    SMB is Server Message Block, and is the protocol used by Windows filesharing. People would use it include anyone who has shared a folder under Windows, and virtually any enterprise using an Windows AD domain.

    As far as I know, there is no workaround, save perhaps installing Windows Services for Unix and using NFS.

    Maybe moreso even because Linux often comes with a raft of server and daemon stuff that Windows doesn't.

    Um, while pretty much all distros have a raft of daemons available, I'd highly recommend you don't install one that installs and starts them on a desktop install. Unless you tell it to, of course. Debian policy is no network listening services on a base install, and that's a good one, IMO.

    This is why Linux has these things called modules. You can compile them, then plug them into a running kernel (and this is the astonishing part) without needing to reboot :P

    Hell, you can even get these modules precompiled for your kernel - just like Windows :P

    It would be easier if the Republicans in Congress didn't filibuster everything to attempt to do that.

    It seems when Republicans call for bipartisanship, it really means "Do everything I say.". I'm hoping that one day, the Speaker really requires them to stand up and talk for 30 hours, instead of simply declare the intent to filibuster. :)

    Actually it makes perfect sense to me.

    I'm English. I therefore don't have the right to carry a firearm. This would probably cause (possibly armed) riots in the streets over in the USA. Me? I'm perfectly happy not carrying one, and knowing that the people I see aren't going to be carrying one.

    Oh, they likely could use my OpenID to track me between sites, assuming that they grant each other access to each others records. However, I can know that my OpenID provider isn't tracking me :)

    The NSA created SeLinux - do you mistrust that too?

    Actually, the N8*0 fully supports the SDHC standard. Those 32GB cards out now? If I REALLY wanted (and had the money they're charging for them), I could pop two of them into my N800, for 64GB of storage. I'm currently using two 4GB sticks at the moment, but when I start running low, I can always (and cheaply) upgrade just the storage.

    I'm also using 2.6, and it seems to be working for me.

    I don't think I'm going to make the WordPress install a provider - it's a blog, it should remain a blog ;) I have some proper software to do the providing :)

    I don't know about other blogs, but WordPress with the OpenID plugin will let you list multiple openid urls that will allow access to your account.
