did anyone tape it and encode a realvideo version of it? i planned to see it, but sigh, was out of the house. argh.. also, futurama? anyone tape it and encode it?!?!?!:(
(conjecture, and probably won't happen) by using red hat's ever increasing market share and power with the suits' big companies, they may be able to use their new found powers to try to take the standards, implement them, and steer them into their strategy. (that was from the article paraphrased) the problem with this is that red hat's "strategy" doesn't differ from SuSe's stance, Debian's stance, or any other stance. (maybe slight differences like Debian's commitment to GNU/Linux or something like that) their goal is all the same (disconnect your flame throwers before proceeding): create a high-quality, compatible distribution that might be easier to use/powerful/server-focused/desktop-focused. etc.
this was probably disjointed and discursive, ignore it
slackware has always been like that. especially with glibc 2.0.x etc. slow to move, oh well, anyway, it IS SLACKware... patrick v.... has a very nice position: he doesn't really care all THAT much about market share etc.:P
this is interesting, well on uf, it was definitely (SP!!) hinted that the supposed client was microsoft.
but, if this is true and illiad does recieve a registered letter from their lawyers, he's going to beat this easily...
it was proved in the flynt vs. falwell case (this is from someone's post in segfault.org before i hit the back button and segfault.org was/,'ed to hell) that parodies were protected, and corporations couldn't do much about it...
We really need a legal expert around here. lawyer or law student, whichever
p.s. if microsoft could really do this, i don't know why saturday night live isn't off the air yet. have you noticed their blatant use of real shows' title screens/logos? (like biography!), oh boy...
p.p.s. this is probably a hoax, if it becomes public on the mass media, (and confirmed) this would be another dumb-thing-that-ms-did story. sigh
the last time CmdrTaco posted a story from segfault, something about top 10 slashdot flame comments or something that was on segfault.. boom within minutes:)
well, i have a feeling that rob has unlimited amount of moderation points? well, think about it, he wants people to see his stuff if they have their scores set to 2 etc... i think most of the moderators are smart enough to know that they don't have to up his stuff as he can probably do it himself:P
i'm serious. if you will go around and search for articles that do not interest you, then comment on your disinterest on said article, people will flame your ass! it's simple logic! if it doesn't interest you, leave it alone, and keep it to yourself. speaking of which, if you find slashdot's pick of topics so disinteresting, i suggest you find a different venue of reading material.
because it is 3.141592... (ad naseum) (sp!) so 15:92 == 16:02:) therefore it really should be 4:02 in the afternoon

This is great news, and i hope IBM makes a lot of dough in the Linux server market, but what would REALLY be cool would be a OS/2-style window manager and full ports of its Lotus SmartSuite...
why try to enforce national censorship laws onto an international body? this is silly.
The problem with the first CDA was that it was too vague and that was why it was thrown out, is the ACLU going after the meat of the law or are they using another technicality like that?
This is a very good thing as Corel Draw is one of those "strong" apps. all this corel-linux stuff is really good, but aren't we all hoping that other companies will follow its lead? wordperfect 8 is wonderful, but i'd really love to see lotus smartsuite, quicken 99 and other "strong" windows apps.. i.e. any sign from IBM's Lotus dept about porting?
If you haven't, check it out at WINE HQ It has a library called winelib which is basically a non-microsoft implementation of win32 app stuff. it also has a program loader which lets you run win32 apps under WINE in linux... Please note me on any discrepencies..
already slashdotted... eeeergh..
rob did a really funny parody
unrelated: is our Katz the same as the one who created Dr. Katz on Comedy Central?

can we have an in-depth analysis of microsoft financial future by a slashdot-reader/expert-suit?
