Think about all the government pork for the well connected. That's a form of socialism, only its socialism for the wealthy. I missed the memo, is that what we are calling Fascism these days? Oligarchy is kind of absurd sounding and Fudilisim is so 1200AD. In the end, people should be allowed to define their lack of freedom any way they want (how is that for a brain hurting paradox)...I think "officially-incorporated state sponsored corporatism" sounds better it kid of has that official sounding "we will bomb your village to support your freedom to chose" ring to it.

  7. No Jumping Yet on Has Open Source Jumped the Shark? · · Score: 0

I do think "Jumping the Shark" is the right phrase, it referrers to the original loosing its meaning by becoming generic and contrived. True open source is far from common, at least in terms of a for profit business. The problem is that the corporate world wants some fancy new Jargon to use at the investor meeting - embrace and expand. However if you are looking for a lifetime, integrated solution with a strong relational paradigm and groupwide strategic enabling futures, look no further. OpenSource, or as we like to call it Alternative Source (TM), promises a proactive harmonized opportunity based on a cost competitive re-engineered solution meeting the needs of enterprise with confidence and a logic-based mindset.

No need, Dubya turns his work into the Secretary of Education so she can put a gold star on each page. While this may seem like a childish system it is really the only sort of over site he would agree to. The original plan was to scan everything and place an RFID Gold Star on each page for tracking, that way the Executive Branches work could be preserved, however this led to a few problems. Apparently the Sec of Ed got to busy and turned the work over to an intern. The intern decided to not only put a Gold Star on each page but actually started grading the papers. This lead to the "Inbasion of Iwack Plans" scandal. Dubya's plan, which included a drawing of himself in a jet holding an American flag, was given a "A+ Good Work" stamp. This of course was given back to the Presidnet who decided that if it was a "A+" then there is no way his plan would fail.

In the US our money is no longer tied to any sort of commodity like gold, our currency is tied to ENFORCEMENT. If you want to keep liquid assets safe be sure to use the standard of the biggest military around. History shows that countries that try to tie their currency to some sort of natural resource like coal or oil just end up get invaded. I am not saying this is justified but is rather a matter of fact. The private ownership of land and resources or even fertile young ladies will always stand in second place to firepower. If you want to play it safe be sure you deal with the devil. Guns have a way of guaranteeing that the almighty dollar is accepted at any bank in the world.

I'm all for net neutrality, but did they really believe that their opinions matter? Who are you to say that their opinion doesn't matter? We are talking about a professional group that has interests in keeping big media from exerting anticompetitive practices against them. More so, we are talking about people who want to protect access to public culture from corporate interest groups. These big stars that don't need more exposure so that leads me to believe that they are doing it to protect smaller bands.

Its not like we have musicians talking about health care or the war in Iraq, we have MUSICIANS talking about the distribution of MUSIC. You want to ridicule them for being famous but what you say is nothing more then a personal attack.

If fact, I can not wait until I get to be a kept man because I would gladly give up my career to raise children.

  19. Re:Space travel - no kidding on 10 Technologies MIA · · Score: 1

I will admit that for the most part the Earth is a closed system but I do not see how this matters. The interesting thing about the population of the earth is how it has grown with technology (correlation for sure, causality?). If we were to put people with the technology of 1200AD Europe in a situation where the population was as dense as New York, we would have nothing but death. Advancements in medicine, farming, construction, and just about anything you can think of has allowed us to grow our population. I give as a prime example food. We have gotten to the point where we don't even need dirt anymore (hydroponics). We can even use human waste product as the fertilizer. Who knows but there could be 80 story farms in the future. So there will be a point were we use every bit of matter in our magical atmospheric bubble but we are far more likely to kill ourselves before space travel is a necessity. So I guess you have space, population control, or advancement of technology...at least for the next few hundred years. The interesting bit is when the technology of traveling to space is cheaper then the technology needed to stay on earth.
