose the extra features! Customize your Revolution like you would an IBuyPower or CyberPower computer! That would totally rock!
I'm guessing your implying the fact that when something is deemed "wrong" or becomes illegal, more people (especially teens) want to do it?
This has a bit of truth to it. Generally "rebels without causes" do things just because they are wrong. I'm sure there would be peope that would learn how to infect computers with malware just because it's now illegal.
I think Australia has a good idea, but this may never work as if you look at the amount of viruses out there (they are illegal as well) and the amount of damage caused, just making something illegal does not cause it to stop, just slow down. Crime and organized crime have very high rates, even though they are illegal.
I agree, BitTorrent is totally free of all Malware (although I can't say the same about the stuff you download with it). But Kazaa and Limewire DEFINATELY install mass amounts of spyware and adware on your computer. I know from experience.

There is a system. It's called going to the Firefox/Thunderbird/Mozilla whitelist page.

Don't know why you were AC on that, that was a perfectly good post. I agree 100%. At least we have laws in this society.

Too bad Nintendo decided to cancel it...
This wasn't flamebait, I just wondered why everyone was talking about c when i thought c^2 was the speed of light... *cries*
Hmm, but isn't the speed of light c^2? whats with all this c stuff?
I'd be interested to know how expensive this was... Anyways, I would DEFINATELY love to try this.

Also, true, as more and more intelligent and malevolent lawyers and loopholes are "discovered".
