One thing I thought of, Satellite web servers.. That means that long after the Earth is gone, people will still be able to go to www.InOrbitPORN.com and get their daily dose.
But seriously, is this a safe thing to do? It all seems to Big Brother-ish. First off, Im sure this would be a major hack target... A satellite that can take pictures anywhere on earth, or can be told to collide with the sun, or fire a giant laser, blah blah blah. I dig how everything is going online and interactive, but theres a few things we should hold sacred. What's next? Going to missile.gov, entering in your CC# and being able to control a real live ICBM?

Theres a better explanation here
Intel has their Side Step dual-power CPU's, why not a dual power video card too? I for one would think it'd be great to run it at Xvolts when unplugged and XX volts when docked. I know heat may be an issue, but theres got to be some creative heat ducting. I'd pay a few bucks extra for something like that, and be one more step closer to ditching my hulking tower.
heh, looking back at my post I guess it does sorta look like that. But no, I don't. I was just so pleasantly surprised when I went to find something like this online, that I was hooked. I will admit though, finding an online (well, good one) bank that doesnt want a huge deposit or a minimum daily balance is sort of tough, there needs to be a site out there with nothing but Online Banks. Not just the 50/50 Online/Brick anf mortar mix but pur online banks. Towards the end I had a choice tween these guys and 3-4 other. To tell the truth the only reason I picked netbank was because the minimum required to open an account was (at the time, not sure now) only 50$.
*shrug*
The answer.. YES! I use NetBank.Com and love them. I've used em now for about, ohh, 8 months or so and never once had a problem. Their fees are lower then ones you'd find at a brick-and-mortar branch AND their lowest-level no minimum balance checking accounts INCLUDES INTEREST! How many banks out there do that? I havent found one. And then theres the conveinence. I can order checks, deposit slips, transfer funds, pay my bills, whatever online. And the best part is I can go downstairs in my building, take out 20$, and instantly see that 20$ taken out of my account in real time. No waiting till midnight for the bank to update their records. And here another kicker, hows 24 customer service via the phone sound? Name ONE bank that does that. All my transactions take place over the defact-o standard ssl 128bit encryption. So in short, especially if you have direct deposit, theres no better way to go then online banking!
But what about in practice? I, for one, would sign up guaranteed. But as it would tend to happen when the information "bat signal" was sent out I probably wouldnt A. Have the space B. Have the energy or C. Have the bandwidth to attempt to mirror one site, let alone many. Plus, all the gov has to do is get a warrant and make the sign up list known to them and go after each one of us. Yeah, I know Im being paranoid. And I know that there are probably some people with the time, energy, space and bandwidth to do this. But out of, say, 15000 people I bet only 2 or 3 actually do something. Just my two cents, so dont hate me.
I wasnt being serious about the 5MB key, but I want to go above (well the company) 4096 bit key. Hell, that size key takes me maybe 2 seconds to generate the pair, Id feel safer if it took, say, a minute to generate it. *shrug* Just being curious as to how high I can take the encryption really
Where I might be able to find a product that integrates as easily with all my PIM's and email clients like PGP, only utilizes a key larger then 4096 bits? My company does use PGP pretty much all over the place, as we deal with the stockmarket and the SEC requires it for certain things. But Id like to use a larger key, Im talking like 5,228,000,000 bytes or so. Something of that size ought to make it virtually unbreakable even to the Quantum computers. Any ideas folks?

When does NetZero allow anything other then Windows to connect to it? I know there were password revealers and the like for *nix that allowed us to see see what our true l/p for nz was and log in, but it only would stay up for like 5 mins, 10 tops.
Tried to chekc out NZ's website but the DOWNLOAD page was broken.. Still didnt find anything that said "Hey guys, we support linux now". So is this something limited ONLY to the nic?
Think about it though.. Is it Office and IE that have problems? Or is it the platform they are running on? From exp Ive used IE5 on Solaris with nary a problem, so I begin to think its the Win9x architecture. I dont have any problems with IE or Office under Windows2000 either, which isnt based of that Win9x setup. Yes, IE still does crash, but much more gracefully and less often then before. So really, I dont think its the apps with the problems, but the OS itself
I really like this idea, and hope it works, with every bone in my body I do. But we have to admit, MS's advertising expenses could probably fund several major companies, so I doubt it will go away so quick. Alas, it will end up first being used by the Ubergeek Slashdot-like crowd, then once it gains a decent sized following MS will sue for a number of lame reasons.. "It says START on it" "Its called Open Window, the word Window, as well as the letters W, I , N , D, O,S are copywritten by Microsoft" etc etc. But what the hell, Im still looking forward to it. Plus they are looking for some artists fot the startup/shutdown/off screens. So thats another plus

"Some companies name a CPO because they have a problem, and some do because they don't have a problem and want to keep doing the right thing," Lamb said. See, as soon as I saw the article I thought to myself "Wow, this is a really good thing, seems like companies really are trying to care about peoples privacy on the net". But, after some speculation and reading the article, it seems like a 50/50 mix of "We want to protect our customers rights" and "We want our customer to THINK we are protecting their rights". Don't most companies have some sort of un-official CPO? I know where I work almost all of us are involved in making sure everyone's privacy is saved. To me this is just a natural reaction, like turning on the coffee pot as soon as I wake up. Face it, just by SAYING XYZ Company hired a new CPO will instantly instill confidence in potential customers, bringing in more revenue. So for now Im going to remain neutral on this subject, till these CPO's can be proven.
If they allow the owners to sell *nix shell accounts. Shell accounts are (somewhat) big business for the teenie bopper crowd these days. Selling *nix shells to run IRC bots... I've been around since they came out in the early 90s and have seen many bad things happen when Erik, the 14 year old, hosts a box at X co-loc, sells a few shells, those people in turn make some bots, takeover a channel, the bots (and server) get attacked taking down the entire pipe. Theres nothing more annoying then you running a 100,000$+ year site and some 14 year old who sells shells for lunch money manages to knock out your entire pipe.. Ive seen it happen so many times.
Weird, because like my earlier post said, I bought one via TIgerDirect and actually received it. Perhaps they had some sort of deal setup with Pine though. *shrugs* all I know is I got mine
The Pine D'music is great, I bought one recently mainly because I have all my MP3s archived on CD anyway, so I might as well. I bought mine from TigerDirect.com (Catalog number P450-1270CD) and it cost me approx. 300$ USD. A quick search over there didnt show it on its website, possibly because its primarially setup for PC systems, but you can Request a catalog and I know its in there. I just tried a few other sites (buy.com, pricepulse.com) and didnt see any listing for it, so I dont know where else you could get it. Good luck!
Not only do scientists know that theres water on mars they also believe there are microbes living beneath the ice. One of the reasons they want to crash the Gal satellite into one of the moons of mars is because it wasnt placed through any cleansing process and MAY still have some bacteria on it that could effect the microbes on Mars if it crashes into it. Theres something to be said when they want to crash a billion dollar hunk of metal to protect a planet, I feel theres info about Mars they are holding out on us.
I heard from a very reliable source that a dual athlon enabled board is coming out later this month to mid April. Believe it was sposed to be AsusTek who is making it.
Am I the only one thinking we'll be seeing the BiAthlon and TriAthlon just like the P2 and P3 came along? ROFL , boy I like the sound of that. I'd wait until the Pentathlon comes along, 5k run, 5k bike ride, 5k swim, Overclock 5 cpus, lose 5 megs of ram.. Or however the hell it goes. All kidding aside though some of these people have brought up some very valid points. What about the microwave output on one of those new 1Ghz+ cpus? People worry about the radiation coming out of a little cellphone, and this is a bit worse then a cellphone. But for me at least, I just dont give a damn about the new cpus coming out OR how much I can overclock it to. Name 1 reason a non-technical user would have for a cpu running at 1Ghz? How bout 500Mhz for that matter? The only reason I could see for owning one is A.)Server B.)Graphic Intensive work and MAYBE C.)COmpiling large programs. Personally, I had my share of fun overclocking cpu's and trying to take the machine to the max. Now, I try to take the software to the max. I recently bought an Athlon 750, and dont plan on buying a new computer for quite awhile again. I was getting along fine before with my p200 as it was. The only reason I upgraded was Im rally getting into some C and VB stuff and wanted the programs to compile a tad faster. Alright, and because Q3 wasnt playing so hot on it either.
The vast majority of end users out there dont need anything above a PII 300 with 64-96MB Ram. Thats it. FOr their AOL, their Outlook Express, their beloved solataire. I'm sorry this has turned out to be a rant all, please forgive me. Theres nothing I get more passionate about then technology and the Average Joe who's going out to buy that top o the line CPU to run his wordpad.

I love the trend these days to finding a global spec for everything. Seems like most companies are getting the picture finally, realizing that instead of trying to OUTDUE each other they try to HELP each other. Sure, I know some are going to profit more then others, but if I went out and decided to make the Judg3-o-pedia I'd feel a little better about knowing that maybe I'll get a few more buyers for it knowing that they will probably be able to synch up with something else they own. The best thing about this I can see IMHO is Palm jumping on, usually when you have the big dogs (or a pack of em) rooting for something it seems to grease the wheels of other companies to join in or get let behind.

Hell, even a normal magnet will lose its magnetism naturally over time. I'd really like some more information on this, if anyone has some please feel free to send me a URL.
