This method is perfect for things like pool, baseball, chess, etc., but for FPSs, I can't imagine it would be particularly helpful.
The AIs will be responsible for more than just aiming at you and shooting, they have to work in teams, react to things you do, which is more difficult than just getting a number from a distribution and adding it to the perfect one you calculated.
I am on an embedded degree at university in the UK. It isn't likely that we will be wiring together systems, but I'm certain we will plug together something simple to work on. I started out with PHP, and then quickly moved to C, and in addition then also learned C++ (wow, that was a shock!:p) and Java. I'm a little annoyed that they teach everyone with Java, and even simplify it so much that people were never told that Java is an interpreted language! Then again, I can't really expect much from a degree that doesnt have any maths in it! (I actually had to transfer to a different degree so that I could pick every module I wanted to do) I am taking a maths module this semester, I am the only one in the school of computing year 1 that is doing a maths module. All the others I know of picked a class which literally wastes their time - "hill walking" (no actual walking) or "Introduction to the internet".
I have had very little exposure to Assembly, but it is one of the things I am really looking forward to in my course.
I agree.
I am a first year student.
When I arrived at uni and was handed my schedule, I was shocked to find that there was NO maths in all the four years I would be spending here. I have now changed to a customisable course which allows me to build me own degree. I'm basing it on the embedded computer systems degree, but am swapping out rubbish like Access and am replacing it with better classes like a second year maths class.
Its great.
that was the parents point. If it is easy for humans to avoid sleep with no side effects, it would have been introduced to the (and kept in the) gene pool a long time ago. His point being that because we are still sleeping, sleep is important and NOT easily replacable.
What about the space elevator? Teleportation?
Yeah, those arent really there yet, and much less developed than the spacecraft, but airplanes were pretty unrealistic from a locomotive conductors point of view also.
There will be competition for getting into space. Just because they arent around yet doesnt mean there wont be.
I had only heard of the concept of cubicles before I came to the UK. My dad works for Schlumberger in Norway, and he has always had an office and indeed, there are NO cubicles at the office, it is quite disgusting to look through the windows of a company in Edinburgh and see nothing but what I can only describe as grids of workforce. They look almost like a gym transformed into a testing area.
The only problem I can imagine with an office is having to keep the door open all the time, I dont like keeping doors open. I hate knocking on doors, it always seems like I must be interupting something.
I know what you mean, but I really don't have many concerns regarding the whole Google thing. I know that I should though. I wouldn't give the government this information, so why in all reasonable reasoning should a private company with no (or very few) relevant legal obligations to the consumer be able to have it? They aren't forced to give us accurate results, honest results and they aren't obligated to notify us as to any change in their agenda.
It's insane, unreasonable and asinine, but I don't have many issues with Google
Your statement reminds me of a quote I heard a few days ago: "If you are not scared of a human brain being remotely controlled, then it may be that my prototype is working." It's a valid concern, but for now, it is paradoxically, quite unfounded.
Unless somebody here works for Microsoft who has access to inside information... I'm sure there are hundreds of you, all those anonymous cowards are probably Microsoft employees in disguise!
Although obviously offtopic, it is an interesting thought, maybe Slashdot should have a tag for different countries as well as for the States.
I'm probably gonna get modded down for agreeing with an offtopic post... ugh....
Or even, how will this system be able to tell the difference between a phone being answered and a phone ringing? I don't know much about the cell phone network, or how this system will work, but how can it tell if the driver (or passenger) is actually talking on the phone or whether the phone is just ringing? Taking time to get a phone out of a bag while driving and hanging up is just as dangerous as talking on it, if not more so...
"An ergonomic problem of guitars (or any other stringed instrument) is their stress on human fingers when used for more than a few minutes at a time, since significant pressure is required and the fretboard is non-flexible. The resulting condition is labeled "weakness" because it makes the user feel clumsy. This can be alleviated through practice."
Thought maybe that would be a good analogy. Although i agree with the fact that an input device shouldn't require a whole lot of practice or effort to use, most discomfort, I'm sure, can become unnoticeable through excessive use.
Unfortunately Rap and Techno music have ruined the youth. Its popularity and grossly indecent neglect and disinterest in political issues has corrupted the youth!
How does suing them help them? If they can't afford college, how are they going to become something more valuable than a mcdonalds employee? Unfortunately, One can't get very far today without a college education.
We studied the media option. I didn't write about the RIAA specificially. I am in the A2 level of English (I had to in order to take Norwegian. I also did it at the Standard Level, because I didn't want to take Physics or computer science SL). This meant that the exams were structured thusly: paper 1: Comparative commentary on two never before read works while paper 2: An essay on a particular question regarding studied literary or non-literary options.
Paper two therefore asked questions on such things as Global Issues or Media. The media question I answered was somewhere along the lines of "The media creates the youth culture. Do you agree with this? Answer the question using material you studied in class."
A simple question, I could have made up a whole lot of nonsense and claimed they were facts. I did however take it seriously and used real examples, and the essay was in my opinion, relevant to the Slashdot posting.
Shame you replied anonymously, I guess you'll be thinking the worst of me for a while from now.

Not all papers have the names in alphabetical order. e.g. The RSA paper didn't have Aldeman first. I'm glad it did. RSA sounds better than ARS.
you do realise you replied to an anonymous coward?
UK ISP customers could face government broadband TV tax
Who cares? There are too many rich people anyway!

Oh god I cant believe Im saying this. Parent should be modded up. It sheds a lot of common sense onto this battlefield of arguments.
Thats a good angle.

What about volcano insurance? I don't trust the look of those clouds either...
rest assured that I hate doing this: [...] maybe Anonymous Coward's comment [...] feel free to mod me down...
In taking the risk of being tagged offtopic, maybe QuantumG's comment was offtopic...

Whether or not it is redundant doesn't matter, I feel very much at ease about this. It is a step forwards for the people.
